Chapter number 11. I want to look at something tonight that I believe that will help you. And it'll help me. And if there's anything that I need. Down at the church house is help. whether it's from the Lord or from you. A lot of times we get to thinking, if God don't do nothing, won't nothing get done, well, what about if I do something? What about if you do something? What about if we do something? I believe it'd be good always that if we just magnify the Lord, don't you? Anybody in here ever got under conviction because you was magnifying the Lord? No. I've seen people shout in the flesh. I knew they were shouting in the flesh. But they didn't shout long, and other folk got to shouting, and then I could see people getting to weeping. If we're not real careful, we'll get so legalistic, we'll get so legalistic that we don't want to see nobody shout. We think it's just a bunch of foolishness. But I believe you're going to find out when we get to glory, there's going to be a bunch of shouting there. I mean, preachers that's preached about it all these years, and they go home to glory. I mean, if they're not shouting, it's because maybe the Lord must have said, stop that shouting for a minute, I've got to say something. And I don't know. You say, I don't believe it happened like that. You can't prove that it don't. The Bible said that He inhabited the praise of men. He's interested, Brother Josh, in us praising Him. I remember the first time I ever got around where people was shouting in the service, Brother Gary, where people was shouting. I was like Sister Ashley said, I didn't know what was going on. I just, Brother Danny, I just, I sat in the services for a while, I was just like, Marcus, I'm telling you, I didn't know what the world would think. I'd just come out of a life of sin. Most of the time where I heard a bunch of shouting going on, they was a free-for-all. Some of y'all don't even know what I'm talking about. Somebody was moving a wall in the house somewhere. So when I get in church and I'm hearing people shouting and I'm hearing people praising God, I'm going, whoa. And I didn't watch it for just a night or two before I determined in my mind, I like it. Watch old Brother Marvin Clanton stand up there with all those deaf children and do sign language to them. Let them hear the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Every time you get on around Brother Marvin, Brother Marvin, talk about that crucified life. Just die in the self. Die in the self. Because you know why? Because it ain't about me. It ain't about me. You know what I found out? I found out if the devil can talk you in. Are you listening? If the devil can talk you in to being dissatisfied with your Christian life, it's because you've been listening to someone else. If the devil can take your joy away from when you did serve God, when you did worship God, you have been listening to someone else. I want to preach tonight, if I can. I think most of you probably know by now what we're going to do tonight. If you don't, it's time to find out. I ain't tried to prime nothing, Brother Larry, and I ain't going to cut nothing off. Unbelievers don't believe you can worship. Unbelievers don't believe you can worship. Believers don't care what unbelievers think. I got over it. I don't got over it. I don't got over it. We had a big meeting, we had a big meeting back in November, I believe it was this past year, sometime that time frame. And that old man of God comes in April, maybe get one or two more come with him. We might just have another big meeting. Put it on your calendars. Schedule yourself some time off. Plan on being here. I believe the time's getting real close where our opportunities to worship here is about over. I think it is. I think it is. You say, I don't believe all that. I don't care. That don't change how I feel. That's like Brother Joe. Brother Joe told me one day, I don't tonight. I don't tonight. I got just regular socks on tonight. Just regular socks. Them's regular socks. Wait a minute, look at that face back there. Didn't they make regular socks? What are they? Ain't them regular socks? Who said ugly? I'll be expecting you in the altar for sure. You ain't seen what Alan's got on up here. What is him thing? I don't know if they're bow ties or hatchets or what. And Tristan got pelicans. pink pelicans. I guess they wouldn't be ugly. They cool. Excuse me. I went on a trip one time with Brother Joe Chance. Y'all may not believe that. Was in a meeting and I put a pair of socks on Brother Bradley. And they was, wasn't pink pelicans. But they might have been a little bit outgoing like that, I don't know. But Joe looked at me and goes, son, he said, if something happens that we're getting wrecked, he said, don't worry. He said, I'll snatch them socks off of you and throw them in the woods. He said, I don't want them thinking bad things about you. I want to preach on this thought if I can because I believe it's missing so many things missing in the church today. I don't want it to miss here. Brother Dan, I don't want it missing here. Thank y'all for being here tonight. Thank y'all. The peril in the Lord's supper. The peril. The missings. The danger. The problems. What is it? We're going to look at it. If you would stand with me, I'm just going to read a couple of verses, and then I'll let you be seated because we have so many verses. I don't want to linger you in this standing position. because you get tired, but you don't care that I stand. Did you say that? I thought you said that. No, you're OK. He did say that. He said it. 1 Corinthians 11, verse 23, For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread. The same night which he was betrayed, he took bread. Father, I pray that you'd help me. We need you. I need you. I need you, Lord. You know I need you. I cannot. I cannot. I can't do this. I can't preach. I can't even say nothing good to help nobody. God, you've got to do it. And Lord, we believe with all of our heart you can. So now we're just asking you to do that. And we'll thank you, Father, and we'll praise you for what you do and however you do it. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. And amen. Before we ever get to the place where we see that it's such a peril, we've got to look at some things concerning the practice, if you will. The practice. The Bible says right here, in verse 23, he starts it off And he says, For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you. That the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread. In verse 24 he says, And when he had given thanks, in the whole situation, in this process with him and his disciples, And the Lord's Supper, the first thing that they started off doing was they started off by giving thanks. They weren't critical. There's a spirit that goes along with people being critical. It ain't the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does not instruct nor require me nor you to be critical. But the devil would go ahead with that. Yay? Has God said? I believe, Sister Felicia, the devil was trying to let Eve know it's okay if you doubt God. Because I believe his intention all through time has been for the children of God Whether it's the nation of Israel or the bride of Christ. To doubt the Savior. If he can make me, if he can make you doubt what he says, he got you. He got you. Don't jump out there. Don't jump out in this race and think you're fixing to run. He doesn't got you. You're fitting to fall on your face. We see in this thing that when he had given thanks, we see the invocation. An invocation like they'll have an invocation at the beginning of a graduation service. A prayer, if you will. Someone to say, stand up and pray. We just asked Ethan to pray over the offering. I like to listen to people praying. I can't help it. I'm not judging nobody, but if you listen to somebody pray, it'll tell you some things. Now, Jeff prayed over the dinner today at the house. It didn't last long. But he prayed. He prayed. Good job, buddy. Yes, sir. He prayed. He didn't mention none of the missionaries. He didn't even pray for his preacher. He didn't even pray for his grandpa. But he prayed. He said, Lord, bless the food. Amen. Praying. Isn't that something? Isn't that something? That the Lord himself starting out I said, we need to pray, folks. Prayer is important. You try to go through this life without praying, you're going to be in a fix, I'm telling you. I mean, listen, Josiah, I pray for everything. I know it sounds crazy to you. Brother Bradley, I pray that the Lord keep my vehicles running well. That don't sound too strange, does it? I pray that God, while I'm not looking, will make my gas tank go up even though I ain't put no gas in it. I got a bunch of you wanting to shout right now. I got good news for you, gas is going down. Amen. That don't mean get on the road and burn it all up. Well, I saw it does a day right down the road down here, 440 a gallon, and I come by today, it was 425. I mean, the best way I know math, that's coming down. I'm thankful for that. It ain't a lot, but it's better than nothing has math. We see the practice, we see the practice in this time of breaking bread right here, that the Lord brings us. They have a time of prayer. Then they have an invitation. He said right here in verse number 24, he said, take and eat. Take and eat. You know what he's talking to? Everybody there. I've heard so many people say, well, I'll tell you, I don't know about this and I don't know about that. And I believe I've heard Brother Dan just here said, I believe in closed communion and open communion and and private communion and I've heard of having communion for somebody else when they wasn't even there by proxy. Oh yeah. Yeah, don't call. Don't call here if you ain't here. If you ain't here and we're having communion, don't call and say this is so-and-so. Would you get somebody to take communion for me because I can't be there? I'm going to do you just exactly like I do with Joe Jackson. I say, you must be breaking up, brother. I can't hear you. Bye. Y'all done it. Y'all done it. I can see it in your faces. Somebody you've hung up on. Somebody. There's an invitation. He said, take it and eat it. And then there's instructions on how to carry out this practice. He said, verse 24, He said, this do in remembrance of me. That's how you do it. That's how you do it. It's not about me. But John, it's not about my dad. I mean, I love him. He gave 22 years of his life here. He was burdened about a church in this area that people could come to. And thank God now, people still coming to it. Over 40 years later, people still coming to it. Young men sitting on the front row, young ladies supporting them back behind them, encouraging them to shout. Thank you. That's what I meant. That's what I meant. That's what I meant. Thank you. You tell them how to do that. Tell the other two how to do that. And just, you know, them boys, they'll hear it. Shout! And one of them just might, woo! instruction, this due and remembrance of me. Then we have an illustration of this practice where he says, you do to show the Lord's death. That's what we're showing. That's what we're doing. Verse 24, I'll read the whole verse and put it together. Because we see all this stuff. He said, when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, take, eat, this is my body, which is broken. For you, this do in remembrance of me. This do in remembrance of me. We're showing forth the illustration. And you see in verse number 26, he said, for as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you do show the Lord's death. Hey, again, I gave you some encouragement, some inspiration right here. The last of that verse is, till he comes. Till he comes. Thank the Lord. Thank the Lord that we just continue on doing it until Jesus comes. Because I'm glad I'm saved tonight. I want to testify, maybe not out loud, maybe not in a song, but By taking communion, you will know, you will know that I am glad I'm in the family of God and I believe that He died for me one day. We see the practice of how it's carried out. But then here comes the peril. Here comes the, here comes the, the hard part. The trial. Verse 27. I want you to notice, he says, for whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily. Unworthily? You know what we see? We see sometimes there's conduct in apparel. There's something there that identifies the problem that's going on. How many of you can remember, I'm not talking to no girls in the church, but just you boys, maybe all except Bradley. How many of you boys, none of you on the front row, you'll want to admit to this, I don't expect you to raise your hand, but you can just, you know, you can just kind of do it like that. And you know, you're talking with me with your eyes, you know what I'm saying, you can do like that. You guilty of sin, I know you. How many of you boys can remember going to the office when you was in school and not being in good standing with the teacher? Wow, for the whole subject, there's room for lying in this portion too. You're innocent. God bless you. Amen. They say, what's the problem? For you that don't know, I'll tell you. Is anybody over here that knows what I'm talking about? God bless you. You went to the office. You got in trouble. Looks like on this side just meaning you. I don't know. Brother Leroy. I need you, you move to the front rows, I need your help. They want to know why you up here. What is the conduct of this problem? The conduct of this peril. Okay? There's a reason for it. There's a reason. It might not be something you want to tell, and that's okay, I understand that. But there's a reason right here. And the Bible said, whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily. Unworthily. You know, I've had people say, I don't feel like I could take communion because I'm just not worth it. No, no, no, no. Are you saved? Have you been born again? You have been made worthy. The righteousness of Christ has delivered you. There ain't none of this. Hey, I found that a long time ago. There ain't none of this unworthiness. All there is is some people that refuses to get right with God. I refuse to tell them I'm sorry. I refuse, preacher, to let you know that I hurt you behind your back. I refuse to say it. I will not, and thus I will not take communion." There's an irreverence. There's an irreverence. Verse number 27, it says, "...shall be guilty." of the body and the blood of the Lord. There's an irreverence. You know, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. I've met a lot of people that they don't like preachers. They don't like politicians. They don't like people that is in a political power, so to speak. It don't matter. Listen, any politician you know, listen to me. The Bible says that we're commanded, Brother John, to pray for those that have authority over us. Now, Brother Gary, I might not like them, but I still got a commandment for me to pray for them. Now, what would I pray? Now, if you pray for them to die, you ain't praying the right way. You are not praying the right way. You say, well, I don't care. Then you ain't right with God. That just ain't right. That ain't right. That ain't right. You broke fellowship with God a long time ago and do not care. I'm commanded to pray for them which have rule over. Hey, I have a president. There's a president over the United States, whether I voted for him or whether I did not. He's the president of the United States. And I've been, I've been commanded by the word of God to pray for him. And guess what? You have to. Maybe, maybe, just maybe brother David, if all of God's people was to get praying. wonder what would happen. I mean, I just believe it'd go a long ways. I thank you for praying for me. I'll tell you what I'd be willing to do. I'd be willing to sacrifice one of the days that you spend all your prayer time for me and ask you to pray for the president instead. I mean, just if you don't pray for nothing, but God lets him make wise decisions. I mean, I could say a bunch of foolishness right here. But I believe, I believe that we're really lacking in our prayer for the right things. Praying for family. Praying that I would have the right kind of an attitude about being a Christian. Praying for sinners that they get saved. Amen. I'm not, listen, I don't want to see anybody get hurt. I sure don't want to see anybody get cast into hell. I don't want to see anybody get hurt. I'm going to do my dead level best to try not to say nothing to hurt nobody. I can't. I can't. Because if I'm saying something to hurt somebody, I'm not being kind as I'm commanded. Boy, you see, God puts some things out there for us. The Bible puts some things out there for us. the conduct for this peril, but there's a counseling for the peril. If you had a doctor's appointment in the morning and you woke up about seven o'clock and said, well, I'm not sure what I done last night, but I don't feel sick no more. And most of us, I know, I know what most of us do. We have an appointment, we go down there because we get off from work and get paid for it. But could it be that maybe you just took care of yourself over the weekend and got the rest you needed to get? And maybe even took a little home remedy? Maybe took a little, no, took a little apple cider vinegar? I know what you're thinking of her, Sister Diane. I'm on probation. I can't say that word in the church. But wouldn't it be something if I could do something and you could do something to cancel out this peril? Would you do it? Would you do it? If you knew that the trouble that you was in and you wasn't even going to be able to partake of communion, you could do that and cancel out the trouble you was in with God, the peril that you was facing, would you do it? I think you'd be wise to, don't you? Be wise to. Verse 28. The Bible said, but let a man examine his self. Just examine his self. Perils come because of no examination. If we examined ourselves every day, boy, there ain't no way in the world that we'd be out of fellowship with God. We'd be right with the Lord. We'd be walking in the light. It's His in the light. But what has happened is the devil came by where we were and he has filled our mind with so much junk that literally all we've become is critical. That don't work for me. That old preacher is just crazy. That don't work for me. Hey, it worked for you a long time ago. How come it used to work for you? What happened? It's the same message. It's the same God. What happened to you, Brother Darnell? I'm talking about canceling out the peril. Because whether you believe it or not, there's a curse in the peril. In this danger, in this danger zone, you hear me? Verse 29, look at it. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself. Oh, my goodness. What do you mean? I mean this here. I believe, and I believe the Bible's teaching what I'm just saying. I can read on down here in just a little bit. If you want me to, I will. That people that take unworthily of communion is asking for God to take them out. I've seen it happen. I've seen it happen. You say I ain't never seen it. Well, hang around to year 66 and see if you do. Stay faithful to the Lord for them years and see if you do. I've seen it happen to them on more occasions than one. Used to be a woman that used to work up, go to church, a friend of mine's church up in North Georgia. Boy, about every service she wanted to get right with God, get right with God, get right with God. One day she just got real bitter toward the Lord. Are you listening to me? She got real bitter toward the Lord. You know when people get bitter toward the God, they can't get to God. So you know who they get after? Boy, she just got some math, a preacher brother Gary. You probably know who I'm talking about. Used to work in a little truck stop up there at the Dairy Queen I believe it was. Am I right? Boy, she got so mad at that preacher up there. All around town. All around town. All around town. All around town. How bad he was. Bad about the church. There comes a deadline. God will just get sick and tired of all that stuff. They had to pry her out of a car. Gotten wrecked. Cars ain't made out of much anymore. It'd be real good not to tempt the Lord in that area, amen? Not enough to make me want to try it. I'm talking about there's, in the peril, in the peril there's conduct for it. There's a castling of that peril. You can get out of it. You can get out of that trouble. You can get out of that storm. There's a curse in that peril, but there's also confusion in that peril. And the Bible says, not discerning the Lord's body. How did they not know? How did they not know right there? Verse 29 says, And he that eateth and drinketh unworldly, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's. How did they not know? What brought them to that place? We're like, we don't know what we're doing. The only people that I've ever seen act like that was people that just got so intoxicated, they was drunk out of their mind. I don't know. I don't know if that's what the case was here. But I'll be honest with you, I can't figure no other reason why they didn't know that it was the Lord's body Not with right at the beginning all this, the Lord was the one that said, let's pray over it. Man. It's confusion. I've even had people, I know there's folk now, I believe they call them, I'm not trying to preach against nobody what they do because what somebody else does ain't none of my business, I don't care. But there's some people that tell you we don't need the Old Testament no more. And there's nothing to Mark, to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John that we need. Well, if you want to get that close to them, there ain't nothing to ask neither. Yeah. Just, just, why would you buy a Bible? Print off, just print off what you like. I don't know. Some people look at my pictures. You can see what I'm seeing. Amen, brother. Thank you. I'm just talking about they just got so bad. They just got so out of whack. They just got so far from God. They believe, Sister Pearl, they believe anything, anybody. Come along our way. That's why we're living in a world full of Jim Jones. I forget the number. Does anybody remember the number, how many people died in that thing? How many? 900 and something people died because one man, that at one time, listen to me, at one time, you ain't gonna believe this, not from the way he lived, but at one time he had a pastor. And something happened along the way, Brother Jeff, that he said, I ain't going with that old pastor no more. We hate the word old, but some of us has got there and we can't deny it. And most of the young folks is wishing that they got what the old people's got. Might not be money, but might have a few things, might have a brain you never can tell. There's confusion. But the character, the character, the character of this peril. Verse 30, the Bible says this, For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. The character of this type of peril for people taken unworthily The best way I know to say it, without beating around the bush, so you'll understand it real good, is they died. They just died. They just died. This ain't Brother Edwards' theology right here. Are you reading it with me? Is anybody reading it with me? I'm not trying to scare you. I'm just trying to break it down. You know what? You might have heard this a bunch of times. And I can see it on your face how It don't mean nothing to you. But what if somebody was in here tonight that ain't never heard it before? Would you not care about them? If somebody else was in here that ain't never heard how important it is, they might have went to a church where they do it every Sunday morning. And there is church, but Danny, there's churches where they do it every Sunday morning. And the extreme that they go through at this time right here is not just a matter of passing a wafer and passing some juice. But it is so critical, you hit me from Rome now, that if there's absolutely anything left in that glass when that priest is done, He will literally wipe it all out to the edge. Any crumbs from the wafers, he'll wipe it with his fingers out to the very edge of that glass to drink because he's so afraid of losing what he now believes is the literal body and literal blood of Jesus Christ. Well, I've seen it happen. I'm not casting stones at them folks. I'm just telling you, somewhere along the line, somebody pulled one on somebody. I'm not going to be responsible for that, Marcus. You're going to get the truth. You come to church here, you're going to get the truth. I mean, Josiah, you might not like it, but you ain't big as Marcus. I kick you. He, I'm walking over, he's looking at me like this. He knows I'm kidding, because he knows I love him. Am I right? Stand up and tell everybody I love you. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. That would embarrass him. I'm just kidding. You don't do it. But you know I do. You know I do. You know I care about you. You know, I can tell when I get around here, I can tell when he's been hanging with the wrong crowd at school. All I got to do is mention something and just look at him and he'll go... I see him on the road, Brother Gary, walking down the road, and if he sees it's me, before I see it's him, he'll hide in the bushes. He knows I love him. You know it, don't you, Bill? He's a good guy. We talk about the character. But lastly, I want you to notice this, there's a chastening in this peril. Verse 31, the Bible said, but if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. What is that judgment? I don't know. That's God's job. That's what the Lord takes care of. I've met a lot of people that said they're Christians. Hey, I've met a lot of people that said they're Christians. I heard it. I heard it. I didn't see nothing, but I heard it. I think it was, wasn't it you said, you or somebody, might have been Tyler, said y'all bought a coon dog, sight unseen? Was that you? I think it was you. And when he got in there, well, the man said he was a coon dog anyway. He was disappointed in the buyer. He heard one thing, but he seen another. And there's a lot of people, I'm telling you, there's a lot of people in this world, they say they're Christians, and I pray they are. I'm telling you, I do. I mean that. I mean, I pray they are, Brother Josh. But I'm hearing one thing, and I'm seeing another. You said you're condemning them? Nope. Nope. When I hear them say one thing and I see another, it makes me pray for them. Makes me pray for them. Lord, open their eyes and let them see they're in peril. In peril. So tonight, Bojay, if you can go, Brother Ron, go help him if you would, please. And we're gonna take communion, have communion tonight. And while they're getting ready, would you come to the piano and just play something softly, Chris, and step down? I don't know, listen, I don't know one thing If you do need to go to the restroom, please, this is the time to do it. If you do need to go, this is the time to do it. So the children won't be running in and out and distracting. But I don't know what's in this young man's heart. Only he does. I don't know what's in this young lady's heart. Only she does. I don't know what's in Sister Mandy's harder. This is personal. This is very private. But if it goes wrong, man, what a great peril it is. What a circumstance that just didn't go right. So she's going to play softly. If you need to pray, if you need to pray about something, it'd be a good time to do it. That verse said, let a man examine himself. Can I be honest with you? With everything going on like it is, if we're not careful, we're encouraged To make it and make it big. We're encouraged to have a big nest egg. You know what the next thing we're thinking about all the time? Is this working? Making money? Nothing wrong with having money, as long as it's not in the God. Money is not the root of all evil. The Bible said the love of money is what's the root of all evil. So tonight, while we're right here at this place, if you'd like to pray, you'd like to come to the altar and pray, or you might need to go to somebody and just say, hey, you know what, I just wanna, I wanna let you know, I cut up on you a lot, but I hope you've never been offended at anything I've said. If I have offended you, I'm sorry. To be right. To be right. I want to tell the Lord something like that. I don't know. I promise you this. I promise you this. I don't. I'm not. I'm not going to partake unworthily. And I'm not going to not partake opposed to just keeping this sin hoarded up in my heart. I believe that's just as wrong. So while she plays, and you pray, or if you need to come pray, if you already prayed up, if you're ready. But what a good time it'd be. you
