Go, go, go, go to the last one. Go, go, go, Jasper Ray. The Gospel to the people in Australia Scotland, Germany, and England in two letters Costa Rica, Lithuania, and Malaysia New Zealand, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, Swansea, New Zealand Take an airplane to the children of Manoa Riding at the heart of Mount Atacama In the dark of the river Atacama If I go I'll spread the gospel even yet Go, go, go, go, go and spread the gospel I'm going to dismiss the little ones at this time to go to their class with Mrs. Schor. If you're 6 and younger, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1, you can head to class with Mrs. Schor. And the rest of us can take our Bibles and open back up to Hebrews chapter 4. I want to preach on rest worth working for. It's a rest that God wants us to have. When we were coming over this time, coming back, we knew when we left that we were going to have more baggage upon our return. It's just inevitable that we're going to pick up things in six months that we're there. So coming back we had, I think, let me see, kids, help me out. 14 pieces of luggage? No, 15. 15 pieces of luggage weighing 23 kilos or whatever you're allowed, 21 kilos. So about 750 pounds of luggage that we had. You can imagine taking that and us to the airport. Thankfully, the church had a 15 passenger minibus that fit us and our luggage into that, drove up to Chicago here. And then I paid a man to bring his cart over to load all the luggage onto that to take it in for us. And then we stood for about 45 minutes in front of the cube waiting to check our baggage with Aer Lingus. Finally they opened up and weighed them all. Thankfully they weighed the right amount. Got them to them. And then it was just our carry-ons and just us, right? It was so much easier once we'd set the baggage aside. We didn't have the responsibility of the baggage anymore, the weight of carrying it. We didn't have the responsibility of moving it. And then the blessing was when we flew from Chicago to Dublin, Dublin to Edinburgh. And when we got to Edinburgh, we're standing there waiting for our luggage and only five pieces came. And the blessing was, I was thinking, how am I going to get my family and everything and the luggage. Thankfully, we had men there to help, but they were on the outside in the airport part. I was coming through the international terminal where you got to get your luggage ahead of time and get it out. And I was thinking, how are we going to do it? I want the kids' help. It's a lot of muscle power after spending the night on a plane. So it was a blessing. Ten pieces missing. They delivered them the next day to my house. And so that worked out well. And now they're unpacked. And so there's nothing, there's no longer a burden of luggage at all to us. We've kind of entered, you could say, into our eternal rest, kind of. And that's kind of like this passage. This passage is speaking about, there's burdens that we carry before we get saved, that we can set on Christ. and He'll carry them for us. There's burdens after we're saved that yes, we carry, we can set them on Christ, but sometimes there's burdens that they're just still there. But someday in eternity, those burdens are going to be gone. And so those are some of the aspects of the rest that this passage speaks about. When you think about rest, our world desires rest. I read an article this past week. The headline grabbed my attention. Actually, when I was writing this message, I thought back about it, so I went and read it. And it said, the title was Luxury, Worth Every Penny, question mark. And it's written with the BBC. Rebecca Marston wrote it. And she said, asked to define luxury, the head of one of the world's best known luxury goods makers simply looked baffled. He said, I wasn't prepared for that question. I need some time to think about it. She said. He could have said this, once you have met with what you need to survive, you achieve a level of comfort. Beyond that is where you find luxury. The growth of the global luxury market has been astonishing and continues that way from a collective $247 billion five years ago to $338 billion, she says that's 224 billion pounds, last year. A rise of some 36%, according to the market data specialist, Euromonitor. And that growth is impressive. Euromonitor is forecasting spending on luxury goods to be $463 billion by 2019, an increase of 88% in 10 years. Isn't that amazing? Our world is just enamored with things. And they talked about some of those luxury items are purses made by certain companies. And they're not necessarily any better. but they have a name, they're made, fair enough, good quality. But it's just extra money pumped into that just to have that brand. I saw, I was getting my paperwork done this past week, and I was looking at furniture at John Lewis, wasting time with Nelson, he's with me, and they have good quality furniture, most of it priced fairly. I got up to one section, it was close to the lady with the cash register, whatever. And I looked down and I thought I was reading it wrong. To me, to be honest, it looked like an IKEA chair. You know what I'm talking about? With an ottoman and it's metal framed and it's black leather. Price tag, and I don't remember the brand. For the chair, 5,100 pounds. For the ottoman, 1700. I got a picture on my phone afterwards if you want to see this thing. It's worth as much as a vehicle, supposedly. Why? Because people are seeking rest. I guess maybe they think it'll feel better to sit down in that chair. They're seeking satisfaction. It's just not quite there. Sadly, because they're not finding rest, our world is also increasing in suicide. The suicide rate, right now there's an article I read by James Gallagher You said the proportion of men taking their own lives in the UK has reached its highest level for more than a decade. The Office of National Statistics data shows that 19 deaths by suicide for every 100,000 men in 2013. Overall, 6,233 suicides were registered in men and women over the age of 15 in 2013, 4% higher than the previous year. That's a big percentage. And those are the ones that are registered. I read yesterday about a man killed on one of the roads here by Livingston, I think it was. And I don't know how many times you've read that and thought, was that suicide? I think that often when I read that. Somebody hit on the carriageway or on the motorway? Why are they walking out there? And I know there's people that do that and commit suicide. And is that recorded? Not necessarily. And so I would say these statistics are low. But if you do the math on 19 deaths per 100,000 men, and let's say men make half the population of the United Kingdom, or let's say a third even, that is a significant number of men that just took their lives. Why? Because they're not satisfied. They're not finding rest, they're not finding peace, and so they take the easy way out, they think, and end their lives in very sad reality that our world is so lacking in true rest that it brings men to despair. Can I say this morning that the answer to rest is one word, and the answer is what? Jesus. That's it. Jesus is the answer. That's what our world needs. That's what we need this morning. It's Christ. Finding satisfaction in Christ. Matthew 11, 28-30 says, Does that sound like anybody you know? Maybe somebody you've seen in the mirror recently. Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden. Those that are going through life and they've got burdens and they go to sleep at night and they've got burdens. They wake up in the morning and they've got burdens. Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. God works internally. I've had times as a believer, I've experienced this, where I've been so frustrated in my heart, it's like I can't work in there. There's nothing I can do internally to get in my heart and say, okay, feel right about life. I can't. But I praise God as a believer. I have a God that's able to work internally, and I can commit it to Him and say, you know, I don't have this peace in my heart. I don't have joy in my heart. And by God's grace, God can change it. And God has done that for me in times in the past where I'm depressed or discouraged, where God's brought me to peace and joy and comfort. Why? Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me a yoke. We use tractors nowadays. Back then, they would plow with the yoke of oxen. And that yoke was that wood piece that would go between the two oxen and connecting them. And Jesus is saying, take my yoke upon you. Get yoked with me so that we're pulling together. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Why? Because he can carry it. It's nothing for the Lord to take that burden. So this morning, God wants our world to be at rest. God wants us to be at rest. And let's begin with the truth that you can have this rest. You can have this rest. Verse 1 in Hebrews chapter 4, the writer says, Let us therefore fear lest a promise being left us of entering into His rest any of you should seem to come short of it. He's saying anybody can have it, but I want you to be afraid. I want you to be afraid that you're going to miss out on this. You've got to let us therefore fear, lest this promise of entering into His rest, we miss out on it. You know, if I said to you, your favorite activity, and we're going to do that as a church, I guess for Lori it would be, we're going to go to a football match, right? And probably for her over in Glasgow. And we're going to take the bus, and we're going to go to that, and we're going to go do your favorite activity, and I said to you, you know, I really want you to be here, it's important, you've got to be here, but you've got to be here early. And so, I want you to be scared that you're not going to wake up. Set two alarms. Set three alarms. Be properly anxious about it. Why? Because I don't want you to miss out on the blessing of that trip. Paul is saying to us, I want you to be properly anxious about your soul, because I do not want you to miss out on this rest. It's there, it's promised to us. I don't want you to miss it, so I want you to be anxious to have it. The sad thing is, again, in our world, there's so many that they don't care about their soul. They're not anxious about it. They're content with the fact that if they're damned, so what? If their religion is false and it's just giving them temporary peace and it's not real, it's not lasting, so what? And Paul says, no, I don't want you like that. I want you to be anxious about it. I want you to be concerned about the state of your soul. Do you have that desire to enter into this rest? Is there a proper anxiety saying, you know, I've got to have that, what he's speaking about? You can only have this rest by faith. Verse 2 says, for unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them. But the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. He's speaking about a people group that had a message preached to them about entering into rest. But there was no profit. Why? Because they didn't trust God for it. The story he was referring to, it's in your Bible there. Look at chapter 3 and verse 17. I've got to get my Bible here for passage. Hebrews 3 verse 17, it says, But with whom was he grieved forty years? Was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? And to whom swear he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Do you remember the story? Children, do you remember it? It's time to go into the promised land. And the spies go out and they come back and their report is not good. They said there's giants there. There's walled cities that just there's no way to get into these cities. And the Bible says they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land which we have gone to search it is the land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants, and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. And so the message comes and the spies say, the spies say, the giants are huge. There's no way that we can go into this land. And they bring up an evil report. And how do the people respond? Oh no, what are we going to do? How are we going to do this? And unbelief begins to creep in saying, we can't do this. Even though God had said go into this land, even though God had promised this land, the unbelief creeps in. Two of God's servants. And you can turn back to the passage if you'd like to read it. It's in Numbers chapter 14. Stand up. Caleb and Joshua. Who are they? Children? Two of the spies, right? They had seen it. And even though they had seen with their eyes what the other man had seen, their hearts weren't the same. They responded by faith. In verses 6-12, Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes. They tore their clothes. And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land which we pass through to search it is an exceeding good land. If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it us, a land which floweth with milk and honey. Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land. for they are bread for us. Their defense is departed from them, and the Lord is with us, fear them not. But all the congregation bade stone them with stones, and the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel. And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? How long will it be ere they believe me? For all the signs which I have shown among them. This isn't sad. God had brought them out of Egypt. Remember how he brought them out? Signs and wonders, the plagues that have taken place and the death angel and the wealth of Egypt is given to the children of Israel as they come out of the land. They get to the Red Sea. Pharaoh's army is behind them. What does God do? God parts the sea. They walk across on dry land and Pharaoh's army is killed as the water comes back together. Had they seen God's power? Yes, if God said, how long will it be ere they believe me? Why don't they trust? In this morning, are you trusting? Do you believe that Jesus Christ paid the price when He died on the cross for your sins? That He didn't stay dead, but that He rose from the dead? That you can have His gift of everlasting life by faith, just like the Word of God says? that thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Rest comes by faith. Same for us as believers. How often are we properly anxious because we have not trusted God. My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. Thou wilt keep Him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because He trusted in Thee, but because of unbelief, we don't have the rest that God desires us to have. You can only have this rest by faith. You can rest as well because God is work. Verses 3-5 says, For we which have believed do enter into rest As he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, that they shall enter into my rest, although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, and God did rest the seventh day from all his works. Children, when did God rest the seventh day from all his works? At creation. At creation. Thank you, Laura. God created six days. Seventh day he rested. Why did he rest? because there was nothing to do, right? It was finished. You know, can we say this morning that we can rest in Calvary because there's nothing to do? There's not anything this morning for our righteousness that we have to do, that we have to somehow accomplish. The Bible says about Jesus, John 17, verse 4, I have glorified thee on the earth, I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. It's done. Jesus completed it. In fact, on the cross, he said those words, right? As he was getting ready to die, he said, it is finished. Gloriously, that means paid in full. It means that as a sinner, I don't have to go and say, well, Christ paid this much, and I've got to pay this much. I can say Christ paid it all. And so I can enter into the rest that he purchased by his work. Martin Luther, remember the reformer from, was it Germany? Martin Luther struggled with salvation. He thought he had to earn his salvation. He was a Catholic priest. Okay? And he tried to basically be good enough to get saved. And he tried to do all these things and he thought, if he did these things, then God would accept him. And then he came across Psalm 22. He read about the finished work of Christ on the cross. They pierced his hands and his feet. He read the verse, the just shall live by faith. And he understood, you know, it's not good works, it's faith. And he entered into the rest of the finished work of Christ. A lot of believers have that testimony. There was a time when they were trying to be good. They were trying to do all these things. They thought, if I do these things, God will accept me. Instead of, you know what, Christ paid it all in accepting Jesus Christ by faith. People can miss the rest by hardening their heart in unbelief. That's the next point. You can miss this rest by hardening your heart in unbelief. Verses 6 and 7. seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached enter not in, because of what? Unbelief. Again, he limited it to a certain day, saying to David, Today, after so long a time, as it is said, Today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Okay, I want you to think about something. Did Israel miss out on the promised land because they were prone to unbelief? In other words, because naturally it was very difficult for them to trust. And so it's not really their fault. They just kind of, they just didn't trust. No. What did they do? They rejected God's word. They hardened their heart and said, I'm not going to trust God. We can't do that. And they hardened their heart by unbelief. You know, unbelief is willful. It's not, I can't believe, it's I won't believe. It's not that somebody is predispositioned to unbelief. It's that they've chosen to reject the revelation of God. And so, you can miss this rest by hardening your heart. Remember, we're talking about rest. And the storms of life come and it's unsettled. And this person is burdened. All you that labor are heavy laden. And day after day, night after night, it's carrying a burden, carrying a burden, carrying a burden. But remember, Jesus Christ, we talked about it I think on Thursday night, spoke about it just briefly. There's a storm that takes place on a sea. And everything's going crazy in life. But as Lord of creation, what does He say? He just says, peace be still. And I'll say it's at rest. Again, God can do the same thing in your life this morning, but He can't if you harden your heart against Him. And that's it. It's a willful decision to harden. And so there has to be that receptiveness of God's truth. So you can miss it if you harden your heart in unbelief. Also, as we continue on, you can be assured of eternal rest. You can be assured of eternal rest. Verses 8 through 10. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day? There remained therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his." You know, the rest that God had, we could call it a sabbatical. That's where it comes from. That's where the term comes from. It's the Sabbath rest. It's that it was all finished, there's nothing else to do, and so he's resting. Is he going to have to get up from there and go do more work? No, because it's completely done. Now, after man's sin, there was work to do again. And it says, Jesus said, my father worketh hitherto, and I work as well. But then Jesus said, I finished the work that thou gavest me to do, right? And so he's entered into rest again. Someday, as believers, we'll rest eternally. There's burdens in life, even for believers. My dad, I mentioned this morning, my dad lost his wife and three kids in a car wreck. He lost his whole family. And his back was broken in the wreck as well. You know, that's heartache. My dad still, I know to this day, at times, he wonders, you know, if the accident had anything to do with him, because he was driving. But what happened was his left front brake locked. You know, they hit their brakes at the same time, he and Lori, And he jackknifed into the front of a semi-truck. Okay? When that took place, I mean, there was heartache. There was weeping. It's a burden of life. But you know, the Bible tells us in Revelation 21-4, "...And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." Yes, in life still, even though we accept Christ as our Savior, there's still heartache. But by God's grace, my dad knew the peace of God, the joy that God gives. But in eternity, that debt is going to be set aside completely. There's no sorrow in eternity. There's no sickness in eternity. There's no weeping in eternity. There's no relationship breakdowns in eternity. Everything's perfect. That's the rest that is future. That's the rest that we anticipate. But that rest only comes to those that by faith accept Jesus Christ and enter into rest now in Christ. So, what can we do about it? Say this morning, you look at it and say, you know, I don't have that rest. I am what the Bible spoke about. I am those that are burdened and heavy laden. How do I get this rest? Well, Paul says, or the author of Hebrews says in verse 11, let us labor therefore to enter into that rest. Let's any man fall after the same example of unbelief. He's saying, and that's why I titled this rest worth working for. Let us labor to enter into this. Let's do something about it. Let's not just go through life saying my life's in turmoil and I don't have this rest and not do anything to get it. Paul said, let's do something. So what does he do? Or what does he say to do? First of all, work at understanding God's Word. Verse 12. says, for the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the divining asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Kids, do you like swords? My children like swords. In fact, Mr. Alec made a sword, a wood sword, for my kids. I saw it this morning and still have it. I think it made it to church today, maybe. Okay? But a two-edged sword is sharp on both sides. I mean, if you come at me with a... You've got a two-edged sword. I'm running the other way. Why? Because it cuts both ways, right? And God says, my word is like that. It's a two-edged sword. I mean, it just pierces through the biting thunder of soul and spirit. Things that we think are inseparable. Of the joints and marrow. It's a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. God's word is the searchlight that sees into us. You know what? Someone could have cancer and not want to know it. And so they refuse an MRI. They refuse a CT scan. But if they'll acknowledge it and say, I'm scared I might have cancer, they have the scan. The scan might show that they don't have cancer. But if it shows that they do have cancer, a right diagnosis leads to right remedies. And so the Word of God this morning, it's not something we should be afraid of, it's something we should embrace and say, it shows me what is wrong. It shows me how to change to what is right. You know, a drunkard, I was awakened last night around one o'clock and I looked out because I heard a lot of noise, people coming out of the pub. They're coming out, of course, they're intoxicated. You know, I look at that and say, they worked really hard to get to that state. They worked all week long saving money so that they could blow it on the weekend, putting it into alcohol. And they put all this money into alcohol, then they drink all this alcohol and it stupefies them. And now they've achieved the rest that they're seeking to get from the bottle. And they've got the rest and then they vomit. Then they have a hangover. And then they wake up and say, I'm going to do it again. Could we say that they're working really hard to get the rest that they are trying to get out of the bottle? Yes. Wouldn't it be better for them to work as hard to get into the Word of God to see what it says, to see how it would change their life so that they could get real rest? Why are we so beyond the day of somebody breaking a Bible and actually spending time searching out what it says because they're so concerned about their soul? You know, the answer, that's the answer. Paul says, you want this rest? Let the Word of God into your heart. See what it says. Then he says, trust God's ability to make your life right from the inside out. Verse 13 says, neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight, but all things are naked and open unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. It's saying that as God, creator, designer of the universe, he doesn't wonder this morning, what's wrong in my life that's robbing me of the rest that I need to have. He doesn't wonder this morning, what's wrong in your life that's robbing you from the rest that God desires to have. Anytime that the rest is not there, God knows what it is. He knows. There's nothing that He doesn't observe. All things are naked and open unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do it. It just means God can see everything. Nothing is hidden. We think, cover it up. We can't cover it up. It's there in the eyesight of a holy God. And so we can trust in that. You might feel like, but I don't know how to get rid of this burden. Well, God does. Because God sees it from the inside out. And then grab hold of God's truth with conviction. Verse 14, seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Because we believe this book and what Jesus Christ did, let's grab hold. With tenacity, let's grab hold of Christ and let's have conviction about it. James put it this way, James 2.18, said, Yeah, man may say, thou hast faith, and I have works. Show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God, thou doest well. The devils also believe and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead." He's saying that's a vain faith. Somebody says, oh, I believe in God, head knowledge. Oh, I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for me. But their lifestyle is drunkenness, their lifestyle is immorality, their lifestyle is lying, their lifestyle is coveting, materialism, and it's everything contrary to Christ. Do they really believe? And the answer is no. They're not holding fast to their profession. They're professing, but they're not holding onto it with any tenacity. And Paul says, good, if you want this, it's worth having, grab onto it. Let's have a testimony of walking with the Lord. So grab a hold of God's truth with conviction. And then understand that Jesus knows what you're going through. Verse 15. For we have not in high priest, which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. The author of Hebrews is saying, don't think this morning that God doesn't understand what you're going through. You could say it this way. It says it negatively in our passage, but it could say it this way. We have a high priest who is touched with the feeling of our impermanence. Because he's in all points tempted like as we are to get without sin. Somebody could feel like, Christ has never gone through this. Yes, he has. Does Jesus know what it's like to lose a loved one? I believe he does, you know why? Last time Joseph is mentioned, Jesus is 12 years old. Why wasn't Joseph at the cross? Why did Jesus commit Mary to John the Beloved? Remember at the cross he said, woman behold thy son, son behold thy mother? I believe it's because Joseph had passed away. The Bible doesn't tell us that. But he's in all points tempted like us, we are yet without sin. He lost a dear friend, remember Lazarus? Remember the verse, the shortest verse in the Bible is Jesus wept. He knows what it is to go through that grief and he understands his point. So realize this, Jesus knows what you're going through. He's been there, but he's gone through it with victory. Though he experienced that trial, he went through it with victory. So what? He can take you through it with victory. We have a friend, Major Ron Brooks. He's probably upper 80s now. Alec, you've met him. The first time, well, after I met you, I came back with a man who knocked on your door. That's Major Ron Brooks. You'll see his picture tonight if you're able to come. We saw him when we were in the States. But he was a major during the Vietnam conflict. He flew a helicopter pilot. He has awesome stories. But one story my mom told me about him is that he was training his men. And he was having them time to run up a hill and do something and come back down or doing an activity like that. And they weren't making his time. He said, no, you've got to do it quicker. You've got to do it. And finally they said, look, it can't be done that quick. He said, OK, here, take the stopwatch. And then he did it that quickly and beat the time and said, now you go. Why? Because he's been there. He's done it victoriously, showing them that they can have victory as well. You know, has Christ shown us that we can have victory? Yes. He's the Prince of Peace. He can, this morning, meet our needs. Why? Because He's experienced it, no matter what it is that we face. Then lastly, how can we have this? Go boldly to God for His help, to take the rest which He has given you. Verse 16. He's saying, because of this, he said, let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. He's saying, because of this, let's go to God with faith. Let's trust him. Nelson is very good at asking questions to do something. Nelson will not say this. He will not come to me and say, Dad, you probably don't want me to play the iPad right now. That's OK. I didn't think you would, and walk away. That's not Nelson. Nelson goes, Dad, can I play the iPad? Yes. What's he anticipating? He's anticipating affirmative. He's saying, you know what? Dad, can I do this? Yes. He's not saying, I don't think you're, well, it's OK. You know, God does not want us to come to Him this morning saying, God, I don't think you want to meet my needs. It's OK. I understand. God wants us to come this morning and say, you know what? I need that rest. I'm not at rest. If I'm really honest, I'm one that's burdened. I'm heavy laden. But you promised I will give you rest. God, I come for that rest today. And I thank you for giving it to me. Let us go boldly into the throne of grace, confidently, expecting this morning the affirmative from God. You know, will things satisfy? I didn't even want that chair. I bought a chair this week for 50 pounds. It's a leather tub chair. You know what? Honestly, if I had the leather tub chair here in that chair from John Lewis, I want this chair. It doesn't matter to me what this is worth. I like this chair better. That's how goofy our world is. 6,000 pounds here, 50 pounds here. I'd prefer this. But our world thinks, ah, if I get this, if I get this, if I get this, if I get this, it'll satisfy, it'll bring comfort, it'll bring peace. And they're building bigger houses and getting better things, and it doesn't get them anywhere as far as their soul. No peace. Why? Because there's no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. Sadly, some are so burdened with life, not finding rest, that they're taking their life. It's heartbreaking. Why? Because they can have this rest. This morning, there's no reason why you can't have this rest. God's not said to you, look, it's more difficult for you than for anybody else. All it is, is faith. It's just saying to God, first of all, if you're not saved, God, I need the rest of salvation. I need to enter into Christ. I need Christ in me. Right? As believers, it's us saying, you know, there's things in my life, if I let into my life, they're going to unsettle me. Sin. And so, He that knows my heart, knows everything that there is there, has the Word of God that is able to speak to my heart, He can get that sin out of my life so I can have peace in life. We know this morning our confidence is eternally to the believer there's rest. We could have the worst life, it could be the most miserable, the most whatever, but by God's grace when we die, we've got eternal rest in Christ. Wonderful. Annie Johnson Flint, she was severely crippled by arthritis. In her 20s, she was basically bedridden and had to write with a piece of chalk to write her hymns that she's written. And she wrote the hymn, God is not promised, skies always blue, flowers strewn pathways all our lives through. But he has promised strength for the day, grace for our labor, light for the way. But Annie Johnson Flint, in eternity, she's jumping over fences. Because she's got every aspect of a healthy life back, because that's not eternity. That's precious. It's hard to watch somebody pass away, but harder still to know they've gone into the fires of hell, if they're not saved. We had a good friend, you guys know him, Jeff Smith, passed away of a brain tumor last year. But to the very end, Jeff demonstrated the grace of God to be able to smile even on his deathbed when I spoke to him about the goodness of God. Just hours before he died, 36 hours before he died, he still smiled after I got done praying and asking God to reveal himself to Jeff in a mighty way. That's real. And Jeff, you know, you can say at a situation like that, praise God he's passed away. because now it's all over. You can't say that about an unbeliever because really it's just beginning. Eternal death has just started. But those that are saved, they enter into the rest of God. May God help us to have that rest this morning. Let's pray. Father, we're thankful this morning for the Word of God. And Father, I pray, make it clear to our hearts, I pray for anybody that would have heard this message this morning. that they would know the peace that has to understand it. That they would know the Prince of Peace. And Father, if somebody's lost, they're not saved, I pray they'd humble their heart and just bow the knee in my faith. Take God, take you at your word. And Father, accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and experience peace, maybe for the first time ever in their life. Father, as believers, we certainly can mess up the peace that we have through sin. Help us to realize You see everything. It's not hidden from You. Father, You know why we don't have peace today. Help us to trust You and deal with sin. Help us to trust You and the promises of Your Word. And Father, we have peace. And Father, we anticipate someday that peace eternally. We thank You for Your grace to us. Pray You bless us. We conclude with a hymn now. It's in Christ's name we pray. Amen. I'd like to sing, and we'll have to look it up, Jesus, I am resting, resting in the joy of what Thou art.
