When some of the Jews try to stir up an intense rivalry between Jesus and John the Baptist, John is having none of it. Not only is he not concerned that Jesus has eclipsed him in prominence, that's what he was living for in the first place. He recognizes the surpassing greatness of Jesus and he finds his contentment and joy in making much of him.
