Thoughts on Luke. Luke chapter 10 and verse 16. The divide. Now this is a very solemn word. Here we have it. The divide. Luke 10 verse 16. I believe this to be the abiding principle that comes out of this sending out of the 70 or the 72. It's talking about, Jesus is talking about preaching the gospel. He who listens to the preacher preaching the gospel listens to Christ. That is the principle. Of course, there's a presupposition here that the couple who are going out together are really preaching the gospel. The application today would be that I am really preaching the gospel now, according to the scriptures. But he who or she who listens to the preacher, really preaching the gospel, so says Christ, is listening to Christ himself. And on the other hand, he who, he or she who rejects the preacher, preaching the gospel, is actually rejecting not the preacher, not even in a sense the gospel, but above all, he or she is rejecting Christ. Listening to Christ, Christ takes it further. Listening to me, he says, is actually listening to God. Rejecting me, he says, is in fact rejecting God himself. Just go over there. There's the divide. Go over that again. He or she or whoever it is, is listening to the gospel really preached. It's not simply listening to the preacher or the testifier or the witness, but it's actually listening to Christ, the one who turns his back or her back upon the gospel, upon the preacher, upon the testifier, the witness, the proclaimer of the gospel, the real gospel, of course. The one who does that is not just simply rejecting the witness, rejecting the truth even, but above all rejecting the Christ himself. And of course, taking it further, the one who receives the Christ, who believes the gospel, who believes the preaching, who trusts Christ, who calls upon Christ, who looks to Christ, is in fact coming to God himself. The contrary is also true. The one who rejects the Christ, rejects the gospel, is rejecting God himself. There is no middle way. It is either or. It's broad or narrow. It's in Christ or in Adam. It's regenerate or unregenerate and so on and so on. Now, of course, we're not just talking about listening to the gospel. We're talking about hearing the gospel. We're talking about obeying the gospel. Let me be specific. Acts 16 verse 31. What must I do to be saved? Acts 16 verse 30. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. You've heard it. Have you listened to it? Have you really heard it? Have you obeyed it? Are you believing on the Lord Jesus Christ? Not believing about him merely? But are you really trusting Him? Do you believe and so on? God commands all men everywhere to repent. You've heard it. Are you listening? Are you rejecting it? Will you turn from your sin and turn to Christ and be saved? Will you receive Him? You're received by God himself and receiving God himself. Do you believe? Are you trusting Christ now? Are you repenting, looking to Jesus alone? Well, I've asked the question. There's a great divide. Those who believe and those who reject. Which are you?
