The confidence of our hope

Thursday morning I found out that I was up for Tag team preaching this Sunday. After a quick prayer I began to think about a recent study I had done on grace and mercy. Very specifically here in 2 John and I began to construct the body for the sermon. That night before I went to work I was checking out Facebook and saw that someone had posted those verses in Proverbs. Immediately they caught my eye and I did a quick word study to learn a little about the verses and liked what I saw. I didn't now that 5 hours later those verses would be applied directly to me when I was robbed at gun point.
Understanding that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, we can see how these 3 verses in 2 John are something of a continuance or a spelling out of how God is the confidence of our hope. It is not just a broad statement. God is speaking to us specifically about what He can do for us. He will prove His sincerity with His staying power to help us be resolved in following in Him. The serenity that flows to us is willed with a confidence that we can truly rest on God because even that has it's source in God.
