Good morning, I guess it's good afternoon now. Today is the 7th of February, it's Friday, and Mark's been reading through the book of Acts. Today he is going to be reading through the 5th chapter of Acts. This is the account of Ananias and Sapphira lying to the Holy Spirit, saying that they sold a piece of land for a certain amount but yet they kept back part of it for themselves the price of land for themselves and then acted like they were giving it all to God and so I have a question for people today who lie to the Holy Spirit and say that they are proclaiming the whole counsel of God and they're keeping out huge bodies of scripture regarding election and predestination to the sovereignty of God and salvation. Isn't that just as bad as Ananias and Sapphira lying to the Holy Spirit? Just asking a question. Well, both Ananias and Sapphira were killed over the matter. Well, there was also many signs and wonders done by the apostles and it says and believers were the more added to the Lord multitudes both of men and women says even if the shadow of Peter passing by fall on them they would be healed and so on and people that were vexed with unclean spirits well this didn't make the high priest and the Sadducees very happy they were filled with indignation and they put their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison but the angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them forth told them to go stand and speak in the temple well when the officers didn't find them in prison they were pretty upset and so They sent him before the council and told him, we told you not to teach in this name and Peter said we ought to obey God rather than man. And he gave them a little sermonette right there. D'Amelio tried to come to their defense. They beat the apostles and companions, they should not speak in the name of Jesus and let them go. And it says they cease not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. So I'm going to turn this over to Mark and have him read this whole chapter for you. Sometimes we ought to obey God rather than man. I had an instance like that when I was told by my man I had to do something in regards to my job. I was going to have to start placing children with homosexuals and license homosexual foster parents and I knew that that was against the God and I refused to do it so I got fired. I'm going to read that book after I read this book. It's called Phillips vs. the State of Missouri and it gives an account of that. Okay, I'm going to turn this over to Mark. But a certain man named Ananias, with his fire and his wife, sold the possession and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, brought a certain part and laid it at the apostle's feet. Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled that heart to lie in the Holy Ghost and to keep part of the price of the land? While as it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not thine own power? I hast thou conceived this thing, and thou art not light unto men, but unto God. And I, as hearing these words, fell down, and gave up the ghost. A great fear came all of them. I have heard these things. A young man arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. It was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me, whether ye sold the land for so much? She said, Yea, for so much. Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost. And the young men came in, and found her dead, and carried her forth, and buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. And the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people. They were all with one accord on Solomon's porch. The rest of the snowmen joined themselves to them, and the people magnified them. Believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women. And so much as they brought forth the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and then which were vexed with unclean spirits, and they were healed, every one. Then the high priest rose up, and all that were with him, which is the sect of Sadducees, were filled with indignation, and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. The angel of the Lord opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life and when they heard that they entered into the temple early in the morning and taught the high priest came and they that were with him and called the counts together and all the senate of the children of israel and sends the prison to have them bought but when the officers came and brought them not in the prison they returned and sold told saying the prison truly found we shut with all safety with the keepers standing before the doors. When we had opened, we found no man within. Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priest heard these things, they doubted them whereinto this would grow. But there came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people Then went the captain with the officers and brought them without violence. They feared the people lest they should have been stoned. And when they had brought them in, they set them before counsel. And the high priest asked them, saying, Did not we straightly command you that you should not teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you slew and hanged on a tree. Unto him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a prince and a savior, for to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. We are all his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Ghost whom God hath given to them that obey him. When they heard that, they were cut to the heart and took counsel to slay them. Then stood there upon one of the counts, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had a reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space. Then stood there one upon one, and said to them, You men of Israel, take heed of yourselves. What you intend to do is touching this man. For a whore these days rose up through this, boasting himself to be somebody. whom a number of men, about 4,400, joined themselves, he was slain. And all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered and brought to Nod. After this man rose up, Judas of Galilee, in the days of his taxing, and drew away much people after him, he also perished. And all, even as many as obeyed him, were Now I say unto you, refrain from these men, and let them alone. For this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to now. But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it, lest happily be found even to fight against God. And to him they agreed, and when they called the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak of the name of Jesus, and let them go. Departed from the presence of the council rejoicing they were kind of worried to separate shape or his name Daily in the temple in every house they cease not to teach and priests the gospel Jesus Well, I would just say this to all those who are teaching the Arminian free will gospel. You're lying against the Holy Spirit when you do that. Hope you all have a blessed day today.
