2nd LCF Ch. 2, Para 2 (2)
Series John Tobler, Doctrine of God
Paragraph two. God, having all life, glory, goodness, blessedness in and of himself, is alone in and unto himself all sufficient, not standing in need of any creature which he has made, nor deriving any glory from them, but only manifesting his glory in, by, unto, and upon them. He is the alone fountain of all being, of whom, through whom, and to whom are all things. and he has most sovereign dominion over all creatures, to do by them, for them, or upon them, whatsoever himself pleases. So we are building a foundation here, a foundation in systematic theology, an important foundation. Scripture was our first one, which we laid, and laid firmly, and now we're on to the doctrine of God, and it's important How this foundation is laid because everything that comes after will be affected by it if you're off here You're gonna see yourself off in several other places going forward. So scripture gives us a hermeneutic for how to understand itself. And that's what we're building here. We're not trying to strip meaning. We're not even trying to say you can't say or speak other words of scripture that talk about God being affected. Okay? That's not what we're trying to do here. All right? So Job says, whether this creature sins or does well, God is not affected, not augmented. It's not changed for good or ill, because to do such would be for him to cease to be God. That's essentially what it comes down to.
