Hello again and welcome to the
program. In chapter two, Paul says, but even after that we
had suffered before and were shamefully entreated, as you
know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you
the gospel of God with much contention. Paul faced a lot of contention,
but he never quit. Do you face the temptation to
quit sometime? If you do, you're in good company.
Jeremiah 20, in verse 9, we read, Then I said, that is, Jeremiah
said, I will not make mention of him nor speak any more in
his name. But his word was in my heart
as a burning fire shot up in my bones, and I was weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay. Elijah felt like quitting after
that tremendous victory on the mountain. Jezebel sent messengers
and said she was going to have him killed, and we read in 1
Kings 19, verses 2 through 4, that he arose and went for his
life, and came and sat down under a juniper tree, and he requested
for himself that he might die. He said, it is enough, O Lord,
take away my life. Well, I think he was discouraged
because he was all alone. There was a hundred useless prophets
hiding in a cave. I think they had an effect on
him as well. Moses, he got discouraged. He
said in Numbers 11, 15, If thou dealest thus with me, he said
to the Lord, Kill me, I pray thee. If I have found favor in
thy sight, let me not see my wretchedness. Then Demas, he
quit. 2 Timothy 4, 10, Paul said, Demas
has forsaken me, having loved this present world. John, Mark
quit. In Acts 13, 13, we read John
departing from them, returned. to Jerusalem. James said in James
chapter 1 and verse 12, Blessed is the man that endureth temptation,
for when he is tried he shall receive the crown of life which
the Lord has promised to them that love him. James 5 11 also
says, Behold, we count them happy which endure. In Acts 4 and 13
we read, Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and
perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, They marveled
and they took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus.
In Acts 18, 26, we read he, that is a certain Jew named Apollos,
he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. Paul said in Ephesians
8, 18, praying that utterance may be given unto me, that I
may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel
for which I am an ambassador in bonds, that therein I may
speak boldly as I ought to speak. There's a lot in the Bible about
being bold. Proverbs 28, 1, the righteous
are bold as a lion. Acts 13, 46, Paul and Barnabas
wax bold. 2 Corinthians 10.1 I, Paul, am
bold toward you. 2 Corinthians 11.21 I am bold. Philippians 4.11 And many of
the brethren are much more bold to speak the word. Acts 4.29
With all boldness that I may speak thy word. Acts 4.31, they
spake the word of God with boldness. 2 Corinthians 7.4, great is my
boldness of speech towards you. Acts 4.13, now when they saw
the boldness of Peter and John. Philippians 1.20, in nothing
I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness as always, so now
also Christ shall be magnified. We would do well to ask ourselves,
if God was writing about us, would he put us in the category
with John, Mark, or Demas, or would he put us in the category
with Paul the Apostle?
