We want to give an overview to our new course, Introduction to Bible Geography. It is a course that is geared for beginning Bible students and older ones. It covers the major geographical features and places mentioned in the Bible. It is intended to help the student understand the importance of Bible geography and to whet his appetite to begin to take it seriously in his daily Bible study. In my experience, most Bible believers do not understand the importance of Bible geography and know very little about it. I want to change that. I have a passion to change that because of the personal benefit I have gotten from Bible geography. The study of geography is essential for a proper understanding of the Bible because it is an historical book. It describes events that took place in the land of Israel and the surrounding territory. And the better the student understands the geography, the better he can understand the Bible. Bible geography is divine revelation. The land of Israel is God's classroom. It is the land that He chose for the outworking of His eternal plan. It is the land that He fashioned for that purpose, for that reason. The land of Israel is called the pleasant land, Daniel 8, 9. The glorious land, Daniel 11, 16. The glory of all lands, Ezekiel 20, verse 6. When God gave that land to Israel, it flowed with milk and honey. It was a paradise. And it will again be a paradise in the future. for because of Israel's sin, the land laid under judgment for almost 2,000 years. And even though Israel is back, and Israel today has done many things to plant forests and to bring water into the land and to develop the agriculture, The land is nothing like it was when God gave it to Israel, and it is nothing like it will be when Christ returns. Israel is a small country, but it has every type of topology. mountains and hills, plains, forests, savannas, deserts, rich pasture land, barren salt flats, rivers and lakes. It borders on the west side on the Mediterranean Sea, a large ocean. Everywhere you look in Israel and the surrounding territories, there are lessons about God. Every mile has its lesson. In many places, every yard has its lesson. The land's name Israel means power with God. Moriah is where Abraham learned that God is Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah who will provide. Rephidim in Sinai is where Moses learned that God is Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah my banner. Ophrah is where Gideon learned that God is Jehovah Shalom, God our peace. Bethel is where Jacob had the vision of the ladder to heaven, and named the place the house of God. Shechem is where Jacob called God Elie, Lehi, Israel, the God of the house of Israel. Ramah is where Hannah named her son Samuel. God has heard. Jerusalem is the city of our God, the city of the great king, Psalm 48. All the infinite lessons just pertaining to Jerusalem and the events that have happened there. Penuel is where Jacob wrestled with God and saw God face to face. Mehadneim, two troops. It's where Jacob learned that the angels of God camped by the people of God in Genesis 32. And we can go place to place across Israel and see and be reminded of the lessons, the powerful spiritual lessons that are there. Lessons about God, lessons for our Christian living, lessons for the past, the present, and the future are there. To benefit from Bible geography, the student has to ask questions such as, where is the author as he's writing? Where are the recipients located? If the passage describes an event, where does it take place? What was the terrain like? What topographical features made this region unique? What was the weather like? How far was this place from other places mentioned in the passage? What were the travel routes? What size was this town or city? What was the layout? What was the location known for? Those are the types of questions we have to ask and answer to get a great benefit from Bible geography. And so the Course consists of series of PowerPoints divided into three parts, which we have video recorded and which will be online and be available for downloading and viewing. And then it has a PDF that is for the student to print out or to put on an iPad or iPhone or whatever, a laptop, which is the student's classroom work and to take home to be able to study this course. And then there is a syllabus, course syllabus, to guide the teacher and the student through the course and the grading of it. It has an introduction to Bible geography. These are all PDFs that are printed out or available with the course online. This one introduction has the review questions. to prepare the student for the test. We have the final test. There's only one test with this course. It's a short course. And then we have the score sheet and the answers to the test. All this material is available with the course. And then we wanted to mention that the course is keyed to the new Moody Atlas of the Bible. And it is important for the student, if at all possible, to obtain this atlas and to use it, start using it every day. But you will see that as we go through the PowerPoints that this course, we refer to this atlas repeatedly through the course. We trust this will be a blessing to many of God's people.
