Evidence for Faith
Series The Gospel of John
Jesus' claim to be the light of the world and the divine Son of God, is established by two witnesses: Jesus Himself, and God the Father. Jesus testifies to the truth of His identity by His miracles and by His teaching. God the Father testifies to the truth of Jesus' identity by the transfiguration, by the his baptism, but especially by his word. All the prophets testify to the identity of Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah.
Fulfilled prophecy is an incredible witness to the truth of Scripture and, thereby, the truth of Jesus identity as Savior.
All of Scripture, Old and New Testaments center of on the saving work of Jesus Christ. This is the great reversal of history, fallen man is redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God.
The truth of Jesus' identity is not based on blind faith but upon verifiable evidence — His miracles, authoritative teaching, and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies that point unmistakably to Him as the Messiah.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, the Pharisees and many today fail to recognize Jesus. Idolatry and self-defined expectations prevent them from seeing Jesus as a suffering servant and atoning sacrifice f God.
Belief in Jesus is not merely intellectual assent but a life-and-death decision that requires a transformed heart to receive the truth, enabling believers to see, hear, and follow the one who is from above and not of this world.
Why did the Pharisees miss their Messiah: Psalm 135:16-18 They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them.
