Today we continue our series in 1 John. This is our second sermon in 1 John, and I'm going to emphasize verses 5, actually verse, mainly verse 5, but I'm going to read the entire chapter because it's 10 verses long, and we want to get the, always have the context. So listen to the very Word of God. Scripture says, that which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled concerning the word of life. The life was manifested, and we have seen and bear witness and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us. That which we have seen and heard we declare to you that you also may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. This is the message which we have heard from Him and declared to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us. May God add his blessing to the reading and the hearing of his absolutely perfect and errant infallible authoritative word. I remember when I was a kid, I would, y'all know I like to read, and I would open a book and I would read those very exciting words that started out with, started me out on so many mental adventures, those words, once upon a time. and they were often words that I took as a message to me personally, a message that opened the door of my mind and grabbed my boyish imagination and took me into an exciting world of make-believe and action and high adventure. I was always flying somewhere and slaying dragons and in my hubris I was being a hero, of course, all little boys are. those words would take me to a dream world where nothing that I could imagine was impossible. But it was just that. It was a dream world, a fantasy, a world of make-believe, and all too soon I always had to turn to that last page, and you turn to that last page, and I used to
