Welcome to Read Through the Bible
in a Year, December 3rd. Today's reading is 1 John chapter
3, Daniel chapter 3, and Proverbs chapter 4. So let's get started
in 1 John chapter 3. Behold, what manner of love the
Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the
sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth us
not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons
of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know
that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall
see him as he is. And every man that hath this
hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Whosoever
committeth sin transgresseth also the law, for sin is the
transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested
to take away our sins, and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth
in him sinneth not. Whosoever sinneth hath not seen
him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive
you. He that doeth righteousness is
righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of
the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning, for this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works
of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth
not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him, and he cannot
sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are
manifest, and the children of the devil. Whosoever doeth not
righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his
brother. For this is the message that
ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew ye him? Because
his own works were evil, And his brother's righteous. Marvel
not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have
passed from death unto life, Because we love the brethren.
He that loveth not his brother, abideth in death. Whosoever hateth
his brother is a murderer, And ye know that no murderer hath
eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of
God, because he lay down his life for us, and we ought to
lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good,
and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of
compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little
children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but
in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are
of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if
our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth
all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn
us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we
ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and
do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His
commandment, that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus
Christ, and love one another. as he gave us commandment. And
he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth
in us by the Spirit which he hath given us. This concludes
the reading of 1 John chapter 3. Daniel chapter 3. Nebuchadnezzar the king made
an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the
breadth thereof six cubits, and he set it up in the plain of
Jura, in the province of Babylon. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king
sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains,
the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and
all the rulers of the provinces. to come to the dedication of
the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. Then the
princes, the governors and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the
counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces,
were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. And they stood before the
image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then an herald cried
aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp,
sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall
down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king
has set up. and whoso falleth not down, and
worshipeth, shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning
fiery furnace. Therefore at that time When all
the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut,
psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations,
and the languages fell down and worshipped the golden image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. Wherefore at that time certain
Chaldeans came near and accused the Jews. They spake and said
to the King Nebuchadnezzar, O King, live for ever! Thou, O King,
hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound
of the cornet, flute, harp, sack-butt, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all
kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image.
And whoso falleth not down and worshipeth, that he should be
cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain
Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of
Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king,
have not regarded thee. They serve not thy gods, nor
worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar,
in his rage and fury, commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego. Then they brought these men before
the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said
unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Do not
ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image, which I have
set up? Now if ye be ready, that at what
time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sack-butt,
psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down
and worship the image, which I have made well. But if ye worship
not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning
fiery furnace. And who is that God that shall
deliver you out of my hands?" Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
answered and said to the king, O nebuchadnezzar, We are not
careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God,
whom we serve, is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace,
and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O King. But if not,
be it known unto thee, O King, that we will not serve thy gods,
nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." Then
was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury. and the form of his visage was
changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Therefore he spake,
and commanded, that they should heat the furnace one seven times
more than it was wont to be heated. and he commanded the most mighty
men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men
were bound, in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their
other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning
fiery furnace. Therefore, because the king's
commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame
of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego. And these three men, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning
fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king
was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto
his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound Into the midst
of the fire?" They answered, and said unto the King, True,
O King!" He answered, and said, Lo, I see four men loose, Walking
in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt, and the form
of the fourth is like the Son of God." Then Nebuchadnezzar
came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spake
and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of
the Most High God, come forth and come hither. Then Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego came forth of the midst of the fire, and
the princes governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being
gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire
had no power, nor was the hair of their heads singed, neither
were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed
on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar spake and
said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath
sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in
him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies,
that they might not serve nor worship any god except their
own god. Therefore I make a decree, that
every people, nation, and language, which speak anything amiss against
the god of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in
pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill, because there
is no other god that can deliver after this sort." Then the king
promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon. This concludes our reading of
Daniel chapter 3 Proverbs chapter 4 Hear, ye children, the instruction
of a father, and attend to no understanding. For I give you
good doctrine, forsaking not my law. For I was my father's
son, tender and only beloved, in the sight of my mother. He
taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my
words, keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding,
forget it not. neither declined from the words
of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall
preserve thee. Love her, and she shall keep
thee. Wisdom is the principal thing.
Therefore, get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote
thee. She shall bring thee to honour,
when thou dost embrace her. she shall give to thine head
an ornament of grace, a crown of glory shall she deliver to
thee. Hear, O my son, and receive my
sayings, and the years of thy life shall be many. I have taught
thee in the way of wisdom, I have led thee in the right paths.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straightened, And when
thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. Take fast hold of instruction,
let her not go, Keep her, for she is thy life. Enter not into
the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid
it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep
not, except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away,
unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness,
and drink the wine of violence. But the path of the just is as
the shining light They shineth more and more unto the perfect
day. The way of the wicked is as darkness. They know not at what they stumble. My son, attend to my words, incline
thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine
eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart, for they are
life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence,
for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a
froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine
eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before
thee. Ponder the path of thy feet,
and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand, nor
to the left. Remove thy foot from evil. This concludes the reading of
Proverbs Chapter 4 and this concludes the reading for December 3. May
the Lord richly bless you this day.
