Hello and welcome to our broadcast. We're in our second message in chapter 24 of the book of Genesis. We've entitled it, Here Comes the Bride. Stay tuned for our broadcast. Well, in our previous broadcast, we see the types that are here in this chapter. Abraham, of course, represents God. The servant represents the Holy Spirit. Isaac represents Christ and Rebecca, the bride of Christ, which, of course, represents Christians. Now we've come to chapter 24, verse number 10, when we read that the servant took 10 camels of the camels of his master. and departed for all the goods of his master were in his hand, and he rose and went to Mesopotamia under the city of Nahor." Now that's a 500 mile trip, and he gets down there. It's been many days. He's gone many, many miles. and he is near some wells of water just without the city and it's even time which is the time it says here in verse 11 that the women came to draw water. You remember John chapter 4 where Jesus went and was talking to the woman of Samaria When she came to draw water, it was noon. That's not when women usually came to draw water. Women came to draw water in the evening. But in chapter 24, she didn't want to be there. She was a wicked woman. She had a very bad reputation. And she didn't want to be there around those other women and get all the rebukes from them. So she's out there at noon. Well here we know that normally the Bible says the women came to draw the water and so we find that the servant of the Lord is where they're going to be because he knows why he's there. He's looking for a bride for Isaac. And so we read in verse number 11, and he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that the women go out to draw water. And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham." And so the first thing he does, which is the first thing we should always do when it comes to trying to seek souls for Jesus Christ, or any other reason for that thing, is to pray. And so we'll look here at the content of his prayer. It's very interesting. Notice he said here in verse number 12, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee send me good speed this day and show kindness unto my master Abraham. Now if you go down through this chapter, you'll find that he used that phrase, my master, twice in verse 12. We find it in verse 14. We find it again in verse number 35, and again in verse number 36, and 37, and 39, and 42, my master, my master, we get in 48, my master, 49, my master. He talks about his master's son in verse number 51. and 54, again you read here, he talks about my master, and again in verse number 56, my master, and again in 65, my master. Now God put that in there for some reason. He kept repeating it over and over and over again. What are we talking about? He's not praying here as he begins his prayer. back here in verse number 12. Oh, you know, I'm making things. I've had a long trip and been riding those little bumpy camels and for me. And no, it's not about him. It's about his master. And so he prays. And we see in the content of his prayer, he's saying, Lord, I would like to have something very specific here so that I know you're in this. He says in verse number 13, Behold, I stand here by the well of water. Like God didn't know he was there by the well of water? Yeah, God knew that. And the daughters of men of the city come out to draw water. Well, God knew that too. And he says, And let it come to pass that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also. Let the same be that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac, and thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master." Well, he's saying here now, he's going into great detail here, how he wants this to happen, so he can know Let it come to pass, he says, so that I can know for sure that this is the one that you're choosing. You know, we are so afraid sometimes to pray specific prayers. We say, Oh Lord, you know, please bless the service on Sunday. And, you know, nine visitors show up and we say, well, God answered my prayer, or He didn't. You know, maybe 90 visitors showed up in some charismatic meeting. What we need to do is get specific about our prayers, but we're so afraid that we'll paint ourselves in the corner here. No, he's getting very specific. He says, this is how I want to have it happen. I would like her to let down the picture. All the details that we have here is amazing. And then he says, now, I'm going to ask her for a drink. Look at verse 14. Let it come to pass that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also. Let the same be that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac, and thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master." Now, she's not only going to have the pitcher on her shoulder, she's going to let it down, she is going to say, yes, you can have a drink, and let me get water for those ten camels. Ten camels? Is this an impossible task? It can't be done? No, not impossible. It is improbable? Not likely to happen? Yeah, what woman is going to come out here and say, I'm going to draw water for ten camels? He said, let it be her. And what do we read here in verse 15? And it came to pass before he had done speaking that behold Rebecca came out. I love that. Behold Rebecca. who was born to Bethel, son of Michael, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, and her pitcher upon her shoulder. Now she's got to be part of the kindred, got to be part of the family, that's exactly what she is. And her pitcher on her shoulder. The verse goes on to say in verse 16, and the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her. And she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up. And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher. And she said, Drink, my lord. And she hastened, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave it to him. Now, you know, even that little thing right there, you're going to let some stranger drink out of your pitcher? God said, I want her to do that, and I'll know, or I'm sorry, the servant said, I want her to do that, and then I'll know this whole thing is of God. Well, she said, great, my Lord, and she hastened and let down her pitcher upon her hand and gave him drink, And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking. And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels, all his camels. Well, here she comes out before he's done praying, and She has this picture upon her shoulder. It says that three times in this chapter. Verse 15, verse 45, and verse 46. And then in verse 14, she let down the picture, it says here. The picture. That word by itself is in this chapter nine times. Something like the camels. There's a story about a picture here, too, if you look for it. In verse number 16, it says she was very fair to look upon. and she was a virgin, and neither had any man known her." Now, you know, I look at that verse, I say, why does it say it twice? If she's a virgin, then obviously neither has any man known her. Well, the word virgin has been translated maid seven times, and it's been translated maiden five times, and so it's simply saying that she was a maiden, and she was also a virgin, neither had any man known her. Now we read in verse 17 that the servant approached her and that's exactly what the Holy Spirit does. When I got saved as a young lad, I was 12 years old, the Holy Spirit came and talked to me about it. I wasn't looking for him, he came looking for me. That's the mercy of God. And so he ran to her and said, could I have a drink? Well, in verse number 18, we see the character of Rebecca. She let down the pitcher, as per his prayer in verse 14, and gave him to drink. And she said, I will water, verse 19, I will water your camels also. Now, here's a woman with some character. She's going to feed these ten camels some water. Now, that would be about 250 gallons of water. 250 gallons. Now, a thirsty camel can drink 30 gallons of water or 135 liters of water in 13 minutes. Now that would mean here that she's going to spend about two hours putting water from her pitcher, go to the well, put it in the trough, go to the well, put it in the trough. About two hours of work here to feed these camels. Not an impossible task for this to be put into her heart to do this. but an improbable task, but not when God is in the picture. And so God put it in her heart, give these camels some water, and here we find her doing it. It's an amazing story, as I said, this great chapter. Well, verse 20 says that she gave to drink all his camels, and verse 21 says that the servant just stood there wondering. The only time that you find that phrase is right here in this verse. And it means to gaze. And he just held his peace. He offered no help here. He could have said, I'll give you a hand with that. No, he wanted to see that God was doing what he had prayed that he would do. And so it says he held his peace to wit, to know. That word has been translated 645 times. He just said, no, I'm going to wait here and see. how God works. And so verse 22 says, when the camels were all done drinking, he gave her some silver and he gave her some gold. Let's read it. It says, and the man wondering at her, in verse 21, held his peace to wit whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not. And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel's weight, and two bracelets for her hand of ten shekels' weight of gold, and he said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee, is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in? Well, two questions here. First, he wants to know her kindred, her background. Verse 7 says he's got to be of his kindred. And the second question is, can they accommodate us? They're going to have a major discussion about the future of Rebecca, and God is going to have to put it in the heart, even though they are kindred, to say, yeah, come on in. We're going to have some hospitality here. And so in verse number 24, the answer is yes. In verse number 25, the answer is yes. he thought she is of the kindred and in verse 25 she said moreover unto him we have both straw and provender enough and room to lodge in and the man bowed down his head and worshipped the Lord now this is the second reference in the Bible about worshipping we saw the first one was back here when Abraham said to his servants I'll take the lad go yonder and worship which where he was going to sacrifice his son because that's what God said to do And now we have another reference to worshipping here, and it said he bowed his head and he worshipped. It was simply humbly acknowledging the fact that God had answered his prayer. Notice what he said here when he was praying and worshipping here. It says in verse 27, he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth. I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my masters, Now he's not telling God anything he doesn't already know. He's telling him that I am so humbled and I so appreciate my God. That is what he is saying here. Now notice in this verse alone he uses this phrase, my master, my master, my master. He uses it three times and we've seen 21 times in this chapter you're going to find the phrase my master. It's all about Well, in verse number 28 it says, And when the damsel ran and told her of her mother's house these things, and Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban, and Laban ran out unto the man unto the well. And it came to pass, when he saw the earrings and the bracelet upon his sister's hand, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me, that He came unto the man, and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well. And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord. Wherefore standest thou without? For I have prepared the house and room for thy camels. Well, you know, once again, we see the Lord's at work here. But you want to keep an eye on this Laban fellow. Why did he go running out there? Well, it says he saw the earrings and the bracelets. And you get a little further along in the book of Genesis, and you'll find that Laban had a view on money. Well, we're out of time again. Tune in again tomorrow. We'll continue it from here.
