Four Facets of the Birth of Jesus Christ

1] Jesus Christ the Son of David, the Son of Abraham, Matthew 1:1

Note verse 1 again: The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.

2] The Incarnation and Birth to a Virgin
I know that I have mentioned this before, but although it is proper to give attention to the coming of Jesus and His birth, in a sense the greater miracle was what took place 9 months before.

This is the one aspect that John's gospel has an emphasis.

John 1:14 ¶ And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Mary became pregnant in a way that was entirely miraculous.
The Lord Jesus Christ added to His divine person and nature a true human nature.

The Word of God can be challenging to understand and properly interpret. We are not guaranteed that our own interpretation of every passage is infallible. However, we can rejoice knowing that God's Word needs no update or modification. It is an ancient word, but it is an eternal word that is always relevant. May we be better students of God's Word for this reason.

3] God's Great Work through Mary and Joseph
God ultimately does not need us. However, God does choose to use His people in both ordinary and extraordinary ways.

4] Worship and War
There are two responses highlighted in Matthew and Luke with respect to the coming of our Lord – worship and war.

Worship – We are never going to reduplicate the joy of the first Christmas.

Our goal is always to seek the proper response.
