I don't know why it's so zoomed in on me. Well, good morning, it is Friday the 13th of December, 2024, and welcome once again to our daily Bible reading. Don't know why Facebook has this thing zoomed in on me so much. Normally it doesn't do that, but yeah, so I guess you get to have a zoomed in version of my smiling face on Friday the 13th. Now that's scary. Let's get to the word. We're going to finish out the book of James, chapter 4, verse 1, and we're going to read to the end of the book to chapter 5, verse 20, and then we're going to start 1 Timothy, 1 Timothy, chapter 1, and read to chapter 2, verse 15. So, let's get into the word today. Friday, the 13th of December, 2024. James 4, 110. Where do wars and fights come from among you? And do they not come from your desires for pleasure? That war in your members? You lust and you do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war and yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God, and whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God? Or do you think that the scripture says in vain, the spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously, but he gives more grace, and therefore he says God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble, and therefore submit to God? Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. lament and mourn and weep, and let your laughter return to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves, therefore, in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up. Warning against judging others, James 4, 11 and 12. Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is One lawgiver who is able to save and to destroy. And who are you to judge another? Warning about self-confidence, James 4, 13 to 17. Come now, you who say today or tomorrow will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell and make a profit, whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, if the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that. But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. And therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 1, 1 to 5, warning to the rich. Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your misery that are coming upon you. Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded and their corrosion will be like a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed, the wages of the laborer who mowed your field, which you kept back by fraud, cry out. And the cries of the Reaper have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. And you have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury, and you have fatted your heart as in the day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just, and he does not resist you." James 5, 7-12, Patience in Suffering. Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord, and see how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the field, Waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rains, you also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the judge is standing at the door. My brethren, take the prophets who have spoken the name of the Lord as an example of suffering and patience. Indeed, we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end. intended by the Lord, that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath, but let your yes be yes and your no, no, lest you fall into judgment. The Power of Prayer, James 5, 13 to 18. Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespass to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed. and the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain. And it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit." Restore Wandering Brother in James 5, 19-20. Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sin. And that was the book of James. So very good. little notation in our Bible that says many scholars believe that Paul was released from prison after some two years in Rome, and that he wrote 1 Timothy and Titus during this time, and that he made his hoped-for trip to Spain as well. 1 Timothy chapter 1, 1 and 2, greetings from Paul. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God, our Savior, and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope. To Timothy, a true son in the faith, grace, mercy, and peace from God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Warning against false teaching, 1 Timothy 1, 3-11. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, remain in Ephesus, that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies which cause disputes, rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now, the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say, nor the things which they affirm. But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if There is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust. Paul's gratitude for God's mercy, 1 Timothy 1, 12-17. And I thank Christ Jesus, our Lord, who has enabled me because he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. And although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man, but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly and unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief. However, for this reason, I obtain mercy that in me first, Jesus Christ might show all long suffering as a pattern to those who are going to believe on him for everlasting life. Now to the King Eternal, Immortal, Invisible, to God alone who is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. Timothy's Responsibility, 1 Timothy 1, 18-20 In this charge, I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some, having rejected concerning the faith, have suffered shipwreck, of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan, that they might learn not to blaspheme. Instructions about worship, 1 Timothy 2, 1 to 15. Therefore I exhort, first of all, that supplication, prayers and intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God, our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle, and speaking the truth in Christ and not lying, a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and in truth. I desire, therefore, that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting, in like manner also that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but which is proper for women professing godliness with good works. Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, and then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived fell into transgression. Nevertheless, she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, holiness, and self-control. Well, that was our reading today for Friday the 13th of December 2024. Thank you all so much for joining me, even though it's like really close to my face. I don't like that. I'm gonna have to figure out why this thing, I have the camera literally like on the other side of my desk here and it like still is like up my nose. And so anyway, it doesn't do that normally, but it figures, but anyway. Thank you all so much. Leave a comment or a reaction to this video, like I said. And I'll be sure to mark that down. We are going to be doing an audit here pretty soon of everybody. And what I mean by that is just, I'm gonna have a date. I haven't come up with a date. I'll have that hopefully by next week, where I want you all to just leave a comment and just say that I'm up to date on my Bible reading. And this way I can get everything all together, make sure that my list is all set. Or you can shoot me a text and just let me know that you're up to date and we'll go from there. I'll let you know when that date will be. But until then, trust that this is a blessing to you and trust that you're already planning for next year. So let's go to the Lord. Father, thank you so much for your goodness to us and your grace. Thank you for this word. Lord, we just pray that we would be doers of the word and not hearers only today. That we would live for you and God that you would get all the glory for it all. We love you and praise you in Jesus name. Amen. Bye everybody.
