Hey, good morning, everyone. Welcome to another morning devotion with Brother Mark, where we are walking together on our walk with Christ. Today is December the 13th, 2021. Well, this week, we're going to get back into our look at the book of 3 John, and we're going to see that John loved Gaius. You know, he called him beloved three times, which we're on our second look at John's Just a quick reading of 3 John. It seems that some have gone on a missionary journey without support. and why they would not receive support is not exactly evident from this text. However, it is evident that as they were on their missionary journey, that Gaius helped them. John is encouraging Gaius to continue his ministry of helping others. who are serving the Lord. Gaius is a man of charity. He is not serving in order to receive the recognition of men. He is only making available to God his blessings that God has given him. So he is very hospitable and he shares the blessings of God with those who are there serving the Lord. As you read on, you'll find there's a man by the name of Diotrephes. Diotrephes was not a man who was full of charity. In order to be a man of charity, you must put the needs of others before yourself. And John mentions that Diotrephes was not a man who put the needs of others before his own. Diotrephes was a man that needed to have the preeminence. He had to be the big man. He had to be noticed by everyone. He had to be out in front, you know, He had to be the one that everyone took note of everything that he did. He had to receive some kind of, you know, recognition for everything that he did. You know, when someone has this attitude, they rarely seek to assist others. Also, we know from a brief study of this letter that Diocletes wouldn't read John's letter, and that's why he's writing to Gaius. It seems also that not only did Diotrephes refuse to read the letter of John, but he also spake against John with malicious words. And we could study this whole thing, but we're really just thinking about Gaius, a man of charity, and the reason that John loved him was because Gaius was willing to serve others. But let's just make a quick comparison of these two men. Which would you like to be known as? The man who served others, like Gaius? Or the man who had to have the preeminence, like Diotrephes? Gaius was loved of John because he served others. So today, this week, be a Gaius. Be a man of charity. Be a woman of charity. Love others. Assist others. All for the glory of God. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of men like Gaius, who were willing to make the blessings you gave him available to others. God, I pray your people will see the need to live like Gaius. Thank you for Jesus, who became a servant also to save us from our sins. We thank you for the love that God has shown us through Jesus Christ. In his name I pray, amen. Well, that's a Monday morning devotion. Until tomorrow, this is Brother Mark signing off.
