Well, Pilgrim, I want to talk some more about living for Christ in our daily lives. So, grace and peace to you.
Pilgrim, let's talk about something that's very important, and it's life-changing. Something that's at the heart of everything we believe. the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2.1, You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus. That's not just advice. That's a lifeline for every Christian.
Now, it's this grace, this God's free love that first reached out to you, wasn't it? You didn't earn it. You didn't chase it down. God's grace found you. And it's this grace that gives you your identity as a Christian. The Bible says in Colossians 1 6, which has come to you as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing, as it also does among you since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.
In first Peter 2 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good have you? Romans 9 15 reminds us for he says to Moses I will have mercy on whom I'll have mercy and I'll have a compassion on whom I'll have compassion friend You're someone God has had compassion on if you're someone to whom he has He has shown forgiving love. Shouldn't you show it back in your life?
This grace, it isn't just how you got started, it's your strength. And it should be your joy today. You can't live the Christian life without it. You can't find true comfort, lasting holiness, or real refreshment anywhere else. The Bible says, but by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15 10.
Now, even though you're a believer, you're still a sinner. That's true for all of us right up until our last breath. And nothing fits a sinner but the free love of God. Be strong in that grace. Don't let doubt take over. You're saved by believing, not by doubting. Jesus said in John 6, 29, this is the work of God that you believe in Him, believe in Him who He has sent.
So keep drawing on Christ and His fullness for grace. If you wander away, don't stay gone, don't stay away, come right back. Go to him. He wants you to, just like you did at first. If you lose your peace, don't try to get it back by digging through your feelings or your experiences. Oh, I don't feel like it. It's not my experience. Don't do that. Go straight to God's free love. You found peace there at the start. You'll find peace there at the end. Romans 5.2 says, Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Pilgrim, your standing in grace is the strongest and most blessed place you can ever be. Ephesians 6.15 tells us, And as shoes for your feet, heavy put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. Put it on. When you're standing in God's grace, you're able to stand firm and stand, withstand, withstand whatever comes your way.
Paul and Barnabas, they knew this. They urged the believers to continue in the grace of God. Acts 13.43 says, And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.
Galatians 5.4 warns, You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace. No, it's grace, not law. Titus 2.11 reminds us, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, all that come to the Lord. And 1 Peter 5.12 says, By Silvanus, a faithful brother, as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.
Now don't get the wrong idea, pilgrim. Grace doesn't make sin smaller. It makes it bigger in your eyes, and it should. It doesn't make you careless about how you live either. When you truly understand grace, you see how serious sin really is, and you want to please God all the more.
Charles Spurgeon once said, grace puts its hand on the boasting mouth and shuts it once for all. We have nothing to brag about, pilgrim, except the grace of God.
Thomas Watson, he wrote, grace is a seed of glory, a seed of glory. and the beginning of heaven. What a thought. If you're standing in grace, you're already tasting heaven. You got one foot in.
So let me encourage you, don't go back to relying on your own strength, your own feelings, or your own record. Go back to where you found peace at first, the free love of God. That's the beginning of your confidence, and it should be the end as well. Let grace be both your first and your last resort.
If you ever feel far from God, don't try to fix it by looking inside yourself. You ain't going to find nothing good there. You shouldn't. Look to Christ. Go back to the cross.
The Bible says in Romans 5.20, Now the law came in to increase the trespass. But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more. Grace abounding.
Friend, I know life gets hard. Do I know it? Temptation comes. Do I know it? And doubt creeps in. Yep. But remember, you're not standing on your own goodness. You're standing in the grace of God. That's how you stand, and that's how you withstand.
John Owen once said, the greatest sorrow and burden you can lay on the Father, the greatest unkindness you can do to Him, is not to believe that He loves you. So believe it. God's grace is for you, and it's enough for every day, every day of your life. Right up to you, across that river.
So let's look at the practical side. Draw on Christ every day. Remember that you're loved, you're forgiven, you're accepted. When you stumble, run back to Jesus. When you're weak, ask Him for strength. When you're joyful, thank Him for His grace.
My friend, the world may try to tell you to find comfort and strength in other places, but don't trade the grace of God for anything else. Galatians 2.21 tells us, I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
And believe me, pilgrim, he didn't die for no purpose. He died for you and me. Richard Baxter said, Christ chooses to manifest his love in ways that magnify his grace. Friend, let your life be a testimony to that grace.
You may wonder, well, how do I know I'm really living in grace? Well, pilgrim, are you trusting Jesus? Are you turning to him day by day? Are you finding your peace, your joy, your hope in him? If so, you're living in grace.
It's not about big feelings or dramatic experiences. Don't chase experiences. It's about simple daily faith in Christ. Jonathan Edwards said, grace is but glory begun and glory is but grace perfected. Hold on to that truth.
If you ever feel discouraged, remember that God's grace is bigger than your sin, stronger than your weakness, and more faithful than your doubts. Romans 8, 1 tells us there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Pilgrim, that's grace. So friend, let me sum it up. Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Stand firm in it. Live by it. Let it be your joy, your strength, your hope. When you fall, and you will, run back to it. Jesus said, my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Pilgrim it is. 2 Corinthians 12, 9.
And the Psalms say, For the Lord God is a sun and a shield. The Lord bestows favor. He bestows honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84, 11.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the grace that is in Christ Jesus. We thank you for loving us first, for forgiving our sins, for forgiving us. giving us strength every day. Help us to stand firm in your grace, to trust you more and more, and to come back to you quickly whenever we wander off. Fill our hearts with joy, fill them with peace, peace that only your grace can give. Remind us that we are yours, and that your love never fails. Make us strong in grace, so we can live as true followers of Jesus, day by day, throughout our lives. In Jesus' holy, precious name we pray, amen.
Maranatha, come Lord Jesus, the sun is trying to shine through, bright, bright upon my face. Feels good, feels good.
Well, pilgrim, walk with Jesus. Walk beside him, behind him, don't get ahead of him. And friend, read your Bible every day, pray often, talk to the Lord daily, pray often. Let his word and his grace guide your steps.
