The Best Investment

Many stress about whether they will have enough to retire. Others have saved up more than they can spend. But few are concerned about what happens after retirement is over. People get their affairs in order but no one seems to care about what will happen to them. There is no retirement plan on earth that gives you life after death. The best investment is in eternity. This is our temporary home. You cannot buy your way in, but you will reap eternal rewards. The poorest man in heaven is still richer than the richest man on earth. Jesus said, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." If God is my master, I trust in His goodness and know that He will take care of me, no matter what. I can risk obeying Him! He will provide what I need. Our security is not in securities! We lay up treasures in heaven by giving to God's purposes and God's people. The consequences of such investments last forever. We store treasures in heaven by loving God and loving others. Financially, we store treasures in heaven by using money for kingdom causes, by giving money to the church, to missions, to Christian schools, to the poor. When we lay up treasures in heaven by investing our money in God's people, our investment will bear dividends for eternity. "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." (Jim Elliot)
