Reformation Studies - Lesson 3 - The Counter Reformation and Council of Trent. The Catholic response to the Protestant Reformation including the founding of the Jesuit order as well as militant efforts to re-convert Protestants up to and including an Inquisition and executions. With the Council of Trent the RC Church formally declared that sola scriptura, sola gratia, sola fide, and solus Christus were anathema and any holding to the doctrine of justification by faith were outside the faith. Trent is still in force as the official stance of the RC Church wherein they continue to flatly deny as heresy the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
