Hello again and welcome to the program. We've been talking about discernment and deception in this age that we're living in. We have three types of deception. There's worldwide deception, there's deception within the local church, and the Bible also deals with self-deception. We're going to look at it.
Once we trust Christ as our personal Savior, we have a new nature, but we still have that old nature, which the Bible sometimes refers to as the natural man. Now, whichever nature we feed, that's the one that's going to grow.
In 1 Corinthians 2, verse number 14, it says, the natural man, that old nature, receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, For they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
In Deuteronomy 11, verse number 16, the Bible says, Take heed to yourselves, well it's yourself, that is your mind, your will, and your emotions. Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside.
Galatians 6 and 3 says, For a man think himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
In Jeremiah 17, 9 we read, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can know it?
Concerning that old nature, Paul said in Romans 17, verse number 18, For I know that in me that is in my flesh, that's the old nature, dwelleth no good thing. For the will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good, I find not." That phrase, find not, has been translated, cannot, 57 times. He's referring to the old nature here, and he says, to do that which is good, I find not. It's not there in that old nature. It's only in the new.
And so Paul said in Romans 8, verse number 12, therefore, brethren, We are debtors not to the flesh, the old nature, to live after the flesh. For if we live after the flesh, ye do die. But if ye through the spirit, the new nature, do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
In Romans 12, 1 and 2, he said, I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice wholly acceptable unto God. and be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
In 1 Peter 2, verse 2, we read as newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.
And then again in 2 Peter 3, 17, Peter said, ye therefore, beloved, seeing you know these things before, Beware, lest ye, also being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. forever.
Again, Paul the Apostle said in 1 Corinthians 9 26, I therefore so run not as uncertainty, so fight I not as one that beateth the air.
And so once again, in these last days, there's three types of deception. There's worldwide deception, that's very obvious. And then there's local church deception, where false prophets are teaching false doctrine, such as you don't need to repent in order to be saved. That is a damnable heresy. And then there is self-deception.
Deuteronomy 11, 16, Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside.
