I encourage you to take your Bibles this morning and turn with me to John chapter 6, and we'll begin reading at verse 1 going through verse 16 as we continue our study through the Gospel of John. I've entitled the message this morning, Not Enough and Jesus. Not Enough and Jesus. We'll see what that means in just a minute. After these things, Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. When Jesus then lifted up his eyes and saw a great company coming to him, he saith unto Philip, When shall we buy bread that these may eat? And this he said to prove him, for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, 200 penny worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. One of the disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, there is a lad here which hath five barley loaves and two small fishes, but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place, so the men sat down and numbered about 5,000. And Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples and the disciples to them that were set down, and likewise to the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore, they gathered them together and filled 12 baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, this is of a truth, that prophet that should come into the world. When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force to make him a king, he departed again unto a mountain himself alone. And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea. Let's pray. Father, we thank you today for this wonderful passage. We know that we're familiar with this passage, Lord, because it talks about the feeding of the 5,000. And it's a great story, Lord, but there's so many good things for us to learn from it. And I pray that you would help us as Christians, Lord, to learn today what we need to from this wonderful passage of Scripture. I pray that you might speak to each heart, encourage the Christian, convict us if that needs to happen, and Lord, help us to determine we're gonna do more for you, and we're gonna place more in your hands so that you can do more for us. And Lord, I pray for that one who's not saved, that you might help them to realize they need Jesus above all else, and help them to come to faith in Him today, we pray. Give enablement to bring the message, and we'll thank you in Jesus' name, amen. Many times in our life, we face circumstances when we find that we do not have enough. It might be that we do not have enough money. Anybody ever been there? I'm sure you have. It might be that we do not have enough food. Now, I believe most of us are well-fed. I won't say anything about the way you look, but I think most of us are well-fed. But we have been through times when there have been leanness. I can remember times in our early marriage when we went through that. We always had something to eat, but there were times we didn't have much and we wondered what we were going to have. Also, there's times when we don't have enough strength. I imagine you've been through times like that. That happens quite often in our life. And then there's the times when we don't have enough patience, and we don't dare pray for that because the Lord says troubles or tribulation works patience, but the Lord wants us to have patience, so sometimes we don't have enough of that, and we need more. Sometimes we don't have enough wisdom. And that's often in our lives. Thank the Lord that He is wisdom. And if we have Him, we have the wisdom that we need. Sometimes we don't have enough time. We don't think we do. Really, we have as much time as anybody else has, 24 hours a day. And it's the way we use our time, but sometimes we're pressed for time and we feel like we don't have enough time. Then there's times we don't have enough ability. I'd like to do something, but I can't. or not able to figure this out. I'm glad that when we don't have enough ability, he is able. He is able all the time. And then there are times when you might feel like you don't have enough friends. And sometimes people go through that. I've been very privileged in my life. I have a lot of friends. And I thank the Lord for that. I have a lot of friends here. I have friends in other states. I have pastors that I've known for years. And I know I have friends, and it's such a blessing to have friends. But if you feel like you don't have a friend, if you have Jesus, he's this friend that sticks closer than a brother. But there are times when we feel like we don't have enough. When we become anxious during those times about our lack, when we don't have enough up, when we don't feel like we don't have enough, and we become worried about it, we really display our lack of faith in the Lord. Because I'm reminded what the Lord says in Matthew chapter 6, if you want to turn with me there. We're gonna read a few verses, Matthew chapter six, verse eight. The Lord says this, be not ye therefore likened to them, that is the Gentiles, people who don't know the Lord, for your father knoweth what things ye have need of, and then notice this, before ye ask. Before you ask Him, He knew what you had need of, so it didn't take Him by surprise. Look at verse 31. Therefore take no thought saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after these things do the Gentiles seek. For your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things." So, He knows we have need of things. He lets us come to the place where we have need of things. He lets us experience, when we say, we don't have enough, He lets that happen. Because he knew it all along, but he had a purpose. Then he says this, But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. I'm reminded also of what Philippians chapter 4 says in verse 19. That says, but my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. God will supply all our need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. So God has promised to provide our needs, but sometimes we feel like we don't have enough. In our passage this morning, we read the feeding of the 5,000. It tells of a time when Jesus' disciples had a big need and no way to meet it. They had a great big need and they were aware of that, but they had no way to meet it. It was another one of those impossible situations. I mean, how could 12 humble servants of Jesus feed 5,000 men plus women and children? It was surely one of those not enough situations. They didn't have enough. It was impossible for man to do it. but it was not impossible for God because nothing is impossible for the Lord. It should be encouraging to us as Christians to know that when we do not have enough, Jesus has for us more than enough. When you don't have enough, Jesus has more than enough. As we examine this passage this morning, we're going to look at five things as we move through the story of the feeding of 5,000. Five things that sort of break up the passage. The first one that I want to look at is the setting of the miracle. The setting of the miracle that happened when Jesus fed the 5,000. To understand it, we need to know what happened beforehand. So here's the setting. It followed the sending forth of the 12 apostles. The Lord sent them out. We find this in Mark chapter six. He sent them out, and he told them, you go two by two. And you don't need to take a lot of stuff with you. Wherever you go, if somebody wants to take care of you, that's fine. And you go in there, and you stay with them, and you do the work that I want you to do. And they were to teach. They were to cast out devils, out demons out of people, and they were to heal the sick. They were amazed that they were able to do that. And so they went out two by two. It also followed something else that happened, and that was the murder of John the Baptist. John the Baptist was a great man. God says there's no, of those born of women, none greater than John the Baptist. John the Baptist was in prison waiting to see what would happen. And a wicked king named Herod happened to be married to his brother's, or rather he had taken his brother's wife. Now, his brother wasn't a godly man either. In fact, his brother married his own niece. And so his brother took his niece that had become his wife, and so the whole family was messed up. So this woman that left her first husband, and she was his actual niece and also his wife, she left her husband to go to be with her husband's brother, you knew she was a messed up woman. Well, one time they were having a party for Herod. And Herod's wife said, I want to get even with that John the Baptist. And so Herod's wife had her daughter, and her daughter was much like her. She went and danced an ungodly dance before Herod and all of his people, his men that were with him, and they were drinking and everything. And Herod was so excited about that girl and what she was doing and the way she was dancing. He said, I'll give you a half of the kingdom. You just tell me what you want. Well, her mother had told her what to ask for. She said, tell him I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter, a platter that you serve food on. I want the head of John the Baptist. Herod was struck. He didn't know what to do. But because he had given his word, because of the people around him, what they might think of him, he went ahead and had it done. They go into prison, get John the Baptist, cut his head off, and take the head in a platter to the mother of this young lady who had danced. His disciples then went and took the body, the headless body of John the Baptist, and buried it. After that, the disciples who had gone out to minister two by two heard about it, and they came and told Jesus about it. And that's the setting of the story. Right after that took place, this takes place. It was also after the apostles told Jesus that all of this, and then they needed rest. I mean, they had been working for the Lord, they had been on this mission, and they came back from this mission the Lord had sent them on, and they were tired. And let's look at Mark chapter six, and we'll read the account of what took place. Mark chapter six, verse 31. Verse 30 says, the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus. They told him all these things, both what they had done and what they had taught, and also what had happened to John. And he said to them, come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while. It was Vance Havner. the great preacher of years ago who said, if we don't come apart, we will come apart. So there's time that we need rest. And Jesus says, come apart, you need, I need a time of rest. And so they took a time of rest. Matthew chapter 14 says, he departed by ship into a desert place. They went to a desert place. The Bible tells us another place, it was close to Bethsaida. and they went to this desert place where there were no villages there. It was just out in the open so they could rest and take a time of refreshment. The Bible says in John 6, verse 1, we read that Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias, also known as the Sea of Gennesaret, so the Sea of Galilee. In Luke chapter 9, it says there was a desert place belonging to the city of Bethsaida. And so they were up in the western side of the sea of Galilee, and you could have walked around the northern part of it to where they went, but Jesus, they were all tired. He got on a boat, and they sailed across the boat to where they were going. And so that's the setting. And then the Bible says in John chapter six, verse three, they went up on a mountainside and sat down with Jesus. They were gonna listen to their teacher. They sat down with Jesus. And the Bible says the time, verse four, the time was before the Passover. So this gives us an idea about the time. It was in the springtime. And we know it was the springtime because it says there was much grass there. Verse 4 says that there was much grass. So it was spring of the year, and they sat on this mountainside where there's much grass. We contrast that to, a little bit later, we find in Matthew chapter 15, the story of the feeding of the 4,000. There was the feeding of the 5,000, and then some months later, there's a feeding of the 4,000. And the feeding of the 4,000 says this, he commanded them to sit down on the ground. It doesn't mention the grass because it was later in the year and it probably wasn't real grassy at that time. He told them to sit down on the ground. But in the feeding of the 5,000, they sat down on the grass on this mountainside. And then the multitudes came. No time for rest for Jesus and His disciples. And the Bible says the multitudes didn't come by ship. When Jesus left where they were and they had seen His miracles, they ran. In fact, they ran up over the northern part of the Sea of Galilee instead of Him going across, you know, them going across on a boat. They ran and they got there before Jesus did. They ran on foot. And the Bible says in Mark 6, verse 33, they came afoot and they outwent him. That's the old English way of saying they got there before he did. And when he got there, he looked up, they sat down on the mountain, and there they were, there they came. And they had found out where he was, and they came right to him, and there was a multitude there. The Bible says in Matthew 15, verse 14, there was a great multitude. Mark 6, verse 34, there was much people. Matthew 14, verse 13, they followed him on foot out of the cities, and so there was this great multitude of people. So that's the setting of the miracle. Now let's look at the staggering need that we find. The staggering need is that these people, after sitting there with Jesus and him teaching all day long and healing the sick and things like that, they didn't have any food. So Jesus, when he saw this mountain, this is early in the year, early in the day, Jesus said to Philip, he said, where should we buy bread? Where should we buy bread? Verse five. And he's testing Philip. He knew they weren't going to buy bread, but he says, Philip, where should we buy bread? He didn't say, how much money do we have? He said, where are we going to buy bread? It says he was testing Philip, but he knew what he was going to do. Let me stop there a minute. You know, sometimes the Lord puts us through times of trial. He tests us. It seems like it's impossible. We don't have enough. We don't know what to do. But the Lord says, I know what I'm going to do. I know what I'm going to do. And so when you're going through a time of trial, remember, the Lord knows what he's going to do. And so he knew what he was going to do. And sometimes, you know, God brings us to these problems so that we will come to him for the solution. And so he knew what he was going to do. So Jesus knew what he was going to do, and he was going to feed these 5,000 people. The Bible says there were 5,000 people and the wages for 200 days worth of work would not be sufficient to pay. Because Philip said, when Jesus said, where are we going to buy food? Philip says, well, Lord, You know, if we had 200 penny worth, we had two, and it was a wage of a day, he said, if we had a man's wage for 200 days, it wouldn't be sufficient. So three-fourths of the year, you know, if you had your wages three-fourths of the year, it wouldn't be enough to buy food for all these people. And so he says, it wouldn't be sufficient, not enough, not enough. But so the apostles were ready to send them away. And here's the way they reasoned. Matthew 14, verse 15, they said, it's a desert place. I mean, it's a place out in the open. There's no stores here. There's no villages right here. We can't just, you know, go to the local store there and get something to eat. He says it's a desert place. And it says in verse 36 of Mark 6, they have nothing to eat. And then it says in Matthew that it won't be long till it's dark. He said, the time has now passed. In other words, it's going to get dark soon. So we have a problem, all these people, and we can't feed them. The disciples thought that they needed food, but what they really needed was Jesus. Yes, they did need food, and sometimes we've come to a circumstance where we need certain things, and we do need those, but what we really need is Jesus, or who we really need is Jesus. So, the Bible says there were 5,000 men plus women and children. We get that detail from Matthew chapter 14. In fact, I didn't mention this, but this is the only miracle of Jesus where it's recorded in all four of the gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John all tell about this incident. And so they have different details that they share, but they all tell about this. So it's very important for us to listen to. So Matthew chapter 14, verse 21 says, they that had eaten were about 5,000 men beside women and children. 5,000 men, say those men, most of them had wives and they brought their wives. And then several of them had children, many of them probably. Some estimated there might have been 10 to 20,000 people there. In those days, they counted men, they didn't count the women. Sorry, women. But that's the way they did it back then. And so he said 5,000 men plus women and children. That would be a staggering need. It was really big. They needed a lot of food. In fact, Philip said, you remember he said, 200 penny worth is not enough to buy food so each of them can have a little bit, a little. Well, when Jesus provided for them, they had a lot. But just a little bit, it wouldn't be sufficient. So then we come to the serious deficiency. The staggering need, now the serious deficiency. We find that in verses eight and nine. Philip had already said that they were deficient in money. They didn't have enough money. And they could not buy enough, so not enough money. But also, Jesus said this, Mark chapter six, verse 40. How many loaves have ye? Go and see. So Jesus said, now how many loaves are here? How much do we have? Go and see. Andrew and probably some of the others, but Andrew went to see. Andrew must have been some kind of guy, you know. He talked a little boy out of his lunch. In fact, Andrew, there's three times in the Bible where he mentions about Andrew, and every time he's bringing somebody to Jesus. He brought his brother, Peter, to Jesus. He brought this little lad to Jesus and he brought one time in chapter 12 of John, it tells us that there were Gentiles there and they went to Philip and they said, we would see Jesus. So Philip went to Andrew and then Andrew and Philip took them to Jesus. So Andrew was always bringing people to Jesus. And so he brings this little lad to Jesus. And Andrew said this, there is a little lad here which hath five barley loaves and two small fishes. Five barley loaves. Now, barley was the grain of poor people. So he didn't say there's really nice bread here. He said there's five barley loaves. Now loaves was not like we think of. Yesterday I went to the store and bought some bread and some meat for the committee meeting we're having after church. And I brought a loaf of white bread and a loaf of wheat because people like different things, and a loaf of bread. Now if you had five loaves of that bread, you'd have a lot of slices. But you still wouldn't have enough for 5,000 people. But that wasn't the kind of loaf I was talking about. It was like a pancake, a little pancake or something that the boy's mother put in his lunch. So five loaves and two small fishes. Now, I don't know what they were, whether they were like sardines or whether they were like a bass or a bluegill or something like that. But they were two small fishes. Now, I don't know what kind of fish they were. Some people say that they were probably pickled fish that the mother had prepared ahead of time because she wouldn't send raw fish to him and with him, but I don't know what they kind of were, but he brought two fish with him in his lunch. But then Andrew said this, but what are they among so many? What are they among so many? Well, when we observe this situation and we find the serious deficiency, we find that the food they had was in the hand of a little boy. He was a weak little boy, and he had five loaves and two small fishes. That teaches us that we do not have to be big and strong to be used of God. God can take a child and use them for the Lord. A couple weeks ago, I gave an assignment to the young people. I said, in the month of January, I'd like for you to memorize the 23rd Psalm, the 23rd Psalm. Just come and say it to me, word perfect, and I'll have a prize for you, everyone that can do it during the month. Well, just a few days later, Meadow came to me and says, Pastor, can I say the 23rd Psalm? And I said, yes. And she did it word perfect. You know, God uses little people. And God says to this little lad, I've got a big problem here. Not a problem for Jesus, but they have a big problem here. You know, all these people need to be fed. And I'm going to use you, this little boy. So the solution was in the hands of a weak little boy. How often that's true of us, you know. We want God to do something big, and yet the Lord says, what about you? Can I use you? And so this little boy offered his lunch to the Lord. So then the food they had was not enough. Andrew said that, and in fact, it wasn't the Lord's estimation, but it was Andrew, and he said, but what are they among so many? And wouldn't we agree? And this little boy's lunch to feed maybe 10,000 people. Ridiculous. There's no way that can be done except for Jesus. Jesus can do it. But the lad was willing to give his lunch, and he gave his lunch to Jesus. There's nothing too small for Jesus to use. We have a big project that we want to do, and that's to build a church. And you say, well, I just don't have, I just don't, how can I do it? The Lord says, you have a little, give a little. You have more, give more. But the Lord says, I will use what you give. And the little boy was willing to give his lunch. You see, the Lord didn't need that little boy's lunch. He was able to do it without the lunch. I mean, Jesus is the creator God. And if all he had to do is speak the world into existence, The Bible says the heavens are the works of his fingers. You know, the moon and the stars, just like that, and there they were. And he spoke the word, and the earth came into existence, and the stars came into existence, and he just spoke the word, and he made things. God didn't have to have that little boy's lunch. He's the same God who rained manna from heaven, you remember, and fed the children of Israel in the wilderness. And every day, they would go out and pick this mysterious bread that just was there on the ground because the Lord put it there. It's not hard for God to do that, but God says, I want to use little boy. Could God do some big thing for us? Sure He could, but He wants to use us. He wants to use us. And he says, I want to use what you have. And so the little boy was willing to give it to the Lord. I ask you this morning, are we listening to what the Lord is saying? Are we listening to what the Lord is saying about this little boy? You might say, but I'm little, I'm insignificant. But do you give what you have to the Lord? God wants to use what we have. So then there's this, So there's this staggering problem and this serious deficiency, but then we come to the next part in the passage, and that is the satisfying Savior. Aren't you glad of that? The satisfying Savior. I mean, He meets every need. The Bible says in Psalm 23, the Lord is my shepherd and what? I shall not want. Not enough? Well, the solution is Jesus. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. And we read a while ago in Matthew chapter six, the Lord can take care and meet our needs. Philippians chapter four again, my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Well, let's look at the Savior, the satisfying Savior. The first thing we need to see is that when this whole event started, And all the multitudes appeared there before them. The Bible says the Lord's heart was touched. He was moved with compassion. When he first saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion. Matthew chapter 14, verse 14 says like this, he was moved with compassion and he healed their sick. I mean, they weren't all saved people, they weren't all believers, that was evident a little bit later. But the Lord was compassionate, and he cared about them, and the Lord cares about you. And he was moved with compassion. Mark chapter six, he was moved with compassion toward them because they were as sheep without a shepherd. The Lord looked at them as they're just wandering people, they don't really understand. And I moved with compassion for them. That's the same thing we see in John 3, 16. God so loved the world, the lost world, the sinful world, the world that was enmity against God. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. He was moved with compassion. And then the next thing about this satisfying Savior is his heart was touched for their need. And then he said to them, he said, now make all the men sit down. I mean, you got 5,000 men out there, plus the women that was with them and their children. He says, make all the men sit down. And he said, because there's much grass on the place, so sit down on the grass. Matthew 14, verse 19, he says, he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass. And the Bible tells us that they sat down by companies and ranks, and they sat down in hundreds and fifties. It's like on this mountainside, the Lord arranges them. One commentator pointed out like this, he said he arranged them in rows, you know, so the disciples could maybe walk between them and serve them or however it was done. He arranged them in rows and said, can you imagine around that mountainside and these rows of people, rows of people, and dressed in their different colored outfits, they would look like maybe plants or flowers all around that area. The Bible says in Psalm 23, he maketh me lie down in green pastures. And Jesus had them sit down in green pastures on much grass. He ranged it. It also shows us, as someone pointed out, that Jesus wants order even if he's going to use his divine power. And so he arranged them orderly to take care of what he's going to do. And then the Bible says Jesus did something. He thanked the Father for the food. Now, wait a minute. Jesus is God, and he's the one that's going to multiply this food, and yet he thanks the Father. There's one God existing in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God the Father sent his Son to this earth. His Son became subservient or obedient to the Father, and he recognized the Father all the time. And if God's Son would lift his eyes to heaven and thank the Lord for the food, don't you think we should? We surely should. The Bible says in Matthew 15 verse 18, he said, bring them to me, that is the five loaves and two fishes. And then he says, looking up to heaven, he blessed it. He blessed it. The Bible says every good gift comes from above, from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. So if every good gift comes from above, that means your food. And so Jesus looked up into heaven as if to recognize this came from God, the Father, and he thanked the Lord for it. I read the account, I shared this probably years ago, I read the account of an old farmer who went into town one day and he was tired and he was dirty, you know, with his farm clothes. He had been out working. He went into this restaurant and ordered some food and sat down to the food and he took his hat off and he bowed his head and prayed silently. Some young guy across the way looked at him and said, hey, old man, is everybody out where you live? bow their head before they eat and pray? And the farmer looked up and he said, no, the pigs don't. The pigs don't. Well, I hope we don't act like pigs. The Lord says, before you eat, thank the Lord. I thank the Lord every time I eat. If there's ever a time I forget, after I've started eating, I'll say, sorry, Lord, thank you so much for this food. Quite often when I'm at church, I bring lunch with me. I sit at my desk and nobody else is around, but God's there. And before I eat, I say, thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord, for the food. We should thank the Lord for the food. Jesus did, and so we should as well. So he thanked the Lord for the food. The Bible says in Psalm 107, verse nine, for he satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with goodness. And so Jesus thanked the Lord for the food. And then he multiplied the food. The Bible says they brought the food to him, he thanked the Lord for it, he began to break it and distribute it to the disciples. Now, I don't know if you can imagine this picture, but Jesus has five loaves and two fishes, and all this multitude is, you know, they're in rows. They're expecting something, and Jesus is up there, and they can see he doesn't have much, and he starts breaking it in pieces. And he gives it to his disciples. They probably have baskets because they took 12 baskets home with them, so they probably have baskets. He breaks it in, and he's doing this all the time. He continues to break it, continues to break it. Not only the loaves, but also the fishes. There's another gospel that says that, also the fishes. And so he broke those pieces and gave them to the disciples, and then the disciples distributed them to the people. You see, God uses people. God provides, but then he lets us share it with other people. And so Jesus provided, and he fed all those 5,000. And then it says this, Jesus told them, now go and pick up all the fragments, that nothing be lost. And they picked up all the fragments, and the fragments that were left over were 12 baskets. I looked at the Greek words there, and the word basket there is like a sturdy wicker-type basket. In the feeding of the 4,000, it was a soft, flimsy-type basket. I don't know why the difference, but they were two totally different words. But in this occasion, they picked up 12 baskets, and they were big, sturdy baskets. Now, why 12? I don't know, except there were 12 apostles. Maybe the Lord said, now you take, each of you take a basket home with you. And I can just imagine this little boy who had his lunch multiplied and Jesus fed all of them. Those disciples probably went up, hey, say, son, take some of this home with you. I don't know what happened, but it was amazing the Lord provided that. And he said, don't waste anything. Remember, this all started with the little boy's lunch. It all started with a little boy's lunch. Great accomplishment, big miracle. All these people fed, but it all started with a little boy's lunch. How many big projects are ahead of you or your family or our church that will start with a little bit that God multiplies? God can surely do it. Well, it's sad we have to conclude the story this way, but then the last point is this, the selfish followers the selfish followers. What did they do? They said, wow, look what Jesus just did. I wonder if this is that prophet spoken of in Deuteronomy. I wonder if that's, well, it was. He was that prophet. But what they wanted, they didn't want anything about what Jesus really was about. They wanted food. and they wanted him to conquer Rome, and they wanted him to heal their diseases. And so they said, this is the prophet. And then Jesus knew what was going on in their mind, and he said, I know that they're gonna come, they wanna come by force and make me their king. They want a king who can conquer Rome and can provide us food and heal our diseases. Wow, this is great, this is what we want. Jesus looked through it and thought, I imagine he probably said, they're not interested in repentance. They're not interested in salvation. They're interested in themselves and what they can get out of it. You know, there's a lot of people like that way. A lot of people like that. And that is, they don't really care about loving Jesus and serving Jesus. All they want is what they can get out of it. Oh, we don't have to go to hell. and he's going to take care of us. If that's your idea, then you probably really don't know Jesus, because Jesus wants people who love him, who will follow him, and who will serve him. And so Jesus looked through it all, and here's the sequence of events as we look at all four Gospels. First of all, Matthew 14. Jesus told his disciples to get in a boat and go before him to the other side of the sea. get on a ship or boat and go back across the Galilee. And then it says in Matthew 14 verse 23, he sent the multitude away. So he says to his disciples, I'll handle the crowd. You don't have to do that. You go across the ship and I'll send the multitudes away. So he sent the multitudes away. Remember, these are people who said, hey, this is that prophet. We're gonna make him king. We're gonna force him to be king. But this is God they're dealing with. Jesus wasn't gonna let that happen. And so he sent them away. With his authority, he sent them away. And what did Jesus do? He went up into a mountain to pray. He went up into a mountain to pray. Now next week we'll see what happened after he went up in the mountain to pray. But Jesus had just taken care of a big problem. There was not enough. And he proved there is enough if you have Jesus. I wonder, are you facing anything today where you say, there's just not enough? I just need so much. Have you talked to Jesus? Have you depended upon Jesus? Have you trusted Jesus? Have you taken what you have and gave to Jesus, expecting Him to bless because He will? When God sends you through a time when you don't have enough, Maybe he's just preparing you for the provision of his, and that is more than enough, because he always has more than enough. If you haven't trusted Jesus as Savior, you're missing out on so much. To know him personally, to love him, to serve him, and then to be able to spend eternity with him in heaven. Let's pray. Father, thank you today for reminding us of what you did many years ago. Lord, it's so true today that the same principles are still true in our life, and that is, when we don't have enough, Lord, you always do. And I pray that we'll trust you. So bless this message to each heart, and I pray that there's someone here who has never trusted Jesus as their Savior. They'd realize that He loves them. He provided for them by salvation, by dying for them on the cross, and He wants them to receive it. And I pray they will today, we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
