Looking at our world from a theological perspective, this is the Theology Central Podcast. Making theology central. Good morning, everyone. It is Thursday, November the 6th, 2025. It is currently 9.02 a.m. Central Time, and I'm coming to you live from the Theology Central studio located right here in Abilene, Texas.
And this is another episode in our ongoing series, the Sermon Audio Daily, where I turn on this microphone and I talk about what's going on on the Sermon Audio platform. That includes the Sermon Audio website, sermonaudio.com. and the Sermon Audio app, which I believe is entitled Sermons by Sermon Audio. So download the app, check out the website. I'm here to try to be your curator, your guide into the library, the vast library of Sermon Audio, trying to help you find things to listen to, pointing at specific content.
In a sense, thinking of it as a library, and I'm pointing you, go check out those books, or go check out that shelf. And hopefully it's been beneficial. We've been doing this, I don't even know how many episodes we've done now total, but the goal is to try to test this out until the end of 2025. So the rest of November, the rest of December, and then, you know, we will see. I haven't heard much feedback, which is probably an indication that this is another one of my not so great ideas, but at least I feel it's worth the effort. It's worth the time because Sermon Audio is this vast library that I think has all kinds of content that could be beneficial. So I'm gonna do my very best to point people to it, all right?
Now, today it's very simple. On Tuesday, on this podcast, I went live either twice or three times, I think maybe three times, telling everyone about a document that had been released by the Vatican. This document was telling Catholics to no longer refer to Mary as co-redemptrix or co-redeemer or co-mediator, that they should not use that term. Now, the media I think they classified it as a decree. I think ultimately it's like a note and exactly how to classify. I don't know if we've ever completely worked that out, but I ultimately at the last broadcast I did, I gave a. link and the show notes so that you could read the Vatican document for yourself because, I mean, that's ultimately what I need to do. So I spent three episodes talking about it. I didn't go greatly in depth because basically what I wanted to do is tell everyone the document is out, here's how it's being reported, and here is a link to the document from the actual source. So I did all of that, but I told you that I would be paying close attention to sermon audio to see when people start talking about it.
And so far, I thought Albert Moeller would be talking about it on his program, The Briefing. So far, it's all been politics, politics, politics, politics. Albert Moeller's covering the political front, and so if you agree with his political takes, then go listen to Albert Moeller. But I knew someone would talk about it. So today, I opened up the Sermon Audio website. Opened up the Sermon Audio website. In fact, I'm going there right now. If you go to the Sermon Audio website, sermonaudio.com, and you'll look down, you'll see Top Sermons. And if you click on top sermons, look what you have. Number one, Dr. James White with over 1,300 plays. And guess what? He has an episode where he covers the document. So I'm going to play a little bit of this, and I want you right now, just go to sermonaudio. com, go to Top Sermons, click the top sermon, because it's, and I know it's really a podcast episode, but it's all about the Vatican releasing the document. And you can hear his particular take on the situation. Whether you agree or disagree, that's irrelevant. It's someone talking about the situation, And well, I want you to check it out.
So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to hit play. We'll listen to just kind of a little preview of it. And then I want you to go download it and hear everything he has to say. So here we go.
Well, greetings, welcome to The Dividing Line. We are going to be on top of current events today. When you only do two programs, sometimes three a week, sometimes you're talking about stuff that everybody else has already stopped talking about by the time you get to it. Especially if it happens on a Friday or something, we don't get to it until Tuesday.
We mentioned last week, maybe even the week before, that the announcement was going around that there was a paper, a document, a statement from the Vatican, a doctrinal statement coming out today. And so I knew that by the time we got up here in the United States, the contents of that document would have been made available. And there are a bunch of people speculating, hoping that this would be a definition of the fifth Marian dogma.
Believe me, when stuff like that is going to be defined, like when the bodily assumption of Mary was defined, everybody knew it was coming. It wasn't a surprise. It wasn't described as a doctrinal statement or something like that. So I was skeptical that it would be something that big, but boy, there were a lot of Roman Catholics hoping it would be.
Why? Because millions and millions and millions of petitions have been turned in the Vatican over the past 40 years, calling for the definition of the fifth Marian dogma, which as argued, I know the cover of this looks Um, this is, um, interesting. Yeah. Oh, interesting. Well, okay. Here. I had forgotten this. This is a book that I used in writing, uh, Mary, another redeemer 26 years ago. And right up front, there are a tear out petition cards you can send, um, to, His Holiness Pope John Paul II, Città del Vaticano, Roma, Italy. And you do need to provide your own postage.
Your Holiness, with filial love, we the faithful wish to humbly petition you, the Vicar of Christ, to solemnly define as Christian dogma the Church's constant teaching on Mary's co-redemptive role with Christ, the Redeemer of humanity. It is our belief that such a definition will bring to light the whole truth about Mary, daughter of the Father, mother of the Son, spouse of the Spirit, and mother of the Church. Therefore, it is our prayer that the Holy Spirit will guide you, Holy Father, to define and proclaim the Blessed Virgin Mary as co-redemptrix, mediatrix of all graces, and advocate for the people of God."
So there's the definition. There's what the fifth Marian dogma is. Proclaim to define and proclaim. So, in other words, use your infallible authority, which is almost never been used, to proclaim the Blessed Virgin Mary as co-redemptrix, mediatrix of all graces, and advocate for the people of God.
Now, millions of these have been turned in. This book Dedicated, John Paul II, is by Mark Miravalli. Mark Miravalli, to my knowledge, and this has the Nihil Abstadt and the Imprimatur as well, interestingly enough, continues to teach at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and is full professor of theology there. As you can see, I Read it well, it's thoroughly marked. Interesting, just reading, wow. Well, yeah, this is, I'm sorry, Mary, Co-Redemptrix Mediatrix Advocate, that's the title of the book or the booklet.
So there's James White talking about it. I want you to go listen to everything he has to say in regards to it. He's obviously done a lot of writing and debating and discussing Catholicism. I don't even know how many years. It feels like I've been listening to him to discuss some of these issues for Feels like 30 years. It feels like a good portion of my entire adult life. So go listen to what he has to say about it. He should offer some great insight.
And again, the Vatican released a document, the name of that document, is Mater Populi Fidelis, and he will do much better with the Latin than I will, but Mater Populi Fidelis, and that document states, no, you're not to refer to Mary as co-redemptrix, co-mediator, co-redeemer. You're not to do that. Now they do say in the document that other titles are okay, which you may have problems with even some of those other titles. But to me, it's still a big deal that after all of these years, them being petitioned to define as a dogma, make it a dogma that Mary is co-redeemer, co-redemptrix, that the Catholic Church has said no.
Now, from my understanding, Pope John Paul II was in favor of it. Pope Benedict XVI Pope Francis and now Pope Leo, they were all opposed to it. And clearly now the Vatican is like, you know what, we're going to just put an end to this and stop this. And I don't know what happens moving forward. To me, it's pretty significant.
And well, I want you today for Sermon Audio Daily. I mean, this one, I'm not taking you deep into the library. We just walked through the door. the most popular thing, it's right there. But this is a good example of where the top sermon list is very beneficial, right? Because it's right there at the top. So this is helpful. As much as I'm not, I've offered some criticism of the top sermon list, right? It's the same people over and over and over. And once again, it's the same, I mean, Dr. White's all over it. So it's still the same people, but in this particular case, it gave me easy access to it. I wanted to know, is anyone else going to talk about this document? Is anyone else going to cover it? And I open up Top Sermons, and at the very top, there it is. One, I'm glad that it's number one. That shows people are listening and talking about it. And that's great.
So go check it out for the Sermon Audio Daily today. Check out Dr. James White from The Dividing Line. talking about Mater Populi Fidelis and this document released by the Vatican which states that Catholics are no longer to refer to Mary as co-redemptrix, co-redeemer, co-mediator, those specific titles. And here we'll talk about all of the details. I already provided a link to you to the Vatican document You should read the document yourself. Someone who checked out one of my podcasts and checked out the document, they said the document is kind of like inside baseball. It's like Catholics talking to Catholics because there is a lot of, you know, it's basically 80 paragraphs long. There's a lot there to go through. Dr. James White spends about an hour I don't know how much of the document he works through, but it's probably the best. I'm assuming he probably provides the best oversight and critique that anybody has provided so far on the Sermon Audio website. So check it out.
And well, there's your Sermon Audio Daily for today. Dr. James White talking about the document that the Vatican released. Go download it. Go listen to it now. It's already got over 1,300 downloads. Let's get it to well over 2,000 because it's a valuable source of information, and I'm glad that it's there. Again, whether you agree or disagree, he's He's using technology to get a discussion about it, and that is awesome. So check it out, all right?
Thanks for listening. Everyone have a great day. And oh, I will put a link to Dr. White's message or his podcast episode in the show notes here. Not that you really need it. All you have to do right now is go to sermonaudio.com and go to the number one sermon. But we know that that top sermon will change. So, you know, three weeks from now when people listen to me, if you're going to find it, well, then I need to provide a link. So there will be a link to the episode in the show notes.
Thanks for listening. Everyone have a great day. God bless.
