We are in the book of Daniel, and I'll invite you to take the Word of God, your copy of the Scriptures, open to Daniel chapter 2, and we've worked our way down to verse 46 of this particular chapter. It's one of the longer chapters in the book of Daniel. So, we're going to pick up our study here this morning and continue to see what Daniel reveals and unfolds for us today. So, Daniel chapter 2, and we'll begin reading in verse 46 this morning. As usual, I'll ask those who are willing and able to stand with me, please, as we share together the reading of the Holy Word of God. Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and did homage to Daniel, and gave orders to present to him an offering and fragrant incense. The king answered Daniel and said, Surely your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of lords, and a revealer of mysteries, since you have been able to reveal this mystery. Then the king promoted Daniel, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief perfect over all the wise men of Babylon. And Daniel made requests of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the administration of the province of Babylon, while Daniel was at the king's court. Heavenly Father, we want to come before you. We want to ask your blessings upon our gathering together here this morning. We've not gathered as any other club or as any other institution, but rather we've gathered here as the body of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. on this earth at this time in this place in Springdale. Father, we pray that you would bless us today, bless us powerfully with your presence. We need you to reveal yourself to us through your Word and through its truth. We beg of you, Heavenly Father, to be patient with us as we strive to mold our lives after that of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I pray, Holy Father, that you'll help us to be Daniels. Bold, courageous, unafraid, fearing God and not fearing men. I pray, Heavenly Father, that as we leave this house this morning, as we go out into the world, that you will speak to us through the example of Daniel. You've put this book in here for our study and for our admonition and for our encouragement. So I pray, Heavenly Father, that you would help us to be faithful like Daniel in all circumstances, in all situations of life. Help us to fear God, for therein is the beginning of wisdom. And we need that wisdom today to navigate this world in which we live with all of its sinfulness and with all of its temptations. God, help us to know you this morning in a very real way. May you have your complete will in our lives. In these things I pray in the name of our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. So I think just about every one of us at one time or another have been surprised by things that have happened to us or happened before us. We've all been stunned. You know, something unexpected happens and it stuns you for a moment and for a moment you're just kind of dazed and then you realize what's happening and then you jump into action, right? So a couple of weeks ago, Thad and I were driving down the road and we got to the intersection of 265 and Weddington, not Weddington, what is it? Emma and, good, Lans, where is the airport? Emma or Robinson. 265. And? Fort Worth. Fort Worth. Fort Westville. No, where the airport is. Emma or Robinson. Is it Robinson? Either one. Emma, which is? Fort Smith and Robinson are the same. Yeah, but we were on Old Wire Road. And then Huntsville, Old Wire Road to Huntsville. Right there. Good lands. Is that Robinson? No, that's Old Wire Road. Huh? And Huntsville, that intersection. Right there, where the airport is. You know where the airport is? That's where we were. Huh? It's not? Where is it? Let's just say you were close to the north end of the airport. Were you close to the Jones Center? Yes. That would be Emma. That's Emma? Yes. No it's not. It's Emma. Are you kidding? Okay, anyhow. We were at that intersection where the airport is. Are you sure? That doesn't seem right. So we're here at the end of the airport, right? And we're looking south on whatever road we're on. And we see a cop car with his blue lights on. Okay. And he's behind this black SUV. And so we're watching. We're just kind of there. We're on the front row. First one's there at the intersection where we were. And all of a sudden, this SUV, this guy hits the gas pedal. Boom. He takes off in a terror, but he's losing control of his car. Okay. And then it looks like It looks like he's going to try to make a U-turn, which is even worse for him. So he's kind of sliding around, and the back of his car hits the curb. And I don't know if the car dies, the guy in the driver's seat kills the car. I don't know what happens. But anyhow, the car stops. The guy on the passenger side bails out of the car. We're sitting here watching this. He bails out of the car, and he's headed toward the runway of the airport, but there's that fence there. And so this cop jumps out of his car, and he's chasing after him. The guy with the hood jumps over the fence, falls down, and the cop is in better shape than he is, and he's catching up with him. But the guy gets up, and he starts running more toward the runway. All of a sudden, he changes his mind, and he turns around, and he starts coming north. And he's coming right toward us. And we're watching this cop and he's gaining ground on him, but the guy gets right in front of us at the fence, he jumps the fence, and he doesn't quite make it on his feet when he gets to the other side of the fence. So he's laying on the ground, the cop jumps the fence, pulls out his taser, and starts tasing him. Boom. Just like that. Well, I'm sitting there and I'm thinking, if this guy starts running down the road, I'm going to take my car and I'm going to block him off so the cop can get him. And Thad's got his hand on the seatbelt because he's going to pull the seatbelt off and he's going to jump out there and catch this guy. So we're cops. We're ready for action. We got this thing figured out, what we're going to do, and how we're going to help this guy. It's like one of those things you see on TV, except it's live. You're watching this thing unfold right before you, and at the time it's happening, you're going, is this real? Is this actually happening right in front of me? I got a front row seat to a YouTube cop video, you know? And yeah, so anyhow, there's some other guys, you know, one guy pulls over in his truck and gets in front of another guy, jumps out of his truck, and so, you know, the cop's got some help if he needs it, but he doesn't need it. You know, so, but you're, at the first, at first you're going, is this real? Is this happening? And it is. And so we're looking at a scene this morning where the most powerful man on the face of the earth, King Nebuchadnezzar, is literally falling on his face before Daniel. And you're going, what is happening here? The Nebuchadnezzar, the ruler of the known earth at that particular time, that kingdom, literally on his face before Daniel it's happening right before our very eyes and then he says in verse 46 then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face then Now, I'm not going to preach a whole sermon on the word then, but the word then plays an important role in what's happening here. Aramaic, it's an Aramaic adverb, and it has a prefix on it. If you just translate it, you could translate it then or afterwards or at the same time. But it has this prefix attached to it, which intensifies the meaning of the word. And so you could better translate the word immediately immediately yeah this is an intense immediate reaction by the king so it's been a couple of weeks since we've been here we've had some some you know some new years and some thanks or some christmas and so what i'm going to do is i'm going to do a real quick review to bring you up to speed on what's actually going on here so the king nebuchadnezzar had a dream And he didn't know the meaning of the dream. So he goes to his spiritual advisors and he tells them, I want you to tell me what my dream means, but I also want you to tell me what it was. I want you to tell me what my dream, what I dreamt. And so he, the spiritual advisors basically get to the point where they tell Nebuchadnezzar, there's no way anybody could do that. No one has ever asked a king to do what you're asking us to do. Only a God could possibly tell you what you dreamt. We can't do it. The king says, well, that's fine with me. That's fine with me. You're all dead men. I'm going to rip you apart from limb to limb. I'm going to go to your house, your property. I'm going to destroy your property. You are walking dead men. You're going to die. Then Israel's God, Jehovah, jumps into the picture. And all of a sudden, he's looking in the eyes of this 20-year-old guy, 20 years old, standing before Nebuchadnezzar, and he is explaining to Nebuchadnezzar what he dreamt. And so, long story short, he says, hey, look, Nebuchadnezzar, you're the greatest king that's ever going to live on the face of the earth. You have all power and authority. Your kingdom is the greatest of all kingdoms. And then he says, there's going to be five more kingdoms. You're going to be followed by the Medo-Persian kingdom, the Greek kingdom, the Roman kingdom, the revived Roman kingdom, and then the kingdom of God. So, Nebuchadnezzar is listening to what Daniel is saying here. He hears this prophecy. And what happens? He knows in his heart of hearts that what Daniel told him is true. There's no doubt in his heart that he just heard the truth. Some of you know who Rush Limbaugh is. He was a conservative talk show host. He died in 2021 from lung cancer. But he made two lists of what he called 35 undeniable truths. Two lists of 35 undeniable truths. Now, I'm not going to probably agree with that. I know I'm not going to agree. I've read them. I'm not going to agree with everything that he said on those lists. But nonetheless, there were some things he said that were absolutely and completely undeniable that I agree with. Rule number three, peace does not mean the elimination of nuclear power. I agree with that. Rule number 20, there is a God. I think that's pretty undeniable. Rule number 21, abortion is wrong. These are basic truths of life. I mean, only a fool would say, there's no such thing as gravity, right? And go off and jump off a building. That's foolish. I don't believe in gravity. Winston Churchill said, truth is inconvertible. Malice may attack it. Ignorance may deride it. But in the end, There it is. You know, there are some things that you know are true when you hear them. You may not like the truth. The truth may offend you. The truth may hurt your feelings. But whatever it is, it's true. There it is. It's true. The Bible says, For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword. When it talks about the word of God, you understand that it is talking about the truth of God. The word of God and the truth of God are interchangeable. So he says here, The word of God, or the truth of God, is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit of the intentions and to able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. This is what truth does. This is what the word of God does. God's truth pierces and divides the soul and between the soul and spirit and judges the thoughts and intentions of the hearts. And he wasn't just talking about those of us who were saved. He's not just talking about what the power of the truth in our lives. He's talking about the power of the truth of the word of God, period. whether you're lost or whether you're safe. Listen, God put into the heart of every single human being the capacity to recognize the truth. If that were not so, if that were not so, then Jesus would have not said, go ye into the world and make disciples. Every man has within him a God-given degree or capacity to understand the truth when he hears it. Otherwise God would not have told us to go into the world to every nation and share the gospel if men were incapable of discerning the truth of God. The motivation for us sharing the gospel when we leave this building today is we leave this building with a complete confidence that when we share the gospel, people will understand it. That doesn't mean they're going to agree. Doesn't mean they're going to like it. Doesn't mean they're going to go along with us. It doesn't mean any of that stuff. But I'm telling you, God has put it in their hearts. Denying the truth doesn't mean that they don't know the truth. Denying the truth just because you don't know the truth doesn't mean that you're going to admit it. You can know the truth and not admit it. People will disagree with you, they may argue with you, they may get mad at you, and they may even kill you. But in their hearts of hearts, when you present the gospel, they know the truth. Nebuchadnezzar, on the other hand, as our example this morning, heard the truth. And when he heard the truth, and he recognized the truth, and he did recognize the truth, the Bible tells us what happened next. The Bible tells us that he immediately fell on his face. The acceptance of the truth caused an immediate reaction in Nebuchadnezzar. How do you account for this reaction? How do you account, how do you explain the fact that the world leader, the most powerful man on the face of the earth, fell on his face? How do you explain that? How do you get your head around it? How do you get your thoughts around it? Well, first of all, remember the circumstances, right? Context is king. I've repeated that a thousand times in my ministry. Context is king. So how do you explain this fact here? The presence, the presence of the unknown had been building and building and building in Nebuchadnezzar's heart for days. He was desperately searching for answers. He tried every avenue he could. He asked his spiritual advisors to help him. They could not. He had not slept for days. We don't know how long he had not slept. But finally, it comes to the point where this 20-year-old kid comes into Nebuchadnezzar and blows open the doors of his understanding, and he's overwhelmed by what he hears. This, what Nebuchadnezzar did here, admits the truth, accepts the truth. This is what it means when it says the Word of God pierces your soul and spirit and the thoughts and intentions of your heart. What you're seeing is that principle in action in the life of Nebuchadnezzar. He falls on his face. Obviously, this was an act of worship. So you have to ask yourself, well, what kind of worship was it? You have to be a little more specific here. What kind of worship was this? This was a worship of thanksgiving. Nebuchadnezzar was expressing his thankfulness to Christ to finally understand the meaning of his dream. Just about everybody here has experienced living in darkness of the unknown. I don't know if you've ever sat by the bedside of your child in a hospital or not, but if you've ever sat by the bedside of your child in a hospital not knowing what's going to happen, it's a dark experience. I don't know if you've ever sat next to your parents who were on their deathbeds, you know, or had a serious disease, and you didn't know how this was going to turn out. I don't know if you've ever had a financial reversal that caught you off guard and surprised you. You didn't know how it was going to turn out. There are a lot of things that happen in life that catch us off guard. We don't see the end. We don't see the light at the end of the tunnel, right? And it's a very dark place to be. That's where Nebuchadnezzar was. He was desperate. He was desperate. But you know when a doctor comes in and says, your child's going to live. You know maybe your spouse has said, you know I'm going to leave. I don't want to be in this marriage anymore. I'm out of here. But your spouse comes back and says, you know what? Let's try it again. And when a doctor comes in and says, you know what? It's going to be a tough row to hoe, but your mom is going to live, or your dad is going to live. Maybe you suffered a terrible financial reversal and somebody comes in to help you out. You're relieved. The darkness is lifted. You see light at the end of the tunnel. What do you do? when that happens. Don't you just want to fall on your face and say, thank you God. Praise God! Praise God! And you begin to get your senses together and you begin to thank God, right? You begin to worship God, right? Because He saw you through it. This is where Nebuchadnezzar was. Finally, there was light at the end of the tunnel, and he falls on his face. And he does what he should do and what any sane man would do, and that is begin to praise God. There's an answer. There's an answer. So Nebuchadnezzar is reflecting the power of God's truth. He's freed from the power of the unknown, and he falls on his face in gratitude. God's truth is freeing. God's truth frees us from lies and sorrow and bondage. You may be living in fear. You don't know what the future holds for you, but Jesus promises you that if you will seek the kingdom of God first, all these other things will be taken care of. You don't have to worry about it. Jesus said, but seek ye first the kingdom and its righteousness, right? And all these things will be added to you. I want to take just a second here, and I want to look at that, because it has a bearing on what we're talking about this morning. And I want to clear up exactly what's going on when Jesus said that, seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Jesus is commanding us to take an action. You've got to pay attention to what Jesus is saying here. He's commanding you to get busy. He's commanding you to go to work. This is an action. This is a command. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. That doesn't mean that you're supposed to be sitting on your laurels and wait for God to answer you. No, no, no, no. That's not what's going on here at all. He is saying if you want God to take care of you, then you've got to be going out and actively pursuing the kingdom of God. You can't just sit around and say, oh God, I need some help here, you know. No, you do what's right, you do what's just, you do what is good, you go out and you seek the kingdom of God. And Jesus said, look what, it's going to happen. God's going to take care of you. He's going to provide for you everything that you need. Get up every day. Seek his kingdom. Seek his righteousness. And guess what? God's going to take care of you. It's an action verb here. We embrace God's truth, we embrace God's promises, and we praise Him for it. So, let's go on here. Nixer says that he gave orders to present to him an offering. Now, some people get a little concerned here because it looks like Nebuchadnezzar is worshiping Daniel here at first glance in this verse here, as though he was some kind of a god. And admittedly, I'll tell you the truth, when you first look at this verse by itself, it does look like that the king is kind of worshiping Daniel, that he's offering him to do oblations and make offerings to him. But you go a step further and you look at the context in depth here, And you get the real meaning of what Nebuchadnezzar is doing here. So you go on to the next verse and it says, the king answered Daniel and said, surely your God is a God of God and a Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries since you have been able to reveal this mystery. So you get the context here and you find out what's really going on here. And Nebuchadnezzar well aware that what has happened here is because of the God of Daniel, not Daniel himself. You see, it's not unusual for someone who has given you the truth and sets you free from bondage to elevate and express gratitude toward them. When you get to the New Testament, you remember that Peter took the gospel to Cornelius, right? In the book of Acts. So, Peter takes the gospel to Cornelius, Cornelius hears the gospel, and the result is that Cornelius actually fell down at the feet of Peter. You remember that? And when you get to the book of Revelation, you find out that when an angel came to John and revealed to John God's plan for the earth and the future, that John fell down at the feet of the angel and he actually began to worship the angel. Both Peter and the angel said, no, no, no, no, wait a minute, we're not gone. They deflected the truth to God. And that's exactly what's going on here. He's deflecting toward God. Earlier in Daniel, we could see, we made it clear that God was in control of what Daniel was saying here. We're not going to look at that passage. You can look up for yourself. But anyhow, Daniel wanted to live his... Here's the point. Daniel wanted to live his life in such a way that it reflected God. His obedience to God revealed God. His obedience to God revealed God. Verse 47 proves that when it says that the king knew that Daniel wasn't behind it, but rather God was behind what Daniel was saying. God was working in Daniel. Listen, this is what Jesus taught. Same principle, let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. You see that principle that works here in the Old Testament. We tend to look Daniel and Samuel on some kind of a pedestal and think, well, you know, he was a special guy, and he was in a sense, because he was able to interpret dreams, and we don't walk before kings, and we don't interpret dreams, but the fundamental principle behind what Daniel was doing here is that he simply lived his life in obedience to God, and the result of that, God used him. Principle works in your life and my life, too. Same principle, same principle. He said, the king said, that he began to, you know, he began to glorify God and he called Daniel's God a God of gods and a Lord of lords. So Nebuchadnezzar didn't go so far as to say that he was the only God, right? But he did go so far as to say that, hey, your God is above all gods and your God is Lord of all lords. And so he places Yahweh, Daniel's God, above all other gods and all other kings. God wants to show himself through you. God wants you to reveal that your God is above all other gods. You and I must consciously embrace our identity. That as Jesus said here, let your light shine before men. We must embrace our identity as light bearers. That's what we are. The light that shines in us and through us is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ living in us. And His power being exuded through us. that we might manifest good works. Now here's what you need to understand about that verse that Jesus was talking about there, being enlightened and good works. The good works that God commands us to produce cannot be produced in the power of the flesh. What Jesus is saying here is not anything that a lost man can reproduce. It's impossible for us to do these kind of good works. The light in us is the result of Jesus Christ working in our hearts to produce good works. The world can't fit into that mold. Go back to Galatians chapter 5 and read the good works there, that the Spirit works in our hearts. You cannot. If you think that somehow or another you can read what the Bible wants you to do, and that you can grit your teeth, and you can force yourself to be obedient to God, you are wrong. It cannot be done. Works that give God glory cannot be done in the power of the flesh. That's what religious people do. That's what religious people do. Religious people are imitators of genuine Christianity. At best, that's what they are. Do you feel like that serving Jesus Christ is a burden? Do you think coming to church is a burden? Do you think reading your Bible is a burden? Do you think having personal private time and devotional time is a burden? Do you think sacrificing yourself is a burden? Do you think all those things are burdens? Do you think those things are difficulties? Do you feel like the Christian life is a burden? It's restrictive and it's joyless? Listen to me, if you try to serve Jesus Christ and you do those things that the Bible commands you to do in the power of the flesh, you're not giving God glory. The world is not going to see your good works as good works of God. They're going to elevate you and they're going to glorify you. That's what they're going to do. That's what religious people do. They do things for people to look at them and say, oh my, aren't you a wonderful person? That's not the way that Christian operates. That kind of light, that kind of good works is vain. It's empty at best. You're a Pharisee. You're a hypocrite. Jesus said this. He said, come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy, my burden is light. Does that sound like an oppressed life? Does that sound like a life of misery and oppression? You'll find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy. My burden is light. He was describing what it was like for a genuinely saved person to serve Him. This is a description of our lives as a child of God. The genuine Christian finds serving God to be joyful and serving God to be something easy and to be something light. We find the demands and the laws of God something that we delight in. Here's what the Bible says. David said this. He described it this way. He's talking about the law of God, and the laws of God, and the truths of God. He says, they, these laws, your laws, are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold, sweeter also than honey, and the drippings of the honeycomb. Listen, does that describe your feelings and emotions and desires when it comes to the laws of God. You find them sweet. Serving God, he says, is a sweet thing to do. Now listen, listen, listen, I'm not saying that you're not going to suffer humiliation. I'm not promising you that you're not going to suffer shame, or that property won't be confiscated, or that your family won't be ravaged, or that your family won't be your enemies, or that you won't be rejected. I'm not saying you won't be persecuted. I'm not even saying that you won't even be killed. But I'm saying that all those things are nothing in light of your relationship with God Almighty through Jesus Christ. Matthew 630, my yoke is easy, my burden is light, is not a health, wealth, and prosperity gospel verse. Jesus isn't promising here that life is problem free or that you won't have struggles and problems and difficulty, but he's promising you that when you have those hardships, you will not see them as a hardship. You won't see it that way because your love for God is influencing and God's love for you is influencing you. When Daniel walked in the presence of the most powerful man on the face of the earth, he did so with courage, and he did so with boldness, and he did so with confidence, because he knew he was sharing the truth of God. The light of God's truth was shining through him, and his obedience to God caused the king to fall on his face. That's the kind of power we have today. So, let's do some takeaways, okay? Let's do some takeaways. Number one, we have the truth of God. Just as surely as Daniel Did we do? We need to trust God's Word. We need to believe that it is true. There's nothing truer on the face of the earth than the book that you hold in your hand today. Nothing is more true than the Word of God in your hands. And just as Daniel proclaimed God's truth to the king, we must proclaim it as well with the same courage and boldness. It doesn't mean that everybody's going to respond like Nebuchadnezzar and they're going to fall on their face, you know, and they're going to thank you for sharing the gospel with them. That's not what it means. But they will know that they've heard the truth because God has put that ability and capacity in their hearts. God's judgment would not God's judgment would be unjust if every man did not have the capacity to know the truth when they heard it. Do you understand that? Do you understand what that means? We're light bearers. We are manifesting Jesus Christ through our obedience to Him and as a child of God we are action people. Our obedience to God's truth is what demonstrates to the world what Jesus Christ is like and who He is. Our obedience identifies us as Jesus people. As a genuine child of God, we find our obedience to Jesus Christ to be delightful, folks. If you can't agree with that, if you find that difficult to swallow, and you're having a hard time getting your mind around that, you need to get your relationship with God squared up. The Bible says, but let all who take refuge in you be glad. Let them ever sing for joy. And may you shelter them, that those who love your name may exalt in you. Psalm 5 and verse 11. We're not here to serve the Lord out of fear, but to serve Him with joy. Finally, finally. Nebuchadnezzar responded with an attitude of worship, right? You can't deny that. And he worshipped because he knew that he heard the truth of God. And the same thing is true with every person here. If you're not a child of God, the truth is that you are a sinner, and you know that. And that you're standing under the judgment of God. But I'm here to tell you, God loves you. And His love will not nullify His justice. Matter of fact, He loves justice. He loves His justice. He loves you, but He also loves His justice. Because God is just, He's gonna send you to hell. Because you are a sinner and you've broken His laws and you've offended Him and you're guilty before God. And God cannot nullify His justice and will not nullify His justice for you. Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for you. And He died in your place. I'm going to ask Brother R.D. to come and help us with an invitation to hymn this morning. Jesus was the only one qualified to go to the cross and die for you and pay for your sins and pay for your guilt. He took your sins. He took your guilt on Himself. And then God poured out all of His wrath, every single ounce of judgment that you deserved, every single ounce, He poured out on Jesus. There was nothing left in God As far as your punishment is concerned, it was all on Jesus. He shed His blood and He satisfied the wrath of God in your place. But He requires that you repent. Repent. Turn away. Tell God He's right. You are a sinner. And then put your faith in Him. Trust Him as your personal Savior. I'm going to ask that you stand with me, please. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. It is a time of rejoicing because we've been able to be in your presence. And we've been able to hear your Spirit speak to our hearts, and we've been able to open the Word of God, the truth of God, and allow it to pierce us and change us and challenge us. We need that. We need it so we, everybody here, all of us, me included, perhaps me most of all, to repent of my sin. I still fall short. I still am arrogant and I still am prideful. I still have the lusts of the flesh to contend with all the time. Lord, I pray for greater empowerment, greater truth, to dominate the lies that I believe that cause me to sin. I sin because I believe lies and not the truth. So Father, I pray for those who are here today who have heard the words of truth that you will empower them to be like Daniel, to trust your word. And I pray that you will cause them to be courageous and bold as they live their lives in a world that's in darkness and in fear and in trembling. But we will be different because we have the joy of the Lord in our hearts. And we have nothing to fear. We have nothing to be afraid of. You say, well, what if they threaten to kill me? We rejoice in the fact that we are going home. into the promised, the true promised land.
