Gracious Heavenly Father, we thank Thee this Lord's Day evening for the privilege which is ours of bowing in Thy holy presence. We thank Thee for all that Thou hast been to us as a church and as the redeemed people of God. We thank Thee for the saving shafts of gospel light that entered our depraved and darkened souls and showed us our lost and undone condition. led us to receive the Savior and to be washed in the blood of the everlasting covenant and to be sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. We bless Thee that Thou hast led us carefully and wonderfully and joyfully ever since we were born again. even thy scourges were for our blessing, and our sicknesses were to our sanctification. We bless thee for every cross that thou hast called us to bear. We bless thee for every bit of shame that has been fastened upon us as we have walked the narrow path of Christian testimony. We thank thee for what thou hast been to us as a church. We bless Thee for the great signs of blessing down the road. We thank Thee for the numbers that came. It was noise abroad that Jesus was in the house. Thank Thee for the hundreds and thousands of souls that have come to Jesus Christ. and have been born again of the Spirit of God. We thank Thee that the witness of this church has gone to the very ends of the earth, and its testimony is known to the four corners of the globe. We thank Thee for our sojourn in the coalman's mission during the enlargement of our own church building. We thank Thee for the souls that were saved in that hall, and for the joy of the Lord and His presence that filled the house. We thank Thee for our coming back to our own building, for the day that we opened it, for these galleries that were packed with men and women, and for the times of blessing that we have had as we have sown this seed and preached the incorruptible Word. O Lord, we bless Thee that Thou hast brought us into a large place that the lines have fallen unto us in pleasant places. We have a goodly heritage. We bless thee for the Ulster Hall, for the great memories we have of great readings. So save God's people, bless, and attest the money for truth. We thank the Lord God for our soldiers in the prison, and wicked man devised that we should be imprisoned for Christ's gospel preaching, and because we refused to bow the knee to the ecumenical appeal, we thank the Lord God for the blessing that came through that imprisonment, for the friends that Him to hear the gospel and for the many that were saved because of Brother Foster and by my own testimony in that deal. O Lord, we thank Thee for this house in which we stand. We thank Thee that the work of Thy goodness has become the arm of Thy strength. will complete. I promise it, yea and amen. I'm never thus orphaned yet. We thank Thee our God and Father this night for the day that we cut the sod here and we bless Thee for the day when we laid the foundation stones. And now we have occupied this unfinished building, and we are having this gospel service for thy glory, and for thy honor, and for thy praise. O God, visit us with revival, this first meeting in this place. that the glory of the Lord will fill the house, that great blessing will come upon us, and many souls shall be saved for the honor and the glory of thy great name. So, Lord, be with us and bless us abundantly. Defeat the devil and the powers of darkness. Let the word of God be preached in this place. And if ever a man should come to this house, he knows not Jesus Christ. who is unfaithful to the crown rights of the Saviour. Lord, bless them from the pulpit and bless this building and make it a place of hissing. Let the glory of the Lord be here. Let the word of God be preached here. Let the martyrs' faith be proclaimed here. Let this be a citadel of protestant truth. and primal Christianity, a monument of the twentieth century against the ecumenical movement and the deceptions of darkness and degradation of potpourri. Our God be upon us, now we pray for Jesus' sake and the people of God's sake. Amen. We are so delighted I wonder, could we get these folks here to move, please, over a bit farther? There's a lot of people trying to get in. Thank you very much. That's right. Be obedient. Do what your mommy tells you. Move over. That's lovely. Thank you very much. Yes, all these folks would like to get in. There's plenty of room still over here at this left-hand side, if you'll just move over this way. That's right. Thank you very much. We're very delighted to have her sister, Miss Healsley, with us, and she's going to sing for us now. God bless you, sister. When the cold breath of sorrow blights the joy, Let us trust in our Father on this day. There is gladness, no wintry grief despise, In the land where the rose In the land where the roses never fade, Where no sin, neither sorrow can invade, We shall meet our loved ones there, An eternal glory sure in the land where the roses never fade. When our hope for life leaps before the blast, We should never be troubled nor afraid, For in Jesus we'll guard our home at last, In the land where the roses never In the land where the roses never fade, Where no sin, neither sorrow come in vain, We shall meet our loved ones there, and eternal glory share in the land where the roses never fade. Working on, trusty only in His love, Let all hope on our Savior still be said, For we know we shall see His face above, In the land where the roses never fade, In the land where the roses never fade, Where no sin, neither sorrow, We shall meet our loved ones there And in turn our glory share In the land where the roses never We'll stand to worship and let's really sing. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind but now I see. Those gracious thoughts I hard to fear, And praise my fear freely. O gracious day, that grace so fair, They are, I first believe. Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come. It is grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. Let's really sing. Through many dangers, trials, and snares, I have already come. Keep straight that road which takes us home, And grace will lead me home. He hath swept his arm, that way shall fail, and mortal life shall cease. I shall for that This is the daylight of joy and peace. When I've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, I've no less time to sing as praise than when I first begun. Let's sing that verse. For when I've been there ten thousand years bright shining as the sun, I've no less time to sing His praise than when I first begun. Amen. seeking to constate that Christ used in His first and last sermon. And if you turn with me to Matthew chapter 4 and verse 17, you will read there that Jesus began to preach and to say repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And then if you turn over with me to Luke's Gospel chapter 3 and verse 27, his final word to the apostles was this, that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem. You will notice that Christ's first and last sermon had a common theme and the subject of His first And last sermon was the theme of repentance. And I would propose, my brethren and sisters in Christ, that the great theme of the preaching in this house will be the theme of repentance. This is the great hour when this theme needs to be proclaimed with comfort blasts from one end of the providence to the other. There needs to be the preaching of repentance. Those responsible for these microphones, I wish you would come and take this sing item. Can you do anything about that, Jim Boyle? I don't want to be singing, I'm trying to preach. And they might think that I was trying to outbid Miss Heasley in the singing. You put it down a bit. Okay, thank you. Thank you very much. That's a bit better, I think. When I get going, I'll not need the loudspeakers anyway. Thank you very much. So I believe that this is the great thing that we need to emphasize and this is the great thing we need to declare. So I want very simply to bring before you this evening the great scriptural gospel of repentance. And I want to preach this message under four heads. I want to talk about the commencement of repentance and I want to speak about the characteristics of repentance. And I want to speak of the company of repentance, because repentance doesn't come alone. It is accompanied with our spiritual gifts and spiritual graces. And then last of all, I want to bring the challenge of the command of repentance. So we are going to talk about the commencement of repentance, the characteristics of repentance, the command of repentance, and the company of repentance. You know some people think that repentance has to do with the Old Testament economy and with the dispensation of the law. And when a preacher comes and preaches the doctrine of repentance, they say, oh he is a preacher of the law. when I turn over in the Old Testament Scriptures to that terrible and awful sight of Sinai's mountain. There is not one mention at the giving of the law concerning repentance. The law says, the soul that sinneth, it shall die. The law says, he that doeth these things shall live in them. But there's not one mention at Sinai or in the final precepts of God's law concerning repentance. You know why? Repentance, friend, is by the grace of God, and by the grace of God alone. Repentance is of gospel parenting. Repentance is one of the great keynotes of the gospel of grace. And let me say this evening in this service that you and I who are saved, we did not repent because of the threatening of the law. But praise God we repented because of the grace and sovereignty of God. Let's get this clear in our heart. And if inside these walls Men and women are going to be wonderfully and gloriously and eternally saved! It's going to be by the grace of God alone! It's not going to be by the energy of the preacher. It's not going to be by the eloquence from the pulpit. It's not going to be by the harmony of the singing. It's not going to be even by the fluency of our prayers or by our zeal for the Lord. It's going to be the grace of God and the grace of God alone that will originate repentance in the hearts of man. I'm glad that this ministry does not depend on human strength. I'm glad this evening that this ministry does not depend on human talent. I'm glad that the success of this ministry is not with man. Praise God, our success is with the faithfulness and the unfeelingness of our wonderful God. And I believe that as this doctrine of repentance is preached here, there shall be a commencement and a continuation, and please God, a glorious conservation and conclusion of the mighty, overcoming, supernatural face of God and the lives of men, changing them, transforming them, reconciling them, and praise God, sealing them forever. This is the gospel that we're going to preach. Boy, I'm glad we're not coming with a modernist textbook. I'm glad we're not looking. for some old professor who's half in the grave and half out of it to tell us what we should preach. I'm glad we're not depending upon silly bits of ritual, on men dressing up like grandmothers and not knowing where to go and calling themselves fathers. I'm glad we're not depending on that in the ministry of this church. This house will be built As he hosts her, the grace of God shall be magnified. And every member that shall sit down at the Lord's table and join with us in communion, membership of this church, will be a monument of triumph and grace in that person's life. I thank God our confidence is in the Lord. I will go through of the Lord's with us. If we were left to ourselves, we would feel it. You know, when we come up here and thought this poverty, people said we would never pay for it. Well, praise God, it's paid for. And then people say, they'll never dig this up. Well, we dug this up. And then people said we couldn't even pay for the foundation stones. Neither we could, but the Lord paid for them. And then they said when they get the steel work up, they'll have to stop, but the steel work's up. And then they said when they get some of the bricks laid, they'll have to quit. Thank God all the bricks are almost laid. When they get the roof on, they'll say they'll have to stop. There'll be no stopping of this work if God's blessing is upon us. You can't stop the work of God. You could have soon stopped the rising sun with a lollipop stick. has stopped the work of God. Eucharist and stop, when the Agra falls with the baby's teaspoon, has stopped the work of God. If God is in this work, it shall prosper. And brethren, God will be with us as we are faithful to Him. And by God's grace I bow before you. As God helps me, I'm going to be faithful to Jesus Christ. And if God permits me to occupy this pulpit, whether it be long or short, by God's grace I'm going to preach this book with all the strength that God can give. And dear help the papists and the modernists and the whole bunch of them. We're going to shoot Put the gospel orals right into the hearts of the king's enemies without fear or fever. There's one man who says amen, so I'm in good company. Amen. So the commencement of repentance, it's the grace of God. It's of gospel parenting. It's the grace of God. I remember as a boy sitting in a children's service, my mother was the speaker, and she spoke upon a great text. In John's Gospel, chapter 10, I am the good shepherd, the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. I was only a tiny child, but that text of scripture penetrated my heart. And God touched my life. And after that service, I knelt down at the second pew on the right hand side as you enter that church building in Palomino. And I asked God that night to save me. And God did it. And the work was done. Who saved me? God saved me. Who kept me? God kept me. Who will keep me? God will keep me. Who will bring me safe through many dangers, toils and snares, to the end of the road? Praise God, the mighty grace of God will do it all. This is the gospel that we are preaching. I wouldn't go round the corner to introduce you to free Presbyterianism, but I would go round the world to introduce you to my Savior and my Lord. We're going to preach the commencement of repentance by the grace of God in the hearts of sinners. Let's look at the characteristics of repentance. How do I know that I have truly repented? There are four ingredients to true repentance. First of all, repentance brings a revelation. It brings a revelation of man's hopeless, lost, hell deserving condition before his eyes. Before a man repents he thinks he is alright. He goes to church with the Bible under his arm. And he looks around him and he says, I'm a fine fellow. He gets elected on to the session of the church. And he thinks he's finer still. And he presides over the Lord's table and gives out the elements. And he says, who is like me? I was preaching some time ago down in the county Tyrone among the bushes. And as I was preaching there, and the place where I was preaching emptied out, there was a man came out the eye. And I knew I had been preaching since I was 16. And I've learned a few things. And I knew that man was coming for me. And I knew he wasn't coming to put his arms round me. I knew he was coming for a real big round. I saw it in his eyes. So I put one foot forward and the other back. And I said, well, when he comes, I'll be here for him. So he came up. And he said, how dare you preach the way you'll preach tonight. I said, who are you? He said, I'm an elder in the Irish Presbyterian Church. I said, well, we'll not hold that against you, but it will not help you too much. He said, I never heard the like of the ranting way that you preached tonight. He said, you actually said that man could go to church and say their prayers and take communion and be an elder in the church and preach from the pulpit and go to hell. I said, no, I didn't say that. I said, the Bible said it! God said it! He started to blink then. So when I got him blinking, I felt I should put the sword right through the ribs. So I started to probe him with the Word of God. He said, Mr. Peasley, if you're right, my minister's a liar. Well, I said, I'm not saying I'm right, but this Bible's right. And that night God gave that elder, unconverted, unregenerate as he was, a revelation of himself. And he says, well if what you say is true, then I am guilty by rights, but only for hell. I said, that's exactly what the Bible says. Well he says, I better get sea. I said, that's right. So he knelt down and he got sea. He says, I'm going for the minister. He says, you get him out of bed, the lazy rascal, tomorrow morning. And before the minister was out of bed, he was at the door. And the minister came down, sleepy eyed, and he looked at him, he says, what do you want? He says, I want you. He says, I got sealed at Pearsley's mission last night, and I want a few words with you. And he really went for that unconverted clergyman that didn't tell him the truth? He played cards with him, he swore with him, he drunk with him, and he would have taken him to hell. Yes, sir. I want to tell you this evening, friend, that when repentance works in man's heart, he gets a revelation of his wickedness, of his sinfulness, and he's a filthy, vile, reptile fed only for hell. You meet a man that thinks he's a wonderful person, but has never repented. But my, when God shows you yourself, you're not looking at anybody else. You're not saying, Mrs. So-and-so is a lot worse than me. You're saying, Oh God, I'm a downright sinner fit only for the darkness of a lost eternity. When God shows you yourself, you're not looking at anybody else. You're not saying, Mrs. So-and-so is a lot worse than me. You're saying, Oh God, I'm a downright sinner fit only for the darkness of a lost eternity. Some years ago, I had an evangelistic campaign in the town of Lisbon, in the Orange Hall, in Railway Street. One evening, two ladies came, over 70 years of age. Well, her a church woman the way. And I took all the pressure of their sons to get them to the service. And before the service, the two boys came in to me, they were grown men, married men, and they said, we've got our mothers here. But Mr. Peasley, these mothers of ours are the best mothers in the world, but they think that through the church they're going to get to heaven. And I confess that that night I preached for the souls of those two women. And when I made the appeal, both of them, silver-haired old ladies that stood up, and they said, we're going to be saved tonight. We took them down to the little room and had a talk with them. And they confessed, they said, as you preached tonight, we saw ourselves as we were. We're lost! We're religious, but lost! Thank God the Lord saved them. They're both in the glory land. I was talking to one of their sons, even this week, and he was reminding me of it. Praise God, they're in the glory land tonight. They got a revelation of themselves. So don't think you're a decent person, a respectable person, a nice person, for you're not, friend. From the sole of the foot to the crown of the head, there's no sound that's in you. A revelation, that's the first thing. Secondly, Repentance is a resignation. The man resigns from all the efforts that he makes to save himself. You know, some people think they'll be able to save themselves. So they'll read a wee bit of the Bible and they'll say a prayer. and they'll go to church, and they'll attend the prayer meeting, and they'll take communion, they'll teach a Sunday school class, they'll sing in the choir, and they'll become active in the service of the church. But my friend, repentance is a resignation. The man that repents resigns from every act of self-righteousness. He doesn't trust in his baptism. He doesn't trust in his communion. He doesn't trust in the church. He doesn't trust in his prayers. He doesn't trust in his righteousness, in his honesty, in his morality, in his decency, in his charity. He resigns a lot. And he says, my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest for Him, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. I want to tell you the man that has repented has had a resignation. He's finished with working. The Romanists say salvation is all doing. As an evangelical Protestant, I say salvation is all done. It's finished. Jesus paid it off. So the second ingredient of repentance is resignation. The third ingredient of repentance is repudiation. The man that repents, he says no forever to the old life. The man that truly repents says no forever to the old sins. The man that really repents says no forever to the old companion. Here is the language of the man that has repented. My all companions fare ye well. I will not go with you to hell. I mean with Jesus all to dwell. Will you come? Will you come? Yes, he's finished. He has said no to the all companions. Have you repudiated sin tonight? Or does sin still bind you, and grip you, and control you, and ensnare you, and enchain you, and imprison you, and incarcerate you? Thank God for men here, the ones were congregs, but there was a night when they took the last pint of booze forever. And they said, go to booze forever. There were people here that were gamblers, but thank God their gambling days are over forever. There were people here who were by sinners, steeped in the darkest tunnels of sin. But one night, God saved them. And it was the final night of sin and the start of a new life with Jesus Christ. Some time ago, a man came to my home. He said to me, Mr. Paisley, I've come from prison. And he said, I was told that I could be helped if I came and saw you. I said, friend, I cannot help you. But I said, I'll tell you what I can do. I can introduce you to a person who can really and truly and gloriously help you. And I said, his name is Jesus. Oh, he said, I don't want to be deceived. I want to get a job. I want to make good. Well, I said, friend, I can do nothing for you. Nice to meet you. Goodbye. And I showed him out of the house. Four weeks later, my phone rang, and the man was on the end of the line, and he said, I want to see. I said, all right, come up. And he came up, and he said to me, I'm going to trust Jesus Christ. I said, you should have done that four weeks ago. He said, I know that, but I have learned. And I can't go on without Christ. I'm finished with the old life. I'm finished with the old path. I'm finished with the old way of living. And right now, I'm going to take Christ. And he knelt down, and he repudiated the old, and praise God, God saved him. Do you know that man is on the way to be a very successful businessman in one of the local towns in this province? I called some time ago in his home. And that man came out of prison. He was a bankrupt. He paid his debts. He was discharged. He started business. And he's going on by leaps and bounds today. And he said to me, Mr. Pearsley, wasn't it a great day when I met Christ and finished once and for all and forever with the old life? What a day! May God grant that you'll finish tonight forever with the old life of sin. It'll drag you down. It'll soil your soul. It'll scar your body. It'll darken your mind. And friend, it'll damn you in hell forevermore. Repudiation. And last of all, the last character of repentance is regeneration. Ah, yes. The man's made the new creature. Do you ever see a man made a new creature? I've seen it over and over again. I've seen the dark shadow coming off the face. I've seen the bitterness drain from the soul. I've seen the darkness taken away. And I've seen a man changed, transformed, redeemed, saved. And that's what I'm preaching for tonight, that you might have this great experience in your heart. What an experience is this, to be regenerated by the Spirit of God. These are the four marks of true repentance. First of all, a revelation. Secondly, a resignation. Thirdly, a repudiation. And finally, a regeneration. God grant that these marks will be found in you. And then let me tell you the company that repentants keep. It doesn't come alone. When a man repents, praise God he believes. Someone has asked the question, what comes first, faith or repentance? Mr. Tinsley, Hugh Tinsley, asked me that question in a debate many years ago. He said, would Mr. Paisley tell me what comes first, faith or repentance? I said, would Mr. Tinsley tell me who came through the door first, Hugh or Tinsley? Who came through the door first? I want to tell you they both come together. What comes first, the beating of the heart or the circulation of the blood? They both come together. And when a man repents, prays God, he believes the Gospel. What is it to believe on Jesus? To believe on Jesus is to receive Jesus. That's what it is. I remember the day that I saw that as a young boy from the woods. And if I had received Christ, and I had believed on Him, I was worried in case I hadn't believed properly. I was worried in case I hadn't believed effectively. I was worried in case I hadn't believed publicly. And then that great verse, John 1 and 12, flashed across my youthful heart. For as many as received Him, to them give me power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in His name. The man that has received Christ, praise God, he has believed in Jesus. See it? I'll tell you what else comes. Praise God, confession comes. But a man believes in Jesus. He confesses Christ. In our old church, one Lord's Day, a dear man came to Christ. He was really saved. And you know that man never publicly confessed Christ until a year after the day he was saved. He's one of my church members, member of my committee now. I'll not mention his name, although he wouldn't care if I did mention his name. And he came out a year after, and he said to me, Mr. Peasley, a year ago I was saved in this church, and I've never publicly confessed Christ. So I said, let's do it now. He says, where will we do it? He says, I'm in the middle of the Raven Hill Road. So I took him by the arm. And I took him right on to the middle of the road. Of course, the people thought we were fools. They still think we're fools. And he says, I said, right, brother, tell your testimony. He said, give us testimony. He said, God saved me one year ago and I'm bubbling over. I can't keep quiet. I said, hallelujah, brother, you'll do well. And thank God he's doing well ever since. Confession comes when a man sees. Oh my friend, let me tell you a story. Don Yonder in Ballymena, one of the wildest characters in my hometown could see him. You know that what kept him for Christ for a week during the evangelistic meetings was fear of his companion. He had lived with a brother in sin. They had drunk together, sworn together, played together, sinned together. And he was dead scared of what his bosom pal would say. And for a week he fought it. And one night he said, pal or no pal, I'm getting saved. And he got saved. And immediately he got saved. The fear of man left him. And he wanted to meet his companion. But could he meet that fellow? He went to his home, he wasn't there. He went to his work, the man wouldn't come out to. He went everywhere and one day, about a few days after, four or five days, he saw him on Bridge Street. I don't know whether you know Balamina or not. And he says, I'll catch him. So him away up Bridge Street as hard as he could fly. And the fella saw him coming and he took to his heels. And he away as hard as he could. And went right up to the head of the time. And the fella turned up a side street. And the lad ran after him. And the fella ran up a little land way. And it was a wrong turning. He went into a cul-de-sac. And he came to a wall and he had to stop. So he stood against the wall like this with his eyes closed. And the fella come up and he caught him by the shoulders and he turned him round and he said, I've come to tell you, I've not seen him. Do you hear that? My, that man was really seen. That's confession. Now I'm not saying that you get out onto the Ravenhill Road and run down the Ravenhill Road and get the first person you meet and tell, although it wouldn't do any harm if that happened in this meeting tonight. My, that would be a bombshell among these respectable Ardenley Avenueites if everybody went out here and started to testify like that. I'm telling you, that's what the early church did. They confessed Him. That's what this church is doing. It's confessing Christ in a non-gematical age. We're standing up for Jesus. That's what we're standing. I'll tell you what else goes with repentance. Holiness. Holiness. And I'm not talking about holiness spelt with an EY. I'm talking about holiness that is of the Lord. There's a lot of people on the only holy ground they'll ever stand on is the golf course. That's the only holy ground they'll ever be on. But I'm talking about real, biblical, scriptural holiness. What does it mean? It means if a man's saved, he hates sin and loves the Lord. That's what it means. He hates the devil, and he loves Jesus. He hates the things that scorn him. And he loves the things that elevate him. Whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, think on these things. That's what holiness is. And what a lovely thing it is to see a holy Christian. To see holiness in the home. To see holiness in the children. While my little girl was singing, going to that meeting, little cherub this afternoon, she was singing, Heaven came down. And glory filled my soul. And I looked at her in her little fierce and curly head, and she was just beaming. My, that's a child's innocent grasp of Jesus. That's holiness. God give us holiness of heart. God help us to walk with the Lord. And the last thing that means God's salvation, Mr. Terry has come back again. He's a very friendly article, isn't he? He is indeed. He's a four-legged one, not a two-legged one, of course. The next thing that results in this, as the result of repentance, accompanies repentance, is peace. Peace. Great thing to have peace, isn't it? I want to tell you, friend, the greatest blessing you could have is God's peace. When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my Lord thou hast taught me to know, it is well, it is well with my soul. I wouldn't barter God's peace for anything you could give me tonight. There are men in this city on the big salaries, on the big money, on the climb the ladder, but they haven't peace. I'll tell you an experience I had. I was friendly with one of the most wealthiest men in this city of Belfast. I went to see that man when he died, and when he died, his fortune could hardly be calculated. That man was rich in basket and in store. And I went out to his wonderful home, and as I drove up that great winding avenue and came to the mansion in which he lived, I said to myself, what good's all this? He hasn't got cracks. And I went in, and I called him by his name. And I said, I've been your friend for many years and you say you're my friend. I said, I want to really talk to you now. And I said, you're going to leave it all. He said, you know Ian, you have the same faith as my mother had. You have the same faith as my father had. He said, you are a born again Christian. I said, that's right. I said to him, you would need to be a born again Christian. And you know that man got down on his knees. And I have the terrible and sad experience of a man who couldn't come to Jesus. And he was in his knees. And he wept. But he couldn't come. And he didn't come. And he died with riches. But he died without peace in his soul. And as I went to the funeral, there were just a few invited guests. The house was strictly private and the great ones of the land were represented. I looked at that coffin and I said, there's a man who left it all and he hadn't peace. I've been in a very humble home where a dear one has been called away. They hadn't much of this life's goods. The rich man and the great man of this city didn't even ever hear their name. or didn't know that they had gone but the home was filled with a piece of heaven and there were loved ones around the coffin and the sand praise God she talked about Jesus in the last hours she told us she was going home she talked of the land that's fairer than day she talked about heaven's blessed city my friend I'd rather go from the house of mourning of those that know Christ, and to the house of joy of those that know Him not. Peace! Jesus will give you peace! You're torn with sin! Habits are binding you! You're lost! You're troubled! Praise God! Jesus gives man peace! You can have peace tonight. You can step out of this unfinished church. with God's peace filling your soul. Oh, it's a great thing, the peace of God. It's passive knowledge and all understanding. I'm through from the command to repentance. God commandeth all men everywhere to repent! God's commanding you to repent. Have you repented? Have you turned to Christ from your idols? Are you in Christ tonight? Are you sure of salvation? Are you saved and safe by the blood of Jesus? If not, God's calling you tonight to repent. God's calling you tonight to turn to Christ. God's calling you tonight to come to the Savior. May God help you to come for Jesus' sake. Amen and Amen. Let's bow our heads. Gracious Heavenly Father, we thank Thee this evening for the privilege of preaching the Word of God. We thank Thee for a real sense of Thy presence in this unfinished church. We thank thee for men and women, boys and girls, who have listened to the gospel. And we bless thee that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. O God, grant that souls tonight may come to Christ. May this work of repentance be wrought in the hearts of men, and may they come and trust the Savior for Jesus' sake. As every head is bowed and every eye is closed, and we're perfectly still and quiet in God's presence, there are many in the meeting tonight who know the Savior. Praise God they have repented. The gift of repentance has been theirs. They have turned to God from idols to serve the Living God and to wait for a Son from Heaven. Thank God for every Christian in the meeting tonight. If you are saved, thank God God has given you repentance on faith, on trust in the Lamb. Would you pray, you dear Christians, that tonight among us souls may trust the Savior, that tonight the work of grace may be done in hearts, that man and woman may come to the Savior. And as every head is bowed and every eye is closed, I believe in the meeting there are men and women, boys and girls who are not saved, that never said yes to Christ. My friend, you have felt the call tonight. God has been speaking to you. You know you need to repent. You know you need to turn to God. You know you need this mighty regeneration in your heart. Sin is too strong for you, and it's binding you, and it's breaking you, and it's bleeding you, and it's killing you. You need to come to Christ. May God help you to come. May God help you now. Now there are men and women here who are backsliders. They once knew and loved the Savior, but they wandered far away from God. They brought to their hearts pain and woe, but praise God tonight they can be restored to the Lord. Praise God, their backsliding can be forgiven. They can start afresh to heaven. They can look again. Will you look again, my backsliding brother? My backsliding sister? As every head is bowed and every eye is closed, and we're perfectly still and quiet before God. If there's a man or woman, a boy or girl in this service this evening, and you'd like to come to Christ and take Christ as your Savior, I wonder right now as her heads are bowed and her eyes are closed, would you do something? Would you lift your hand quietly above your head so that I can see it? And will remember you in the closing prayer tonight that the Lord may give repentance to your heart. Will you do it now? Yes, let me see your hand right now. That's right, just lift it now. Let me see your hand. Say, yes, preacher, I'm going to come. This is my night. I'm going to trust Christ now. Would you do it now? Anywhere in the meeting, just let me see your hand now. Just do it now. That's right. Just lift it now. Let me see. Just as I'm done with her. Every single verse, will you lift your hand? Yes, just do it now. God bless you, little one. I see your hand. Just say the psalm again. Someone else. Just do it now. God bless you. Just take it down again. Someone else. Someone else. Just as I am, thy love unknown has broken every barrier, God. How can they lie? They lie alone. O Lamb of God, I come. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. I have been sent to give you a place to rest. One final invitation, just as I am, and willing not to rip my soul upon dark blood, To thee whose thought can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come. This is the final invocation. Will you lift your hand tonight, that God might hear your prayer, and that he might bring it to himself. God, whose celebrity shall call, on the name of the Lord, shall be saved. Whose celebrity, that's wide enough, that tips you in. Shall call, that's simple enough. Shall be saved, that's certain enough. Well in God's name, my friend, just acknowledge tonight your sin and ask God for the gift of repentance and peace. As we sing it, may the Lord help you this time.
