Acts chapter 4. We'll read through the chapter. I'm not sure we'll get through the whole chapter this morning, but it's always good to read the Word of God.
Acts chapter 4. And as they spoke unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, being grieved that they taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now eventide. But many of them who heard the word believed, and the number of the men was about 5,000.
And it came to pass on the next day that their rulers and elders and scribes, and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set themselves in the midst, they asked, by what power or by what name have ye done this?
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, ye rulers of the people and elders of Israel, if we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made well? Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you well.
This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name unto heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
" Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled and they took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus. And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, What shall we do to these men? For that, indeed, a notable miracle hath been done by them, is manifested, and to all these who dwell in Jerusalem we cannot deny it. But that is spread no further, but that is spread no further among the people. Let us threaten them that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them. because of the people, for all men glorified God for that which was done. For the man was above forty years old whom this miracle of healing was shown.
And being let go, they went to their own company and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said,
Lord, thou art God who has made heaven and earth and the sea and all that in them is, who by the mouth of thy servant David has said, Why did the nations rage and the people imagine a vain thing? of vain things. The kings of the earth stood up and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate with the nations and the people of Israel were gathered together to do whatever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. And now, Lord, Behold their threatenings, and grant unto thy servant that with all boldness they may speak thy word by stretching forth thine hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of those that believed were of one heart and of one soul, neither said any of them that any of the things which they possessed was his own, but they had all things common. and with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all, neither was there any among them that lacked, for as many as were possessors of land and houses sold them, and brought the price of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostles' feet, and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
And Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, which is being interpreted, the son of consolation, a Levite of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
Loving Father, we do ask your blessing upon the reading of your word. Pray minister it to our hearts, we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
Well, as we look at this passage this morning, and it is a quite lengthy passage, of course, but the general overview of the passage shows us that the apostles were continuing in the doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ, that is, in the teachings of Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection.
Now, of course, one of the things we see here is this revival continues We find that in chapter 3, of course, this man who had been lame from his mother's birth, now being more than 40 years old, and had been continually brought to the gate, which is called Beautiful, where then they enter into the place of Solomon's porch, or the colonnade near unto the temple. And we find that this man was healed as Peter and John come into the city. and see the man and says silver and gold they did not have but such as they had they were willing to share and of course that was the key thing that this man needed healing and so Peter reaches down and takes hold of his hand and begins to tug on him as if he was going to lift him up and immediately his ankles received strength And of course the miracle of healing was then evident, that this man was healed.
And now they are brought to, before the Sadducees, as we find here in chapter 4, in verse 1, and as they spoke unto the people, Peter and John, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them being grieved that they taught the people and preached through the name of Jesus, through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
Now the Sadducees, of course there were the Pharisees and then there were the Sadducees. Of course, the Sadducees were a more liberal element within the Jewish order of the religious movement of the day. Pharisees were more strict in law-abiding and they believed in the resurrection of the dead at the end of the age. But the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead at the end of the age. And so they did not believe, of course, that Jesus was resurrected. And, of course, we find that this greatly inflamed their liberal thinking and their desire then to stop Peter and John from saying anything more about Jesus or preaching the resurrection of Jesus.
Now, isn't it true that liberalism is like that? liberalism does not want you to preach Jesus Christ and in his death, burial, and resurrection. Because the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, the resurrection is a cornerstone of the Christian faith. That is, without the resurrection of Christ, what do we have except a lot of religious traditionalism? But because there is the resurrection of Christ, then that proves that Jesus was really who he said he was, that he was the Christ, that is the anointed one of God, that he was the one that was sent of the Father into the world, and that he was born of a virgin, Mary, and that Mary did not conceive of Joseph, but rather conceived of the Holy Spirit of God, even as the angel gave announcement that she would conceive, and that the Holy Child, and interesting that this phrase comes up in here, the Holy Child that would be born of Mary would be called Jesus, for he would save his people from their sin. the lost sheep of the house of Israel, if you will.
And so we find that the Sadducees were not happy about this. And as the pun goes, the Sadducees were sad as you see. They being this part of the religious movement at the time that was much more liberal. Liberalism today is like that, you know. Liberalism today doesn't believe in the deity of Christ. If you go into a liberal church and you try to support the deity of Christ, they will confront you and say, well, that may be fine for you, but not everybody believes in the deity of Christ. We believe he was a good teacher, and certainly as a good teacher we ought to follow those good principles that Jesus taught. But they do not have any true basis upon which to support their beliefs. only a certain kind of philosophy, religious philosophy that they have. So liberalism kind of is all over the place. You might find some who believe in Jesus, you might find some who don't believe in Jesus. But then when you try to define who was Jesus, they will come up with a lot of reasons why they don't believe he is the Jesus that you are talking about. And so they would even go so far as to say, well, Jesus became God at some point because of the many followers who followed him. Many became, Jesus became God. Like he was made into a God, a small G-O-D, not the true God of the Bible.
and yet the Word of God tells us that Jesus was in the beginning with God, and the Word was with God. And so Jesus Christ himself was in the beginning with God, and so we would reject any liberal notion that Jesus is anything less than God, God the Son. So the Sadducees then had a great animosity against anybody who would stand up and make such pronouncements as these two were making, as Peter and John were making. Being grieved, notice, these Sadducees were grieved, being grieved that they taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And so the teaching of Peter and John was undermining, challenging, if you will, the teaching of the Sadducees. And that's always an interesting thing. Whenever you challenge somebody else's belief, especially if they're a liberal theologian or a liberal pastor, liberal minister, liberal clergy, whatever you might want to call them, they tend to get very angry about it.
Some years ago when I was pastoring in Standish, Maine, I wanted to get introduced to the local pastor in town. So I had the opportunity to speak to him and began to ask him about his church and where he went to school and what he believed and so forth. And he was very angry with me that I would even ask him. I mean, you know, it's kind of like they are so high and mighty or so much above everybody else that you shouldn't even ask them what they believe because that's an affront to them. Because if you ask them something, well, then they've got to defend it. And, of course, that makes them very unhappy.
Anyway, so we find that these Sadducees here were grieved. Oh, by the way, you should be able to ask anybody what they believe. Anytime you want to ask me what I believe about anything, feel free to do so. I won't become angry with you. In fact, I'd be glad to talk with you about what you believe and tell you what I believe, because I'm going to base everything on what the Word of God says. What I believe is what the Word of God says. If I don't know something, I'll just tell you that I don't really know anything about that. I'll have to do some reading on that subject. But no, we shouldn't be angry. Nobody should be angry if you ask them what they believe. They shouldn't be at all. They ought to be willing to talk to you. And so I would encourage you to talk to people about what they believe.
So the Sadducees were angry. They became grieved about this insomuch that, verse 3, they laid hands on them. And so, here again, these are religious rulers who are supposed to be peaceable, supposed to be merciful, supposed to be just, upright, holy people, and what do they do? They lay hands on Peter and John. You know, you get the sense that it wasn't exactly a peaceable moment. But rather, the Sadducees probably had some officials with them and said, take them into custody, quick. We don't want them speaking to the people anymore. And so they took them into custody. And they laid hands on them and put them in custody until the next day. So they had to stay in prison overnight for the next day to arrive, of course. For it was now eventide. which is probably around three in the afternoon, according to the Jewish calendar, the time rendering.
So remember Peter and John had been in the colonnade of Solomon's Porch. In the area of Solomon's Porch they had been talking to a lot of people. The miracle had happened of healing this lame man. the Word of God was being proclaimed. They were preaching Jesus Christ. They were preaching the resurrection. So if they were preaching the resurrection, they were preaching the death of Christ as well. You don't preach one without the other. There's the death, the burial, and the resurrection. So they were preaching the gospel to a great number of people in this temple complex area outside of the court, the temple court.
And so, what happens? Verse 4, but many of them who heard the word believed. Well, interesting, whenever the word of God is preached and the gospel is given, people are affected by it. Now, again, the people at this time were very used to the Pharisees They were very used to the Sadducees, and neither one of those groups were preaching the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. What were they preaching? Well, they were preaching the law, probably, teaching the law. And so they probably were reminding the people, bring your sacrifices, they have to be a certain kind of sacrifice, and you have to bring them, and make sure you're not doing any work on the Sabbath day, and carrying out various kinds of rituals and so forth. They were requiring law-based information to be disseminated among the Jewish people, and that's all they were doing. They weren't giving them any hope. They were not giving them any word of salvation. They weren't being merciful on the people. They perhaps were doing a lot of religious kinds of things related to the law, but not like Peter and John.
Because Peter and John had just performed a miracle and healed someone. in great distress. In fact, he was above 40 years old, it says in the text here. He was above 40. And so he wasn't a young man. He was, the life expectancy at that time probably may have been maybe 60 years old. Perhaps that was an old person, 60 or 70 years old. But so he was well into his middle years, middle-aged years. and Peter and John gave this man some hope and gave him a word from God that God could heal him and he was healed
but many of them who heard the word believed and the number of the men was about 5,000 so in other words there was a large group of people in the area at the time Some commentators say, well, probably part of them was the 3,000 that were saved earlier, and maybe there's another 2,000 people that were saved at this time. Commentators, they say a lot of different things. But this is what the Bible says right here. That many of them believed but many of them who heard the word believed and the number of the men was about 5,000 was about so that's just kind of a guesstimate about 5,000 people there was a lot of people
In other words, the revival that began previously under the work of the Holy Spirit as God the Holy Spirit came down upon the people and the word of God was given that every man might hear the word, the gospel in his own language now began to really cause a great movement among the Jewish people and many believed and were truly saved. they were truly saved. And so we find here that salvation was coming to the people.
There's one thing that we know that changes people's lives is when they come to the knowledge of the truth concerning Christ. When it truly takes an effect on the heart and life, a person is changed. And these people were changed. They were changed. They were no longer listening to the Sadducees and the Pharisees. They were listening to Peter and John. They were listening to the words of the gospel which says Jesus came to die for the sins of the world and that he was buried and three days after his burial he was resurrected from the dead. And of course we know that Peter and John were probably filling in all of the spaces about the death, the burial and the resurrection of Christ. We were with Jesus. We were his disciples. We were fishermen. We became followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and saw Him while He walked upon the earth. See, they were filling in the blanks, just like we do in our conversation about things. We fill in the blanks. And they were filling in the blanks about Jesus. And we know Him as our Savior. We saw him crucified. We ourselves met with Jesus after his resurrection. And we touched him. And we were taught of him. And we know him. We were eyewitnesses of these things.
You can just feel in the sense of what Peter and John are saying is that they were really telling a lot of things. You know, when we come to preach the Bible today, we come with a text already written for us, and we read the text like we did this morning, and we just re-read it and re-comment about it, and try to explain it the best that we know how.
These early disciples lived the very text of the Bible. They lived it. That's why we have it, is because they lived it out, and Jesus was with them. And because of that, we find that the people not only wanted to hear them, but they were changed in their own belief. They were changed. Formerly, they were thinking like the Sadducees and Pharisees. But as soon as Peter and John began to talk to them and tell them about this one who came, he was known as the Christ, the anointed of God. He was known as the one who was promised from the Old Testament. He was known as that one who would come to redeem his people. He was known as the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. And John the Baptist came out of the wilderness preaching repentance to the people that they should repent for the kingdom of God was at hand.
These are all the in-between things. And you know that they probably didn't leave a thing out. I'm sure that they were preaching very strongly these same things. And they were also saying that these people here, these Sadducees and these Pharisees right here, these people, they're the ones who crucified Jesus. They're the ones who nailed Him to the cross. They're the ones who put Him in the grave. But God raised Him. But God raised Him. You see what I mean? All of the words behind what is being said here, you know was being said. Because they're the same words that you would say if you were there and you were eyewitnesses of these things too. You would say the same things. You wouldn't want to leave anything out.
And so many came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The word believed here is commonly the word pestos, and it means to believe or to have faith, the same word. It could be translated believe or faith, either one. Depends upon the context to the passage it is talking about. Later on in John chapter 1 and verse 12, he says, But as many as believed upon him. The same word. It means faith. As many as believed. When we believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ, we exercise faith. For by grace are you saved through faith. The word faith there in Ephesians chapter 2, 8 is the same word here for believe. It's just translated differently. It says faith, because grace and faith are needed. We need to acknowledge grace, the grace of God and the faith that God gives to us to believe. We need to acknowledge that in salvation.
In verse 5, And it came to pass on the next day that the rulers and elders and scribes, so here they are, the rulers, Pharisees and Sadducees, The elders, the scribes, the religious elders of the day, they probably included Pharisees and Sadducees, and the scribes. The scribes were the ones who had responsibility for copying the manuscript evidence, the old manuscripts, and making sure that they were accurate. These were all religious, Jewish religious people, and they represented the Judaism of the day. And so we find that it came to pass on the next day that the rulers and the elders and the scribes, so they had this big gathering, you say, we've got to have a big meeting because Peter and John are saying some things about Jesus and we haven't approved this. Well, isn't it true that most religious groups, they want your approval before you say anything. If you had the ability to get up and speak freely, and you tried to get up and speak freely in a church, and you didn't have approval, they probably would say, well, you don't really have approval to speak here to this august body, this great body of people. You don't have approval. They wanted people to get their approval. Like most people in authority, you know, you got to get approval.
And so these religious rulers, they were gathering together here. Their authority had been challenged, and they had a problem with this. Verse 6, And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
So all of these high officials, you might say, are gathered together here at Jerusalem. This was at Jerusalem that this was going on. And Peter and John, just these two people, just these two people had stirred up such a commotion that all the religious rulers who had anything to say about anything gathered them together because the Sadducees had arrested them. They were a threat.
Well, it wasn't exactly the Constitution of free speech at the time. You had to be careful about what you said. You know, it's pretty much like that today in some circles, isn't it? You can't say anything you want to say anytime you want to say it. They say you can, but if you try to do it, somebody's going to have a big fuss over it.
And in religious circles it's the same way. In academia it's the same way. You know, you go on to these college campuses today and if you want to say something, you can only say it if you happen to be a good liberal and you have a big sign and everybody is willing to listen to your sign that you are holding up. But if you're a conservative in a liberal university among liberal academia, no. they are not going to take what you have to say very well and they might try to silence you as quick as they can
so these religious rulers were gathered together and they were having this big meeting a committee a committee They called a committee together of all the religious rulers. Well, you know, if you really don't want to get something done, form a committee. It can run on for a very long time if you take it to committee. I'm sure you've been there before. You know what committees can be. So anyway, these religious rulers were not happy. and they were meeting to decide what to do about these people and so we see here in verse 7 and when they had set them in the midst they asked by what power or by what name he had done this
so here they are Peter and John are set right in the middle of the floor and all these religious rulers have surrounded them and they were on the hot seat They're on the hot seat. We want to know who gave you the right to say that Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth was resurrected from the grave. We want to know who gave you that right to say that. And so they were, that's very intimidating, isn't it? For anybody. If you go to Washington and this great body of people put you in front of them and you've got a microphone and all these other people up front, they've got microphones too, and they're throwing questions at you, you have to have a pretty cool head to sit under that situation, right? Pretty cool head. to know what to say at all. Because it's very intimidating, I'm sure. We've all seen it play out before on television.
So here it is, Peter and John, they are questioned. They're sat in the middle of this great group of people, and they're asked, by what power or by what name have you done this thing? Notice verse 8. Then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit. You know, if the Spirit of God really is with you, no matter in what group of people you happen to be in, you can say the right thing at the right time.
And we know that these early apostles, these early disciples, as they went out and they began to preach the Word of God, and they were preaching the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ, and the ascension. The death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ, yes, but also the ascension of Christ, that he ascended. In other words, they weren't confused about their message, and they didn't care if others approved of their message or not. and they were willing just to stick to the truth of what they knew.
So, there are some simple instructions, if you will, if you come up against someone. as long as you stick to the basics of what your faith is all about. The death, the burial, the resurrection of Christ, Christ ascending to the right hand of the Father. You know, the first thing people want to do when they get you alone and begin to question you is, well, what do you think about the Nephilims in Genesis chapter 3? Who are them? I thought we were talking about Jesus. Most of the time people just want to divert you to some strange little offshoot doctrine that never comes up unless somebody is just very inquisitive and curious and wants to try to stump you on something. You don't even have to go there. I'm not saved by the Nephilims in Genesis chapter 3, whoever they might have been. No, Jesus is the one we're talking about here. Jesus in his death, his burial, and his resurrection, and his ascension to the right hand of the Father.
So don't get sidetracked by these little rabbit trails everybody wants to get you on. You don't have to go there. And Peter didn't go there. Peter stuck to what he knew. Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, ye rulers of the people and elders of Israel." So he addressed this group of people right in front of him. If we this day be examined of the good deed done to this impotent man, this lame man who could not walk, by what means he is made well? If we're here to be examined of why we did what we did in healing this man, if that's the reason Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the power of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you well." And so what does he do? He preaches the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ. He preaches Jesus, the Jesus who was of Nazareth, the Jesus that they said, what good thing can come out of Nazareth or Galilee? And he preaches the crucifixion of Christ. He says, you crucified him, but God raised him from the dead. And this man stands here with us, this man who was lame and was healed, this man who stands here, he is made well. If seeing is believing, he's saying, well, look for yourself, he's well. And he before, he's over 40 years old, and he'd been coming to this temple gate for a very long time, and now he is well.
you must realize that we preach only Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth, the one who you crucified, the one who was raised from the dead. And then he goes on to say in verse 11, this is the stone which was set at naught of you builders. This is the stone which the builders rejected.
Now we can go all the way back to Isaiah 28, 16, where it talks about the stone which the builders rejected. But Peter also preached about this as well and mentions it in his writings, his epistle, This is the stone which was set at naught of you builders. You didn't want to have anything to do with it. This is the one. He is the cornerstone of the temple. In other words, I'm saying he's the cornerstone of the temple. You didn't want to have anything to do with Christ. He is the anointed of God and you rejected him and he became the head of the corner.
And then he goes on to make this statement about salvation. He says, neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. And so he makes a very strong declaration about the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ. He makes a strong confronting message to them saying, you crucified the one whom you should have received. But he was raised again. And because he was the Savior, because he was the Savior, the anointed of God, because he was the one who was resurrected of God, because he is the one who is the true stone of salvation, the foundation of our salvation, This man was healed when we spoke in his name. This man was healed.
And so we find that even though this first persecution began here in the New Testament, even though that is true, the revival, the revival that started earlier continues. Sometimes in the midst of persecution, revival springs up. Especially if it is of God. Only if it's of God. Let us make it clear. Only if it is of God does revival spring up. Because revival isn't of man, it's of God.
Just remember, the Holy Spirit was given at the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit came down because it was the promise of the Father. It was the promise of the Father, the promise of God. And so, the promise of the Father sent the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God brought the revival, 3,000 were saved. God the Holy Spirit was in the very life of Peter and John as they went into Jerusalem that day. And as they encountered this poor man, the Spirit of God raised up this man. It wasn't Peter. Peter and John didn't raise that man. It was Jesus. The Holy Spirit of God raised up this man and healed him. And now they are standing here in this situation. And yes, by the very Spirit of God, the same Spirit of God was with them, though they were being held captive against their will, the same Spirit of God was with them.
As we see here in verse 8, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, was able to speak to them these things. Now that should tell us something too. It should tell us that when the Spirit of God is with us, we will be able to speak for the Lord. When the Spirit of God is with us, we will be able to serve the Lord. Peter and John were serving the Lord even in healing this man. Does that mean you're going to go out and heal this man? Heal a man or any man? No. It doesn't necessarily mean that. At this particular time in the Book of Acts, it was a transitionary period The church had just come into existence and there was to be a period of time where the disciples were to go and speak in the name of Jesus and do things in the name of Jesus that would set the church on a course where the gospel would be the main focus of what was to be said. in the New Testament.
Every one of the epistles following would focus on the gospel of Christ and on the church itself. Because it was truly born of the gospel. The church was born of the gospel. Because every person who comes to faith in Christ is born from above, born of God. as we know in John chapter 3 it tells us that. You must be born again. It's not enough to be born physically from your mother, you must be born again from above. Be born of the Spirit of God.
And the Spirit of God is the one who is behind all that was going on at these early stages of the church. the demonstration of the Spirit of God, the manifestation of the Spirit of God, and God was using Peter and John at this particular moment, and we know that it was necessary that the Church would be established. Oh, and by the way, the Church has been established, and it is still continuing, though we are 21 centuries later. We should never think that the church is without power or without authority. We have the same power and authority that Peter and John had. We preach Jesus in his death, his burial, and his resurrection. We preach Jesus. That is the message of the church.
And why do we preach Jesus? Because Jesus is the one that does miracles and heals people. Yes, even today Jesus heals people. But verse 12 tells us the major reason why we preach Jesus. Neither is there salvation in the other. For there is no other name given unto heaven whereby we must be saved. No other name. And if you happen to get into a liberal church you will find that there's a lot of other things that they're preaching. But it isn't Jesus and it isn't his death, burial and resurrection. And so stick to a church where you hear the gospel of Christ, the death, the burial, and the resurrection. That is the heart and core of the gospel of Christ.
Many other elements come into it, of course, as we learn and grow more in the things of Christ. But those other elements, other doctrines, if you will, that you find in the New Testament wouldn't exist without the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Because they are the foundation. And that's what he talks about in verse 11. This is the stone which was set at night. You didn't believe it. You didn't believe it. Of you builders. You set that stone aside. The Sadducees and Pharisees and the Sanhedrin and all the scribes. They just set that stone aside. It wasn't good enough in their eyes. But Jesus is that cornerstone of our salvation. For neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
Let us pray. Loving Father, we do thank you for your word to us this morning. Ask your blessing upon your word. Pray, minister it to our hearts. Help us to keep secure the death, the burial, and resurrection of Christ in our thinking that we will use that always as a true defense of the faith. Lord, we do thank you and praise you in Jesus' name. Amen.
