you you Well, welcome again to our Grace
Baptist Ministries, an online ministry, as the pastor has mentioned
here recently. You're now viewing that part
of the ministry referred to as Sunday School. And I pray that
each time we meet and you see these messages, that you and
I are truly being schooled by the Lord God in the things of
God. We want to continue this week
from what we were doing last week. So today, power, love,
and a sound mind part 2 and I want to begin today
with a reading from our key scripture that was 2nd Timothy 1 7 and
this is a literal translation it reads this way for the God
there's only one true God the God of the Bible for the God
has not given us The word us there is not a reference to everybody,
folks. It's a reference to the elect
of God, the people of God, those people who have received these
things. For the God has not given us
a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Now, the word translated fear
in this particular text is seen only one time in the New Testament. And it is a fear demonstrated
in timidity. And at its worst, it is seen
in cowardice. God has not given his people
that kind of spirit. It's at this point, again, I'd
like to repeat the fact that the statement seen here that
we've just read from the Holy Scripture is a verse addressed
primarily to the man of God in the pulpit. In this case, it
was Timothy, the Apostle Paul writing to Timothy. Nonetheless,
we did learn as well that there is a secondary application for
all of God's people to be included. in that very scripture that we
just read. What is declared there is for
God's men in the pulpit, and it's declared for all those who
are truly born again. Now we saw that in part one of our
message, and we'll see it again today. Primarily meant for the
man of God, the Christian, You who are attending this message,
listen up. It's for you as well. It's to
be applied in your very own life. And I speak to you, Christians,
just as the man in the pulpit today has not been given a spirit
of timidity, certainly not a spirit of cowardice. When the enemies
of Christ attempt to intimidate and frighten us, So for you,
all true Christians are going to
be given this Holy Spirit of God who enables us to withstand
any evil attack with which we are assaulted. And folks, that's
the way this life is. It comes out of the blue sometimes. You think everything is going
just fine. and then all of a sudden someone is in your face accusing
you and so on and so on. I think we've all been. This
can happen in the line at Kroger's, right? In the line at the grocery
store. Folks, there's a great difference
between weakness and meekness. Christians are to be meek, but
not to be weak. Meekness is gentle, but with
Christians it is accompanied by power, love, and a sound mind. I pray that you heard that. We're
to be gentle, folks. We're to be meek. But that meekness
in the Christian is accompanied by power, love, and a sound mind. Now what we're going to do today
is review these graces that we spoke of last week. Those graces
bestowed upon the men who lead in the church. And of course the church is the
body of true believers. These men who lead in preaching
and teaching the holy scriptures. But we're going to do that again
without forgetting these graces are given to all Christians.
that they might be equipped to stand against the methods of
evil spirits in the unseen realm of the demonic forces. I know
that that is so foreign to the way 99%, maybe more, of the people
in this world believe today. But that is exactly what's going
on in this world. There's an unseen world of bad
intentions towards the people of God. First, I want us to look
again at some key verses, and we're going to be reading first
about that grace given us by the Holy Spirit in the new birth,
power, power. I read this last week. I'm gonna
read it again. Very, very important. We need
to be aware of these things. Paul the Apostle says this to
the people of God, Now I read from the New King James Version
here. Last week I made a bit of a tongue slip, a mistake. I said I read from the King James
Version. Indeed, I read from the New King James Version, which
I'm doing right now. Again, for this reason, I bow
my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom
the whole family in heaven and on earth is named. Ooh, that's
so important for you and I. As the people of God, we are
part of the family of God. Part of that family is in heaven
now in spirit with Christ, but there are those on earth that
he would grant you according to the riches of his glory to
be strengthened with might through his spirit in the inner man my
goodness you couldn't have a much better explanation could you
of the power of God than that that you would be strengthened
with might with power through his spirit in your inner person
that Christ might dwell in the hearts of you through faith,
that you being rooted and grounded in love, power, love, and being
able to comprehend with all the saints, every Christian is a
saint, God would have all his people to comprehend these things.
He's given us his written word and he's given us, God willing,
gifted men to bring these things to you that we might understand
them better. Being rooted and grounded in
love may comprehend with all the saints what is the width
and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ, which
passes knowledge. It passes understanding. that you may be filled with all
the fullness of God. Power and love filling us with
all the fullness of God. Now to him, the Lord God himself,
who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we
ask or think, now listen to this, according to the power that works
in us. Christian Christian Christian
Me I need to look at myself in the mirror. I need to understand
this better According to the power that works in us to him
glory in the church by Jesus Christ to all generations forever
and ever Amen Another revelation of that power
that we did not look at last week is found in Ephesians 1,
verses 19 and 20. I read from a literal translation
concerning that verse. It is speaking of the exceeding,
surpassing greatness of the power of Him. This is a reference to
the Father, as we'll see. toward us. Did you hear that? The exceeding, surpassing greatness
of the power of Him toward us. And may I again make note of
the word us. That is not to everybody without
exception, folks. It's to the people of God and
the people of God only. It goes on to say this, those
believing You see, we are continually believing those believing according
to the working of the might of the strength of Him. Again, the
power of God in us, in the being of the Holy Spirit of God. Listen
further, which He, God the Father, worked in the Christ, having
raised Him from dead. He was dead. The word D is not
there. I like that translation. Having
raised him from dead, he was dead, but God gave him life,
his humanity. He gave him life. The power. in our primary application given
to the men in the pulpit and then in our secondary application
and the measure of that power given to Christians who attend
to this preaching and this teaching comes from the power that raised
Christ from the dead. Think about that. Ponder upon
that. Folks, That is the power, the
might that works in your soul today. If you're one of the people
of God. There's no other way to put it.
Christians are highly favored by God. They are created in,
created spiritually in, united to Jesus, Christ. They have the power of
God within their hearts and minds. They have a spirit. Now, this
is not just the human spirit here, folks. They have a spirit,
the Holy Spirit of love. What is the very first portion
mentioned in the scriptures when it comes to the fruit of the
spirit? It's love. Love. See, we're moving now from
power to love. Now, I want to give you the words.
I'm going to expand upon what I did last week in explaining
to you from 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter about this grace
within us, this virtue within us referred to as love. And when you go through the scriptures,
folks, you find out that for the true people of God, pretty
much everything. All the graces work off of this
love. They're motivated by this love,
the love of God, which was shed abundantly upon us through the
Holy Spirit when God birthed us again. This spirit of love
is, now I'm going to that first Corinthians section, taking the
words that describe it and going a little bit more fully, giving
you a more full picture. Wouldn't you like to know more
about this love that is within you? I would, I surely would. Love is patient. I think the King James says long-suffering,
the word is patient. And it means long-tempered. See, it takes a long time. For the true Christian, if they
will operate within the spirit of Christ, It takes a long time
for that temper to be fired up because you have patience. You have patience. Love is kind. And as I explained to you from
another message, which I wish everyone would listen to, kind
means that you are exercising goodness. Kindness
is goodness in action. And only the true people of God
have any real goodness. Kindness in action motivated
by God. It's not envious. We have a real problem with that
as American Christians, with all of the wealth and things
that people have in America, stuff. where we're, as Christians,
not envious, we're not concerned about others that have more than
we have. I pray that's true. That's a
real problem, again. We may be prone to that. We need to guard against that.
Love is not boastful I remember one time when I visited a woman
was doing a visit from the church from a person who had come to
the church and was sitting down with this lady and talking to
her and she proclaimed she was a Christian and she said this
I've related this to you before it's been quite a while since
I have spoken of it she said you know I'm gonna have a high
place in heaven I mean, literally, this is what the lady said to
me, because I treat my fellow man very well. Oh my goodness. I just can't believe that the
motivation there was one of glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ. I think
that was true boasting about oneself. And my goodness, that's
not a sign of a true Christian heart. I did not accuse the woman
of anything. I did try to point out to her
though, that Christ was the center of our lives. Love is not arrogant. Remember the scripture, pride
goes before destruction. It's not arrogant. I think a
lot of folks have a problem with that. And we may be Christians, and have that difficulty and
have to guard against that. Love does not act in an unacceptable
manner. Just think about that. And when
we say acceptable, we mean acceptable to God. And we do have to be
careful. We do have to be careful. We
don't want to get into this, horrible so-called wokeness of
our current situation where we would offend someone who thinks
they're a woman when they're a man and we called them him. Well, I don't think you need
to worry too much about that, but you do want to be sensitive
to that. Maybe just stay away from it so that there won't be
any argumentation going on. Love does not act in an unacceptable
manner. Keep that mindful. Is not selfish. If you're a human being, you
got a problem with that. If you're a human being, you have a problem
with that. But love, the love of God is not selfish. It will cause you to think about
others before you think about yourself. Is not easily provoked. I'm gonna spend a second here
or two. Is not easily provoked. As Christians,
you must be very careful if before God saved you, you were prone
to being quick-tempered, having a short fuse before exploding. Well, you're looking at someone
like that, folks. When you look at me, I have to
be very, very careful in that area. And I need to war against
that spirit. That's an evil spirit. That's
not a spirit from God. It's the spirit now working in
the sons of disobedience as we see in Ephesians 2, 2. You know, we read recently in 1 Corinthians
2, 12, we have received not the spirit of the world, but the
spirit who is from God, a spirit of love. And what is that spirit
again? It's the Holy Spirit. Now continuing
here in 1 Corinthians chapter 13, love keeps not account of
wrongs. I think I missed this one last
week. I talked about a bag of tricks that we have and we might
pull some wrongs out of it. I really think the scripture
here means we're not keeping a scorecard against others listing
their wrongs that they have done. We're not holding that against
folks. We're not keeping an account of that. I pray we're not, so
that we can get back at them at a later date when they may
confront us. The Holy Spirit of love does
not delight in unrighteousness. Of course it doesn't. But rejoices
in the truth. The Spirit of love rejoices in
the truth. You know, the truth can be a
hard thing sometimes. But it rejoices in the truth. The spirit of love bears all
things. As a roof bears under the snow
right now, bears under the rain, the weight of such. You and I,
folks, as Christians are built, we are built to bear the storms
of this life. The scriptures make that clear
in so many places. Love believes and has positive
expectation. That's what the word hope means
in the scripture. Love believes and has positive
expectation concerning all things truthful. We rejoice in the truth. Love endures all things. Not only are we built to bear
up under these storms of life, but we have the power to persevere
to the end through this spirit. And last, but certainly not least,
the spirit of love never fails. Now, you know, I love these words,
these individual words, and I went back and I was like, what does
that word fail mean? What does that involve? Very
interesting. I would highly suggest to you
to get one of these New Strong's Concordances. Look up these words. I mean, it expands your understanding
of what God is saying to us. This word fails in the Greek
literally means to fall to fall. The same Greek word is found
in James chapter 5 verse 12 lest you fall into condemnation. So that gives you a sense of
what we're talking about. You love never fails. You will
never fall. into condemnation in the exercise
of this spirit of love. Never going to fall into condemnation. The God has not given us a spirit
of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Let's take a look a little more
deeply into sound mind. for a real, and this is the way
I put it, eye-opening and mind-opening look at this one Greek word,
sound mind, two Greek words in our text, but one Greek word
translated sound mind. I want to do this for you. I'm
going to go to this Strong's Concordance and read
from page 246 in the New Testament portion of it. There are six
words. that have to do with this word,
with these words, sound mind. And I'm gonna read just a touch
from each one of those words. So you will get a more full picture,
a more complete picture of what we're talking about when we're
talking about a sound mind. Wouldn't you like to know better
what the word sound mind means for you as a Christian? and how
you can call upon that knowledge to help you when you are in a
tight situation realizing you need to call upon your sound
mind. Now the first word, I'm not gonna
pronounce these words for you, I could do that, just take more
time, but these words all sound a great deal alike, but they're
different words. The first one, Be in right mind. That's what it means. Sober minded. In one's right mind. Temperate and self-controlled. Now this is what it means folks
when you're in a right mind. The next word is a verb and it
means to make of sound mind. See, that's what God has done
to you and I. He has made us of a sound mind
by giving us of his spirit. And in so doing then, to discipline
or correct. You know, your mind can discipline
you and correct you. It's where that comes from. through
the Holy Spirit of God. This word denotes to be of sound
mind, to recall to one's senses, restore one to his senses. Now, you and I get out of line.
We need to be restored to a proper sense of what God would have
us to do, to moderate, control, curb, disciple or discipline. to hold to his duty, hold one
to his duty. Then we move to another word,
and this is actually the word that we have in this particular
text. It means discipline, self-control,
sound mind, used one time in the New Testament in that text. Now we move to the last three
words that are very, very closely related. with sound mind. You know, you and I leave the
house this morning with sound mind, if we're Christian. And
if we're with sound mind, we need to exercise that sound mind. Moderately or soberly suggests
the exercise of that self-restraint that governs all passions and
desires. enabling the believer to be conformed
to the mind of Christ. Now, I don't know about you,
but I want to be conformed to the mind of Christ. And God has
given us a spirit enabling us to do that. The next to last
word, soundness of mind, sanity, self-control, soberness, sobriety. This word has to do with having
complete control over the passions and desires so that they are
lawful and reasonable. Now, folks, that not only operates
from the law of God, but within those laws that you and I are
under here on this earth through the God-ordained power God gives
to governments. A certain curtailment and regulation
of passions. We need to have that. We need
to have a regulation of our passions, folks, and that's worked through
this sound mind. Both removing those that are
improper and excessive and also arranging those that are necessary
to the proper time and in moderation. I don't know about you, but goodness
that is helpful to me. That this this is the word of
God, you know, I mean this just the way that it is then lastly. The last word related safe or
sound in mind. Self-controlled moderate as to
opinion or passion discreet of set of of sound mind self-controlled. When I finished that, I was chomping
at the bit to share that with you. And I hope that it has been
of some help for you. When you look at the scripture
that talks about God having given you a sound mind. Now there's another thing that
this brought up to my heart, and I feel sure it was the Spirit
of God, I have no doubt. You and I have to be able to
relate to what I just read. As Christians, in our daily lives,
the way we behave. Do those words, and I ask myself
this question. I'm not looking to come after
you. I ask myself, do those words describe me? Do they describe
you? In our daily lives, in some positive
measure. We're not perfect. We fail all
the time. There's got to be some positive
measure that these things affect you and I. The Holy Scriptures
do demand of us, this is the Holy Scripture, to examine yourselves
whether or not, excuse me, whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Examine yourselves. Test yourselves. Or do you yourselves not recognize? Don't you know? Can't you see? Concerning Jesus Christ in you. Those who have not the spirit
of Christ are none of his. Do we recognize that in our own
lives if whether at all you are reprobate folks? You know, it's
either one or the other. There's no middle ground here.
You're not partially a Christian and partially not a Christian.
You know, you're a Christian or you are not a Christian, and
we need to have that self-examination. A spirit of power, love, and
a sound mind is found only in the being of the Holy Spirit
of God. It's the self same spirit of
Christ given to all God's elect in the new birth. God doesn't
make any mistakes. And we're gonna look at that
in a moment. The us of 2 Timothy 1, 7 are the elect of God. God has not given us a spirit
of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. You know,
there are people who profess to be Christians who read that
text and say, God's given that to everybody. Well, just look
around, folks. I mean, goodness, common sense
will tell you that that's not even close to being true. And
I would say this to you as a true Christian, thinking of you as
a true Christian, fear not. Dear Christian, God intimately
knows all of his elect and says so in this very letter that we've
been looking at, 2 Timothy 2.19. The word of God says this, nonetheless,
the firm foundation, this is a literal translation, the firm
foundation of God stands having this The seal. Actually the word the is in that
text. I mean, he's making a point here. This, the seal, Lord, as
a name, knows the ones being his. Now that being his is overwhelmingly
important. I think most of your scriptures
say who are his. That's not the literal text. The ones being his. How important
is that? You see, that's a word that's
a present participle. And you know what that means?
God's elect have always been in the present, in the mind of
God, in time and eternity. That's the way he has known us,
intimately known us. He's never, ever lost sight of
one single person. people that are of his elect. God has made no mistakes as to
whom he has given a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Gosh, I hope you heard that.
He's made no mistakes when it comes to those who have a power,
excuse me, a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. They are specific They are the
elect. And that is only reserved for
those to whom he gave his son. And you can make another statement
from that. Those are reserved to those to
whom he gave his, excuse me, whom he gave to his son. We are
given to Christ, Christ is given to us. And God knows every single
one involved in that particular application. Christ himself verified
that in his time on the earth when he presented himself as
the sacrifice for the sins of these very same people. This
is John chapter 37. John chapter 37. You know, I
did the same thing. I wrote that down in my notes. It's a verse 37, but it's John
chapter 6, verse 37. When we begin there,
we're going to read through verse 40. And I'm reading from the
New King James Version. Again, God the Father knows specifically
the ones he gives to Christ, period. He hadn't lost track.
You don't have to check his record. This is part of his being. All
that the Father gives me will come to me. And the one who comes
to me, I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from
heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent
me. This is the will of the Father who sent me, that of all he has
given me, I should lose nothing. but should raise it up at the
last day. And this is the will of Him who
sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes, sees the
Son. Have you seen the Son? You haven't
seen Him, but you've seen Him by faith, folks. You've seen
Him by faith in your heart and in your mind. And that's the
most important thing. Not the physical side, but that
which is spiritual. Everyone who sees the son and
believes in him may have everlasting life and I will Raise him up
on the last Day Now we're going to be moving
forward now to see from second semith timothy specific warning
We stay in 2 Timothy again because, as I told you last week, we have
so much that points us to why God has given us power, love,
and a sound mind. We have a need, a real need there
of the indwelling Holy Spirit of God and that supply. of power, love, and a sound mind. And this is what is going to
enable us to endure the warfare that we are in the midst of in
this present evil age. Whether you are a man of God
preaching and teaching the Holy Scriptures, or if you are a true
child of God following Christ wherever God has placed you. Under whoever's ministry God
has placed you, humanly speaking, this following verse is meant for all of us. Whether
or not you're in that pulpit or you're in that pew where God
has placed you. 2 Timothy 3.12, literal translation. You know, the whole thing revolves
around this. This whole message sort of revolves
around this. Now, also, all the ones desiring or willing to live
godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. Now, you can't run
and hide from that one, folks. You can't avoid that in any way,
shape, or form. And you don't know when that's
gonna come upon you. And it comes upon us often as Christians. Folks, you've got to realize
something, too. And I'm going to be reading a text from there.
But speaking of the last times, you know, the last days, folks,
we're more than 2,000 years beyond when that was written. So folks,
we're, you know, goodness, we're closer to the end than they were
2,000 years ago. That's for sure. No doubt. about
that. If you desire, if you're truly
willing, in the heart of your hearts, in your minds, to live
godly in Christ Jesus, get ready. Be ready. Constantly. You will
be persecuted. You know what that word persecuted
has to do with? Listen to this. This is something
you need to realize. Shows the depth of that word.
All Christians will be pursued. That's what persecution has to
do with. It's talking about a pursuit
by those with bad intentions, bad will. I've noticed this to be true
in my own life, numbers of times, even when people don't know.
you are a Christian, you will be hatefully treated for your
good behavior. People don't have to know that.
Like I said, you can be in the line at the grocery store and
someone can jump all over you for doing what you thought was
the right thing to do, maybe even trying to be helpful to
them. And they spit in your face. You may be mocked as well as
a person who has a holier-than-thou attitude when you are simply
trying to do what is right. You and I may not be looking
for trouble. I know I'm not looking for trouble.
I've always really hated confrontation of any kind with people. I shouldn't
say always. I mean since I've been a Christian.
I've really not liked those times. But I'm going to tell you something.
Though you're not looking for trouble, it's going to find you.
It's going to find you because the unseen forces of this spirit
world of darkness are pursuing you with a resentless, resentless,
a relentless zeal to destroy you. First Peter 5.8 is not some fairy
tale for you to look at and say, oh, that's interesting. First
Peter 5.8, be sober. Now that word there means be
free from intoxicants that will cloud your mind. You and I Folks
need to be of sound mind. Be sober, be vigilant. In other
words, watch out. Watch out, be alert. The adversary
of you, and literally it's Diabolos, the diabolical one, the devil,
prowls about as a lion seeking whom to devour. Remember I said they're gonna
be looking for you? Trouble is looking for you, seeking to devour. Now the next verse, the very
next verse after that, begins this way when referring to this
diabolical force of evil, whom you should resist steadfast in
the faith. When you and I are attacked unjustly
by people with bad intentions, God has given you, God has given
me a spirit of power to endure that spiritual, and it's intense,
intense spiritual stress. As much as I hate that, intense
spiritual stress, God has empowered me to be able to endure that,
as painful as it may be at the time. He has also equipped us
with a sound mind of his spirit, enabling us to understand just
where that evil attack, that assault is coming from. In addition,
such a mind, this sound mind, as we've seen, equips us with
discipline and self-control to maintain a godly attitude. Now, that's the way it should
be in the midst of a fiery trial. And these are fiery trials, are
they not? Fiery trials. Oh, I've had people hollering
at me, screaming at me, wanting to fight me. throwing punches
at me, all kinds of things over just trying to be doing right. And then lastly, we've just mentioned
this power. And this is not last, though.
I talked about a sound mind, but I wanted to end this with
love this time. When we are confronted by such
folks, A spirit of love for those human beings who curse you. This
comes from the Bible. A spirit of love for those people
who curse you, who hate you, who despitefully use you and
persecute you. That spirit of love for those
people will prove your adoption as a child of God. Now, if you
don't believe me, you need to turn to Matthew chapter five
later. Matthew chapter five, verses 44 and 45, read those
verses. Again, you're gonna have those
who curse you, I've had that. Gonna have those who hate you,
I've had that. Despitefully use you and persecute you. There's got to be, and there
is. It's there. You know, Paul says to Timothy
in there, stir up that gift that is within you. We need to stir
up. That gift of love within us,
it's there. God will work it in you. And that love for our enemies
in those terrible, terrible situations, and I have had this happen specifically
to me, during the assault, a peace that passes all understanding. And the exercise of that love. And you know, a most painful
thing, and we're getting down towards closing now, a most painful
thing is when we realize that we are confronted with these
kinds of persecution. And folks, they may occur among professing
Christians. They may occur among professing
Christians. People who claim to be Christians,
but come after us with bad, bad intentions. I'm going to read again from
our keynote book, 2 Timothy. Again, I'm going to request that
you just listen, please. Please just listen, because I'm
going to be skipping about in chapters three. And I pray that these verses will show you and
speak to your heart about your overwhelming need for a spirit
of power and of love and of a sound mind. Paul says this to Timothy. Now, remember, we're applying
this to the men of God. But we're applying this to all
Christians as well, because you can see yourselves here, no matter
what situation you are in in the church. But know this, that
in the last days, remember we just spoke of that, perilous
times will come. I don't know if we are in the
absolute last days, but we may be. We may be. We're certainly
moving closer. For men will be, listen now,
lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without
self-control. brutal, despisers of good, traitors,
headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure. Listen, lovers of pleasure
rather than lovers of God. Now listen, because folks, these
are people who may claim to be Christians, having a form of
godliness, but look what they deny. but denying its power. You see, I pray that what I'm
teaching to you today, what I'm preaching to you today, is coming
to you with power. As Paul said on several occasions,
his preaching wasn't with words only, but with power and from
the Holy Spirit. I pray that is occurring right
now. and from such people turn away. Now that's said to men like myself
that are doing this and it's said to everybody who's attending
this message if you're a true Christian. If they're in the
church, you need to turn away from them. They're not of God. But you, and here you Basically
referring to Timothy. But you can see how you're going
to be able to have this applied to you as well. But you must
continue in the things which you have learned and been assured
of, knowing from whom you have learned. Now, I would think that
what he's saying there primarily is, I, Paul, the apostle, have
taught them to you. But oh, friends, Paul knew this. It was the Spirit of God who
was giving him utterance and giving Timothy understanding
to receive what Paul was teaching. Paul goes on, I charge, therefore,
in other words, he's giving Timothy an order made with love. I charge
therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ who will judge
the living and the dead at his appearing in his kingdom. Preach
the word. Be ready in season, out of season. Convince or convict, rebuke,
exhort with all patience and teaching. For the time will come
when they will not endure sound doctrine. But according to their
own desires, they have itching ears. They will heap up for themselves
teachers, and they will turn away ears from the truth and
be turned aside to fables. But you, be watchful. in all things endure afflictions. I think of a recent uprising
in our own congregation when the pastor was confronted with
all kind of allegation. I can remember one thing that
I was moved on to do and did it almost immediately. when he
appeared to almost be all alone. He wasn't, but where the word
there says, be instant in season and out. I just walked up to
him and I said, brother, you just need to continue preaching. You just go right on ahead doing
what God called you to do. And he did. And it has been too
much profit for the people hearing and for he himself. As with Timothy, as Timothy was
exhorted to endure his own afflictions, all Christians must endure to
the end. That is a fact. That is the truth. If we don't endure to the end,
we won't be saved. We were never saved in the first
place. The Christians must endure to the end. And I close with
this. According to what we've heard
now, dear Christian, for thee God has not given us a spirit
of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. We will endure to the end. Bless God. Thank you, Lord God. Praying for Christ's sake. Amen. It was a storm the builders refused. It was passed out, rejected,
scorned and abused. Now that rock, which they would
not own, Is laid down in Zion, the cheap cornerstone. salvation. Standing eternal through
conflict and strife. Where could I find a firmer foundation
than Jesus, the Rock of Life? Then churched and secure, Clothed
in salvation, Spotless and pure, of hell shall all sail. Yes, they may threaten, but never
prevail. Jesus, the rock of my salvation,
