Good morning, everyone. Today is the 12th of November. It's Wednesday. There's a term that's often used and a signal that's often used when people are in distress, and it's called SOS. commonly known as an international distress signal signal for help. A serious request for help. SOS, SOS. Well, where do we go when we're in distress? What is our What is our distress signal and where do we go?
Well, the word help is a term that's used in the Bible. 117 times. Psalm 6011 says, give us help. Give us help from you know, man cannot give us any spiritual help. And we can't give ourself any spiritual help either. You know, our help comes from the lord who made heaven and earth. Isaiah forty says, comfort you, comfort you, my people to put up an SOS signal and think that man's going to help us. You know, Second King 627 and he said, if the lord do not help thee, when shall I help thee? You know, if god doesn't help us, I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me. Psalm 38, 22, make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. Jesus Christ is our salvation. There's no other name among men that we must be saved. There's only one mediator between God and man, and that is the man Christ Jesus. And he is our salvation. We cry out to the lord psalm 109 26 help me oh lord my god. Oh save me according to thy mercy The prophet hosea 13 9. Oh israel thou has destroyed thyself But in me is thine help and christ is my help You know Psalm 2219, but be not thou far from me, O Lord, O my strength, haste thee to help me.
People think that they can solve all their own problems, and they think that they have the answers, don't they? Oh, if I can just get a master's degree in this, I'm gonna go on and get my PhD degree. piled higher and deeper, right? Piled higher and deeper. I'm gonna get my doctor's degree, you know. I want all this knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, the Bible says. Psalm 63, seven, because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. Psalm 146, three, put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no help. I've never found any help in government or in, um, education or in, uh, the, the wisdom of this world. Psalm 71, 12. Oh God, be not far from me. Oh my God, make haste for my help. Psalm 115 10 o house of Aaron trust in the Lord. He is their help and their shield Psalm 35 to take hold of shield and buckler and stand up for my help Psalm 44 26 arise for our help and redeem us for thy mercy's sake
You know People are going to the wrong places and They're putting up the SOS signals in all the wrong places. You know, the SOS signal, like I said earlier, is an international signal of distress. Well, Psalm 9417, unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. Psalm 124 80 help is our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth Psalm 40 40 verse 17 But I am poor and needy yet. The Lord thinketh upon me thou art my help and my deliverer make no tearing. Oh my god. I Hebrews 4 16 let us therefore come boldly under the throne of grace That we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time need Psalm 46 1 to the chief musician for the sons of chorus song Upon Alamoth God is our refuge and strength a very present help in trouble
Well this morning We need to be reminded where our distress signals need to be. We need to take our distresses before the Lord and not before man, right? You know? Isaiah 59 behold the Lord God will help me Who is he that shall condemn me? Well, they all shall wax old as a garment the moss shall eat them up Psalm 27 9 hide not thy face far from me put not thy servant away in anger that has been my help Leave me not neither forsake me.
Oh God of my salvation when we're in distress, when we're in anguish of soul, when we're in sorrow, when we're in suffering, you know, the place to go is to the creator, the redeemer, the king of the universe.
Psalm 146, 5, happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his Well, Isaiah 4114, fear not thou worm, Jacob, and you men of Israel. I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 50, verse 7, for the Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded. Therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
Well, there's many, many passages in the Bible that show that the remedy for our distresses are not in man, but in God. Isaiah 44, 2, Thus saith the Lord that made thee and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee. Fear not, O Jacob, my servant, and thou, Jasharun, whom I have chosen. Psalm 42, 5, why art thou cast down on my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Well, I just wanted to remind everyone today that if you're putting up your distress signals to men, it's the wrong place. You know, Isaiah 63 5 I looked upon and there was none to help and I wondered that there was none to uphold Therefore my own arm brought salvation unto me and my fury it upheld me Psalm 79 9 help us O God of our salvation for the glory of thy name and deliver us and purge us away our sins for thy namesake Psalm 37 for And the Lord shall help them and deliver them and he shall deliver them from the wicked and save them because they trust in him
And finally Isaiah 41 10 Fear thou not for I am with thee be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen ye I will help thee. I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness
Well this morning Let us remember that our SOS signals should go up to God alone. God bless.
