With our Bibles open to Psalm 119, I want you to consider the theme for this wonderful chapter in the Word of God. The theme is the Word of God, the thread of God's wondrous truth. is woven throughout the whole of Psalm 119. It is truly a song about the Scripture, a poem about the precepts of God, a prayer written upon the promises of God's Word. It is the fourth psalm that opens up with a beatitude, or with the word blessed. Just so you could write them down, they are Psalm chapter 1, Psalm chapter 32, Psalm chapter 41, Psalm chapter 119, and then you have Psalm 128. And so if a man, a woman, a boy or girl is looking for a blessed and happy life, he, she can surely find it if we would just pay attention to what we find in this opening stanza of Psalm 119. This entire psalm provides us an inexhaustible exposition for the opening two verses of the entire Psalter. Recall with me Psalm 1, verses 1 and 2. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly. nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Here we see the blessed man who refuses to walk in the counsel of the ungodly and rejoices with delight in the law of the Lord. Would to God we would have more like the blessed man in Psalm number 1 upon the pews in our churches, and in the battle for the Lord and right, people whose lives and whose love is devoted to God and His Word, who have a firm, tenacious grip on the pure, preserved Word of God. Yes, the King James Bible, if you live in America or are an English-speaking person, and therefore who are walking with their Bible in hand, with love for the Lord's Word in their heart, and seeking to obey God carefully and scripturally and continually. The Blessed Man Psalm 1 The Blessed Man Psalm 119. He is one who is undefiled in the way, who walks in the law of the Lord. Verse 9, Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee, O let me not wonder from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee. Let me borrow the words of the songwriter. This book will keep us from sin, and sin will keep us from this book. How about your life, Christian? Are you in love with your Bible? Are you the blessed man refusing the counsel of the ungodly and rejoicing with delight in the word of the Lord? I pray it is so with you, and I pray for it to be so with me.
