Esther chapter 4 Romans chapter three, and I want to read one little verse over here in the book of Ephesians tonight, and I think that'll be sufficient for the reading of the word of God.
Esther, chapter number four. I'm almost positive that everyone in here is familiar with the story of Esther. For those that are not, it's an amazing story in the word of God where his name is not even mentioned. But he's on every single page. And I want to look tonight at this particular passage in chapter four.
We know that that the king of Persia had a feast. His queen Baschi did not submit to the commands of the king. And so there's been a contest has been raised for a new queen. They've searched all the providence of the empire and brought in different young ladies, virgins. And this one particular one, God had his hand on a young Hebrew lady named Hadassah in Hebrew and then her Persian name Esther. And so she has now become queen over all of the land of Persia, this large empire.
Let's pick up here. And what's take place? There's another character that's come in. His name is Haman. Haman was a wicked man and Esther's uncle's name is Mordecai. And he sat at the king's gate and he would not give reverence to this. This Haman, he got very jealous, angry and wrath. He devised a plan to kill all the Jews, all these people, which that and also included Esther. And so Mordecai gets word to Esther. after Haman had conceived the plan to have all the Jews killed. And so a letter goes out. This letter is written in stamp and sealed by the king's own ring. It means just as if the king had sent it himself. Letter goes out to every single providence in all of the empire of Persia. And as they receive this letter, There's a great fear that falls on the Jewish people. The letter is that of death. And Mordecai is bringing word to this where we pick up in the story to Esther.
And Esther is now going to return. She understands about what's taking place of the letter to kill and slay, destroy all the Jewish people. And now this is her response. She gave commandment unto Mordecai in verse 11. And all the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces do know that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king, unto the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden scepter. And he may live, but I have not been called to come into the king these 30 days. And they told Mordecai Esther's words.
Look at verse number one of chapter five. And it came to pass on the third day that Esther put on her royal apparel and stood in the inner court of the king's house over against the king's house. And the king set upon his royal throne in the royal house over against the gate of the house. And it was so when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court that she obtained favor in his sight. And the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther drew near and touched the top of the scepter. And the king said unto her, What wilt thou, Queen Esther? And what is thy request? It shall be given thee to half the kingdom. And Esther answered, if it seemed good to the king, that the king and Haman come this day to the banquet that I prepared for him. Let's look over here in the book of Romans, chapter three, and we'll read just a couple of verses. Romans three and verse number 19. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight. For by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Let's look down in verse number 23. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. being justified by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood. to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are passed through the forbearance of God, to declare, I say at this time, his righteousness, that he might be just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Now, we look over here to the book of Ephesians. And I want to look at a verse of Scripture In chapter number three. In Paul's recorded prayer, he says this. In verse number 16, that he would grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might by his spirit and the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that ye being rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height. And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
And all of these texts and all of the scripture throughout the entire word of God, we find that Christ is the key from cover to cover. The subject matter is Jesus. We spoke last night a little bit about all the fullness of the Godhead dwelleth in the body of Jesus Christ. Talk a little bit about a his humanity this week and how special the connection we have with him becoming man. although he was fully deity and God, how that connected us to him and enables us to live a victorious Christian life.
There are things that our mind is able to comprehend. Some things like justification. We're able to understand that in a judicial setting that God has justified us in Christ. just as if we have never sinned, as that filter God looks through Christ and sees that atoning blood upon the mercy seat, crying forgiven. And the same and in the same atmosphere, the angels can cry, holy, holy, holy. I'm grateful that God in his dealings with Christ, never one time did he step out of his holiness, never one time that he shook away from any one of his attributes. But he was always God and all of his dealings.
Now, what we find here in this unique setting is this plea that Paul has stated for his for his people, for these believers in Ephesus. There are some things that he would desire for them to see and to know. He knows they're maturing. He knows they're growing in the grace of God, just like just about every other epistle he writes. His desire is to see every body of believers come into a state of full maturity. to see them well rounded in the grace of God. And Paul writes to this church and his plea in the beginning in his first prayer in chapter one, that the eyes of their understanding being enlightened. We know that Jesus spoke to Peter and said, Simon Barjona, he said, Blessed be thou, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood hath not revealed these things to you. But my father, which is in heaven, he was the one that showed you these things.
There are some things in the corporate body when we look at Christ that is beyond knowledge. That is what we're not able to comprehend by our own ability. It is truth that is revealed as Christ stood upon the Mount Transfiguration, as we spoke about earlier in the week, when he revealed himself to those lowly disciples.
And I'm grateful that God in His providence, if you like that word, or in His sovereignty, if you like that word, choose whichever one you want to. It just simply means in a country way, God does what He wants to, when He wants to. He don't take counsel from nobody. And when He chooses to reveal Himself, it's a glorious thing.
I'm glad that Christ is still able to reveal Himself unto us. I remember as a child there in the church I was raised in, I spoke a little about it last night, when he revealed himself unto me as a lost boy. For we see the revelation of Jesus Christ is salvation.
But we come here to this text and Paul says that you might be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height. and to know the love of Christ. And this knowledge of the love of Christ has some angles to be understood. And yet it says, which passeth knowledge.
So I want us to Hold up your Bible tonight. If you have your Bible, I want you to hold up your Bible. I want you to look with me what it says. It says that we may be able to comprehend what is the breadth. If we have our Bible and we say, well, what is the breadth? Can we agree that this is the breadth of the Bible?
And then it says that we may also comprehend what is the length. Can we agree tonight that this would be the length of the Bible? And then we come down to here where it says and comprehend what is the depth of the Bible. Can we agree that this would be the depth of the Bible?
And then it says that we may be able to comprehend what is the height of his love.
Lord, for every time that you've heard me pray, I just want to thank you, Lord, for always being there. As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
