In Mark 14, 24, Jesus said to
them, This is the blood of the new covenant, which is shed for
many. Jesus is establishing the Lord's Supper in which we remember
the shedding of Jesus' blood and His dying on the cross for
our sins. And we also look forward to His second coming. This is
not an act which can do anything to save us or contribute to it,
but the drinking of the cup is a picture of the shedding of
His blood. Jesus is putting the new covenant in place in which
those who trust in the shed blood of Christ by His dying on the
cross, being buried, and rising the third day will become a child
of the King. That's 1 Corinthians chapter 15, verse 3 and 4. We
who have believed in Him for salvation should celebrate this
fact of all that He did for us to forgive our sins and remember
that He is coming again. Those who have not trusted in
Him should trust Him now. John 3, 16, for God so loved
the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
