Good morning. When Christ was
tempted by Satan in the Mount of Temptation and Satan invited
him for the stones to be turned to bread, He responded, man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded from the
mouth of the Lord. deben ser satisfechas por el
poder de la gracia de Dios que actúa por medio de su palabra. Jesus was affirming to him that
even though the humans have many needs, the most important of
those is the need of the Word of God. Jesus was affirming that
man can fulfill his most important purpose, not following the sinful
desires of the heart or the desires of our own soul, But rather by hearing and obeying
what we hear in the words of the Holy Scriptures. The history
of mankind shows us that when a society lives according to
the words of the Gospel, According to the light that shines
upon us from the words of Holy Scripture, mortifying the sinful
deeds of the heart, Y han aprendido a vivir para
la gloria de Dios. When they have learned to live
according to the glory of God. Avanzando el reino de Cristo
por todas partes. Advancing the kingdom of Christ
throughout all parts of the world. Estas sociedades han progresado
en todos los aspectos de la vida. Such societies have prospered
in every aspect of life. Lastimosamente en Latinoamérica,
Unfortunately, in much part of Latin America, the saving effects
of the sacred scriptures have not been seen much, despite the
fact that the Roman Catholic Church has been for many centuries there. For many centuries, the Word
of God was hidden and kept under a rock, as it were, because of
the effects of the Roman Catholic Church. More than a century ago, the
Word of God came to Latin America through the help of North American
missionaries. And through that method, many
people began to know the Holy Word of God in many parts of
the continent. But the noxious effects of the
higher criticism, that is the critical textual people, also arrived a long time ago
to Latin America, with an avalanche of translations
and versions of the Holy Bible, which were translated from many
spurious and very questionable manuscripts of Scripture. This has caused much confusion
to the reader of the Bible in Latin America. Since these translations
differ one from the other in many places, since they also
do not contain many important passages of scripture. And many of these versions of
the Bible have been translated in a language that is very common,
a very common street language we'll call it. And this has changed very much
the meaning of the message that is brought up by these scriptures.
And the solemnity of the scriptures has been suppressed. But we have
good news as well. The Lord has been providing a
great revival in all corners of Latin America. And there are
many more people who are having a desire, an ardent desire to
read the Holy Scriptures. Many pastors are very concerned
to have the proper translation and the proper readings in the
Holy Bible. I am the president of a reformed seminary in Latin
America. And I can assure you that there
are many pastors who are concerned about having a proper and good
translated Bible in Spanish. And they're concerned about having
good expository preaching of the Holy Scriptures. So in such a context, the work
of the Trinitarian Bible Society becomes very important. And in
this context, since we are just finishing with the revision of
the Reina Valera Spanish Bible, Esto se convierte en un baluarte
ferreo que el Espíritu Santo usará. This has become a strong
fortress that the Lord, that the Holy Spirit will use in Latin
America. Para dar más solidez al pueblo
cristiano latinoamericano. To give firmness and surety to
the Christian Church in Latin America. Y preservar así la fe
evangélica histórica. and to thus preserve the historic
evangelical faith. There are many pastors and theologians
who are returning to the old received text, the text of receptus,
behind the scriptures which underlies the scriptures. And I would encourage all those
who support this work to continue to do so prayerfully, to continue
supporting this very necessary work. I hope to give a brief report
regarding just one country in Latin America regarding the work
of the Society. In the past year, we've been
able to distribute only in Colombia more than 22,000 New Testaments,
Spanish New Testaments. More than 41,000 gospel according to John.
More than 30,000 words of life calendars. More than 21,000 golden thoughts
calendars in Spanish. And more than 40,000 scripture
leaflets with verses from the New Testament. In a country such
as Colombia, where drug trafficking has affected
so much our society, When people have an opportunity
to read the Bible that is in a translation that is clear and
trustworthy, They are exposed to the gospel
of the Lord Jesus Christ. And we have the testimony of
drug traffickers who have been prisoners, have had the opportunity to read
the word of the Bible, and they've been transformed by the power
of the Holy Spirit. So again, we wish to say thank
you. What you are doing through the
work of the Trinitarian Bible Society has an incredible impact
in the rest of the world.
