Is Your Mind Being Transformed
Series Sermons on Ephesians
If you have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are no longer living in darkness of sin and ignorance, but you are walking in the light of the Lord. The apostle Paul is speaking here in these verses about your walk with Christ. He is saying in verse 17 that if you have been illumined to the truth of God's word, you should not walk (you should not live your life) as the rest of the Gentiles live, in the futility of your mind. What does that mean? Where does their futility of mind come from? It comes from the fact that sin blinds the mind of every person, by nature, who does not know Christ. They do not perceive His glory. What they need is Christ by His Holy Spirit to transform their mind. Your mind must be transformed by Christ's grace so that you no longer love sin, and you desire to walk in the light with the Lord Jesus who is the Light. How does this happen? How does this come? Let me give you 3 ways in which this transformation will come to your mind if you believe in Christ. 1st – The transformation of your mind comes from God's enlightening your understanding. 2nd – Transformation comes from your turning away from sensuality to embrace the better things which the Spirit brings. And 3rd – Transformation comes from your learning Christ. As you are being transformed, I pray that you will also learn to pity the lost people around you, and think of how you can bring the gospel to them, so that they might be saved.
