thee in the day of trouble. The name God of Jacob defend
thee. Send thee help from the sanctuary
and strengthen thee out of Zion. Remember all thy offerings except
thy burnt sacrifice, Selah. Grant thee according to thine
own heart and fulfill all thy counsel. We will set up our banners. Thought
it interesting that we sang about marching on banner of the cross.
The Lord fulfill all thy petitions. Now know, I, that the Lord saveth
his anointed. He will hear him from his holy

and I'm so thankful for the cross of Calvary. So thankful to know
that I'm saved and on my way to heaven. Dear God, thank you
for the gift of salvation. Lord, we come before you today
a needy people. We live in a time of uncertainty,
a time of great stress and doubt and uncertainty that lies before
us as a nation and as a people. Even as your people, God, there
can be a carryover that affects our lives. Lord, as David, wrote
this wonderful psalm, I pray that we might take refuge from
it and find help even for the way that we are living here in
2024. Lord, I believe your return is
soon and I pray for it to happen even today if it be your will
that you would allow it to happen even now. What a wonderful thing. Anticipating, Lord, that maybe
we all can go in the rapture to be gathered together with
you. Lord, meet with us here this morning, allow the Holy
Spirit to have power and freedom to move in our lives. And all the people said, you
may be seated. So one person wrote that this
is a prayer for victory in battle. Such prayer can help us to prepare
for any great challenge. David knew that trust should
be placed in the Lord more than in human power. David was a man
of war who kept his trust in the Lord. And we live in a world
where spiritual war is a rarity. into these last days that there's
going to be more and more spiritual warfare that we will have to
fight. When you do, remember what God
did for David, he will do also for you. Got three points here
today, and the first one is a prayer probable. Where else do you turn
in time of need but to prayer? That ought to be the place that
the Christian runs to. And here, David, in verse number
one, he runs to God in the first three verses, I think, and we
read, the Lord hear thee in the day of trouble, the name of God
of Jacob defend thee. So he starts with that phrase,
the Lord hear thee in the day of trouble, Where else should
we turn? Where else should we go? In the
day of trouble, we need to turn to God. He ought to be the first
place the Christian thinks about going is to God. God, here I
am, and it may be like you're there every day or maybe every
hour of the day, but that's okay. God wants you to come to him.
God, here I am, and I've got this need. Here's the reality
of my life, and here's the issue, and here's the problem, and here's
the trial. God, I need your help. David turns to God and he pours
his heart out to God and he says to God, hear thee in the day
of trouble. God, in my time of need, I'm turning to you. In
my time of uncertainty, I'm turning to you. The reality is that every
day that we ought to be turning to the Lord in prayer, even for
the simplest of things, the simplest of things. We ought to pray every
morning when we get up, God, thank you that I made it through
another night. Thank you that I'm still alive.
God, give me breath today. Give me wisdom today. Lead in
my life and use me for your glory. We're to pray seeking his guidance. Seeking his guidance. God, what
would you have me to do today? Or maybe there's a decision that
needs to be made. Listen, don't ever make a decision
without turning to God. He ought to be the first place
we turn to. God, I need your help. Help me
to make wise choices and decisions. Many times as I pray, seeking
God's wisdom in making decisions, I always pray, God, give me wisdom
beyond myself. Because I know in me I don't
have enough wisdom. I need God's help. We ought to
pray seeking his deliverance. God, deliver me today from those
things that will come my way that might hinder my growth with
you or my walk for you or that might present a temptation that
I don't want in my life and I don't need in my life. God, give me
deliverance. And then if we find ourselves
in the midst of a temptation, we ought to pray, God, deliver
me from this and run, run, run. We ought to seek his provision.
Seek his provision. I've met individuals who are
pretty, they think I don't need God, I've got money. I don't
need God, I'm pretty healthy. I don't need God to fill it in,
whatever. I'm telling you, you need his
provision, not only in the financial realm of life, but we need his
provision in our health, we need his provision in leadership,
we need his provision. He says, the name of the God
of Jacob defend thee. I like that. I like someone to
defend me. That's why I hired Lalo to come
defend me. Actually, actually, I've got
the youngest black belt in Kansas as my defender. Matthew's off
in another part of the building, but I'm telling you, you're ever
gonna take preacher on, Matthew's gonna stand in front of him.
Kid, man, I'm telling you, it's amazing. God's blessed that little
guy. But isn't it good to know that
if no one else is around, God's there. God defends me. Oh, hey, you know, we could go,
man, someone, you know, they're talking bad about me, and they're
talking smack about me, and they're doing this, and they're doing
that. Hey, just turn God loose on them. God, you're my defender,
I'm not gonna worry about it. Matter of fact, I had a friend
one time that said, I never answer critics, I let God take care
of it. He just refused to lower himself
to get involved with that, I'll just let God defend me. David
knew God would hear and answer his prayer, because God had done
it for him many times before. Isn't it good to look back on
your life and say, I had that issue, and I had that problem,
I had this issue, and I had that problem, and I prayed, and I
saw God's face, and I prayed, and saw God's face, and I prayed,
and I saw God's face, and God worked in a way that only God
could work. Those are the type of prayers
I love to see answered. God's the only one who can do
the work, and everybody else would turn away and say, it's
impossible. God says, oh, just turn to me.
All things are possible with me. The first place every Christian
ought to turn is to the Lord. No greater defender than the
Lord. No greater defender than the
Lord. Send thee help in the sanctuary
and strength of Zion. I believe that's verse two. Remember, David would be praying
for help of the Lord, referenced two of the places on earth that
the Lord was seen among the children of Israel, places of acknowledgement
where they would say, well, this is the sanctuary of God or the
mount of God, but the sanctuary in Zion. In the area we live,
in the era in which we live, we have direct access to God
through prayer. Isn't it good to know that we're
not, David was bound in the Old Testament. He didn't have the
avenue of prayer that we have. We have direct access to God.
He would pray and he would turn to God, but I'm telling you,
if David looked today, if David was here, he'd go, man, you guys
have it so much better than I do because you have that direct
access. You've even been told to come boldly to the throne
of grace, that we might seek Him, that we might know Him.
And it's good to know that God is everywhere we go, that He's
there to hear and answer our prayer. He is our help. Remember
all thy offerings and accept burnt sacrifice. Again, David,
under the law of the Old Testament, would have to bring sacrifices
that were required for sin and for just the issues of his life. He was to bring these sacrifices
and these offerings and offer them up before the Lord. It's
great to know that now in the New Testament, there's no more
sacrifices. except if a man would make the
sacrifice to say, Lord, here I am. Here I am a living sacrifice. Isn't that really what God wants
in Romans chapter 12, one, two? Present your bodies a living
sacrifice? Would it be that every day as
a child of God, we might say, God, here I am, a living sacrifice. Here I am today, God, use me
for your glory. Fill me with your spirit and
use me as you would see fit. It's great to know that we're
not required to bring sacrifices, that our salvation doesn't hinge
upon the blood offerings, but that Jesus paid the price that
all mankind might have their sins forgiven and that heaven
can be our eternal home. Hallelujah. And he ends it with
Selah. Selah is like an amen. or one
writer I was reading after yesterday said, stop, look, and listen. You see, we live in a fast society,
don't we? Life goes too quick. My wife
and I, we've got a joke at the house, and we'll look at each
other and go, it's Wednesday. And then we'll look at each other
and go, it's Sunday. It's like, that's what our lives hinge off
of, Wednesday and Sunday, Wednesday and Sunday, Wednesday and Sunday.
The life of a preacher, he's always getting ready. He's always
striving towards that next point that he's gonna be preaching.
It's Wednesday or Sunday, Wednesday or Sunday. And if we're not careful,
though, we can fall into that whole idea that, man, life is
just flying by, and things are getting by, and we fail to recognize
that, hey, I just need to stop in the prayer, Stop, look, and listen. Listen. Have you ever been asked a question?
So, back to when I'm a mechanic. I'd have a younger mechanic come
over and they go, How do you change like this water pump? The Cadillac 4100 was a real
notorious water pump because it had like six different size
bolts, and it was all aluminum. So as you took those bolts out,
you better have some way to mark them, okay? You get a young guy
who didn't know, man, he'd just start ripping bolts out. He'd
go, whoa, whoa, whoa, stop, stop. You've got to take those out
in Pacific order because if you don't, you're going to puncture
the water jacket. You're going to ruin the motor.
But you'd have a young kid come by. So how do I do this? And
you explain it to him. And you'd walk by five minutes
later, and he wouldn't be doing anything that you told him. So
I'd be like, well, next time he asks, I'm not going to have
time to tell him because he won't listen. He won't listen. Sometimes people
come in for counseling, they wanna know this, they wanna know
that. And you tell them and they walk out and they're gonna do
it their way. They won't listen. So it's like
time's worth something, right? If you don't have time to listen,
if you don't have time to apply, then why are you begging people
to give up their time that you're not gonna listen? But listen,
listen. God is always there. Isn't it
good to know that I can stop in the middle of my busy day
and call out to God, say, God, would you speak to me? And just
stop and listen. Sometimes it requires I pick
up my Bible. Sometimes there's a thought that
comes into my mind and God brings verses back to my mind that I've
studied or that I've memorized and he's ministering to me because
I've stopped in the busyness of it all and just listened to
what God wanted to say. Stop, look, and listen. Second
thing is a prayer of provision. It's a look back. Verses four
and five. Grant thee according to thine
own heart and fulfill all thy counsel. We will rejoice in thy
salvation in the name of the Lord. We will set up our banners. The Lord fulfilleth all thy petitions. So he says, grant thee. recognize
that the Lord's will needs to be done, that we would say, God,
this is a need that I have, and God, I'm coming to you, and I
would ask that you would grant this prayer, but God, on the
same time, I want your will to be done. God, I want you to fulfill
your will, but God, this is the request that I have. If it would
be within your will that you might touch this person and heal
them or that you might help in this time of need, this issue,
this problem that I'm walking through. I know what. God, I'm turning to you. Grant
me, though, according to your own heart and fulfill all thy
counsel. God'll never go against his counsel,
by the way. God'll never go against himself,
but he's more than willing through his word to help share with us
his counsel and his help. And we will rejoice in thy salvation. I don't think there should be
a day go by in the life of a Christian that we don't rejoice in our
salvation. Now with that said, let me go
back to scripture for a minute because the salvation that I
think he's really speaking of here is the salvation from his
enemies and the issues of life. Now let's jump ahead to where
we are. I don't think there should be a day go by that we're not
happy about our salvation. When I think about all that God
delivered me from, goodnight, Miss Tiffany, what a song. What
a song, it spoke to my heart. I mean, I can relate so much
to that song, the uncertainty of life and the issues and the
problems, and I don't deserve what God gave me, but I'm so
thankful that I'm saved. I'm so thankful that he gave
the answers to problems and issues. I'm so thankful that he was there.
I'm so thankful for my salvation. And we need to be careful lest
we ever lose the joy of our salvation. If we lose joy of our salvation,
we need to cut out time for God and say, God, I'm not leaving
until you give me joy of my salvation again. I want that joy, I wanna
know what it's like. You know what he might do? He
might tell you to get a handful of tracts and go stand on the
corner and give them out to people, because the greatness of the
joy of salvation I've ever experienced is when I'm sharing the gospel
and someone prays the sinner's prayer and they get saved and
I'm like, oh, I know exactly what happened to them. I know
exactly what happened. It's kind of like these young
parents walking around with these babies. Man, I'm telling you,
that little Miles guy and Liam, they are going to be a handful
when they get to walking, I'm telling you. But I look at those
little guys, matter of fact, I made the statement today, man,
it makes me wish I could have one. It does. But I'm also thankful as grandpa
that I get to send them back home, amen? So I guess I should
say I'm thankful they got them. But I'm telling you, young couples
hanging around, and one of them have a baby, and next thing you
know, it's kind of, hey, we got a baby, maybe, yeah. And if they
got a baby, maybe we ought to have a baby. And it kind of gets
contagious and in the water. Anybody want to sign up? I see a lot of heads shaking.
That's because you're raising them. Telling you, the joy of our salvation
ought to be contagious. Maybe if we'd witness to a few
more people and we'd see them saved, it would remind us, oh
yeah, I remember what that was like. I look at these guys and
I go, I remember what it was like to have that baby and hold
them for the first time, what a joy. But then you gotta raise
them. But to see someone accept Christ
and pray the sinner's prayer and to get up with that joy,
it just goes, oh, it was worth it. It was worth all those people
who took my tracks and never paid attention or maybe would
even curse me or throw them on the ground. It was worth it all
when that one said, yes, Jesus, come into my heart, forgive me
of my sins and save me today. It's worth it all right then.
Worth it all right then. we might rejoice in our salvation. Every day we ought to pray, God,
help me to rejoice in my salvation. Show me how I ought to rejoice
in my salvation. Thank you that my sins are forgiven,
that heaven's my eternal home. No matter what happens today,
I'm gonna go be with Jesus one day. I love this. We set up banners. Banners were
many times set up in preparation for war. They were as a rallying
point for warriors. They would set up their banners
as the armies would gather and as they would go off into war,
the different groups would be under a banner as they would
lead them away. You know, if we set up banners
today in our Christian life, they might look like, forgiven. Well, that's a great banner.
Redeemed. Well, that's a great banner.
I like this one. Joint heir of Jesus Christ. What a banner, amen? But here's
the good news. All our banners replaced with
the one, the cross. The cross. There's no Jesus on that cross. He's seated at the right hand
of the throne of God. This cross is a banner, an emblem, it's
a picture of what's happened. And the cross is a rugged testament
to the fact that Jesus there shed his blood that all mankind
might be saved. We as children of God wouldn't
be thankful for the cross, and it ought to be a banner that
we live by. It ought to be a banner as we head out of the house.
Today, I'm going to fly my banner. I'm going to let everyone see
my banner of the cross. I'm going to be reminded as I'm
holding my banner, as I'm carrying my banner, I'm not my own anymore. I'm the Lord's. He bought me.
He paid the price. I'm no longer living for myself.
I'm walking under the banner of the cross. Mighty causes just
to live each and every day. God, I'm living for you, I'm
serving you, I'm thankful for my salvation. God, I'm walking
under the banner of the cross. That leads us to our third point,
the prayer of praise. The prayer of praise. David recognized
the great value of answered prayer and I would think that 95% of
us here today would recognize the great value of answered prayer.
David says in verse number six, now know I that the Lord saveth
his anointed. He will hear him from his holy
heaven and the saving strength of his right hand. God is not
too busy to not be touched by our prayers. God cares. Isn't that good to know? God
cares. Man, it seems like no one else
cares. No one else answers the phone. No one else has time for
me. Jesus does. He cares. He tells us to come
boldly to the throne of grace, making our requests known to
him. We can go to him knowing that he's there to hear our prayers
and to answer according to his will. Then verse seven, some
trust in chariots. and summon horses, but we will
remember the name of the Lord our God." Listen, we're living
in a world that's trusting in chariots and in horses. They're
trusting in strength of the world. They're trusting in the cares
of this world. Listen, child of God, don't fall
into that. Don't fall into that. Our trust
is in the Lord. Don't let it fall over into the
world. Listen, we are to be separate from the world. That means there's
to be a division. We ought to look different, we
ought to talk different, we ought to act different, we ought to
be different than the world. Too many Christians today, they
want to be undercover Christians. I don't want to stand out, it
might cost me. People might ridicule me, people
might make fun of me, that's okay. Remember what Jesus said? Jesus said, you're not here for
a love campaign. He said, they hated me. They'll
hate you too. They'll hate you too. So don't
go sucking up, thinking, well, you know, I just want to blend.
I want to blend with everybody. Maybe you ought to stand up and
be a witness and a testimony. Separate from the world. But
we remember the name of the Lord, because he will never Fail. Some trust in chariots, some
in horses, their strength, their wisdom, the world, but I'm not
gonna do that. I remember the name of the Lord
our God. I remember what he's done for
me. Isaiah 31 three says, now the Egyptians are men and not
God. Just mark that down. You just
take the Egyptians out and put anybody in there you want. The
Egyptians are men and not God, and their horses flesh and not
spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out
his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is hopin'
shall fall down, and they shall fail together. They shall all
fail together. Put your trust in the world,
put your trust in horses, put your trust in chariots, put your
trust in the Egyptians. Jesus is coming. I don't wanna be hub nubbing
with them. I wanna be living for him. I don't want him to
call and me come from the place I shouldn't be coming from. I
want to be looking for his soon return. I want to be living for
his soon return. So back in the day, we grew up
on 10 acres and the neighbors were quite a distance from the
house. And there'd be times we'd ask
to go to the neighbors and it would have to be okay with the
neighbor's parents if we could go over. But sometimes we'd just
sneak off. Sometimes we just sneak away.
I'm telling you, when Mama came out and called, it was amazing
the call that she had. It'd be like from here to the
end of the street over at the neighbor's house. But when Mama
started calling, it was like, oh, oh, oh, how am I going to
get back without Mama knowing that I was over here where I
shouldn't be? Mamas have eyes in the back of
their head. I know it. Try to sneak in. Listen, there
are gonna be a lot of Christians gonna wanna sneak in on Jesus.
He already sees. He already knows. I just encourage
you, just walk with Jesus. Don't trust the world. Don't
be drawn to them. Their way will fail. It's gonna
fail. It's gonna fall apart. So many
illustrations, but I'm gonna let them go. Because I don't
wanna get political. Verse eight. They are brought
down and fallen. Hope we get this. But we are
risen and stand upright. Listen, if you get sucked into
the world and you get sucked into their living and you get
sucked into their mode, listen, that's what happened a lot as
they moved into Sodom and Gomorrah. They got sucked into living.
You find them outside living in a tent. Before long, they're
living down on Walmart Drive. And they're living there and
here comes the angels. And men grope at the door all
night long because of the homosexuality and the sin that was all the
perversion around them. And the next day they say, look,
we're going to destroy this. You better get your family together.
And when Lot went to talk to his son-in-laws and his daughters,
they mocked him. He failed in his family. No wonder
he failed in the community. because he didn't step up and
say, it is my responsibility to see that my children know
about God, that they learn about God, that they might love God,
it's my responsibility. Wasn't Mrs. Lott's responsibility,
it was Lott's responsibility. There was responsibility before
her, but it really rested upon his head. So what happens? So they leave. And the daughters
and the son-in-laws stay behind. They're destroyed. And as they're
leaving, Ms. Lotz, so in love with her house
and all the fine things that she had, she goes, this is stupid.
I can just hear her all the way out the gate. This is the dumbest
thing you've ever led us to do. The dumbest decision you've ever
made. It would make a great sitcom for TV today. Because a man's
always made to look like a moron. Let me just tell you this, man.
Sometimes leading is not fun, but it's necessary. Sometimes, listen, we are to
guide our homes, right? I never will forget, did one
wedding here, and I get to the point where the wife says in
the vows that she'll submit to her husband, and afterwards her
family made fun of her. You're gonna submit to your husband?
That's kind of what the scripture says. But they need a man they
can follow. A man who loves God, who seeks
God, who wants to walk with God. A man who's more interested in
pleasing God than pleasing appetites and pleasing themselves. A man who'd rather be found when
God comes, walking uprightly and standing justly, rather than
being back over here in the world, letting his wife just lead him
around to all these different things and all the things that
kids might wanna do. Well, what do you wanna do, kids?
Where do you wanna go, kids? What about you, kids? Listen,
be a man, just lead. Amen, preacher, come on, give
us some of that. They were brought down and fallen,
but we are risen and stand upright. Their horses and their chariots
that they trust in were done. Listen, be reminded of this,
one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that
Jesus is Lord. Every, not some, not most, every
knee. I don't care if they've been
president of the free world. I don't care if they've been
the greatest entertainer ever. I'm telling you, every knee will
bow the knee that day in the presence of my Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. Verse nine. Save, Lord. Let the king hear
us when we call. Now this, to me, this was the
most exciting, yet as I read it, I see king is just small,
small king there. But I'm telling you, it was most
exciting to me, because there's no place better to turn than
to the Lord. David says, let the king hear
us when we call. Look with me if you would, take
your Bibles, turn to Revelations chapter 19. Clear at the end of the book,
you get to concordance, you've gone too far. Revelation 19. Verse number 11. And I saw heaven opened, and
behold, a white horse. Got my boots on today. Are you
ready to go riding? I'm ready to go riding. I'm not
gonna ride this white horse, though. It's already a God rider.
And he that sat upon him was called faithful and true, and
in righteousness he doth judge and make war. Isn't it good to
know we have a righteous judge? His eyes were as a flame of fire,
and on his head were many crowns. And he had a name written that
no man knew but he himself. I can't imagine what that name's
gonna be. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood,
and his name is called the Word of God. And the armies which
were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine
linen, white and clean. That's us. You're a child of
God. That's us. And out of his mouth
goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations,
and he shall rule them with a rod of iron. And he treadeth the
winepress of the fierceness of the wrath of Almighty God. And
he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King
of kings and Lord of lords. And I saw an angel standing in
the sun, and he crieth with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls
that fly in the midst of heaven, come and gather yourselves together
unto the supper of the great God. that ye may eat the flesh
of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men,
and the flesh of horses, and of them that sat on them, and
the flesh of men, both free and bond, both small and great. I'm so thankful that the King
of Kings hears my prayers. I'm so thankful for the Lord
of Lords, and how instrumental he is in leading my life as I
submit myself to him. God, I want to be in the center
of your will. I want you to lead me. I want you to guide me. God,
I want you to lead and guide in all that I do. Why? Well,
he's king of kings, lord of lords. Who better to choose? Oh, well,
I can choose for myself. Pardon the English, but are you
a moron? The king of kings can help you
choose? but you know more than he does? That just doesn't make sense.
Our prayer would be, God, I don't know, but I know you, and I know
that you're the Lord, and you're God, and you're the king of kings,
and God, I pour my heart out before you, and I need you to
help me, I need you to lead me, I need you to guide me. God,
I just wanna be surrendered to you. I want to be in the center
of what you have for me to do. God, lead in my life. No greater
joy than to know that you're in the center of where God wants
you to be. No greater joy. Lalo gets to
turn 25 this week. No one asked, but no, I wouldn't
want to trade with him. I've already taken all my bumps.
Well, most of my bumps. I'm sure there'll be a few more
before this life is over. He's got a lot of learning to
do, but Lalo, just keep going to him. That's what you gotta
do. Keep turning to him, turn to
him. Daily, God help me, lead me, guide me, I don't know, I
don't know what to do, but God, show me through your word, lead
in my life, show me where to go. Be the best thing you can
ever do. Well, the skies look all dark,
it looks so ominous, there's problems on every turn, what
do I do? Turn to God. That's the best
thing you can do. He's the only one that knows.
He knows the end from the beginning. Turn to God, let God give you
the wisdom, the insight that you need as you live for him.
Lord Jesus, I love you, and I thank you that Psalm 20 is in the Bible. I thank you that you had David
pen it for us, that here in 2024, in the midst of all that's going
on in our nation, that we can turn to you and say, yeah, God's
been God all this time, God's still God, I'm just gonna walk
with him. I'm just gonna let him lead me, I'm gonna let him
guide me, I'm gonna run my race to please him, not anyone else. Lord, thank you for your goodness,
your love. Take this invitation, use it for your glory. If there's
one that's lost today, might they come to the saving knowledge
of Jesus? We ask these things in your name.
Amen. Would you stand with me today?
The Lord has spoken to your heart. I encourage you to come. We're
going to sing, I Surrender All. God has spoken to your heart.
Would you come? Brother Foster, if you would. All to Jesus I surrender, all
to Him I freely give. I will ever love and trust Him
in His presence daily live. I surrender all. I surrender all. All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender, humbly
at his feet I bow. Early pledgers all forsaken,
take me, Jesus, take me now. Good to be in the Lord's house today. Brother
