Paul: Servant, Sent, Set Apart
Series Romans
The apostle Paul, also known by his Hebrew name Saul, was a remarkable man and God used him as a spokesman for the gospel. Paul never lost sight of the grace of God in his life, however, and always acknowledged that it was Christ's work in Him that produced the tremendous fruit in his life. Paul understood:
- That he was a servant - a slave of Jesus Christ because he had been purchased by the Lord
- That he was sent - his calling was as an apostle, one who is sent, and he was personally commissioned by the Lord
- That he was set apart - he was selected for a specialized service in the gospel
Although our life circumstances and ministry are not the same as Paul's, some things are the same: we too have been purchased by our Lord and are rightly considered His slaves, even though we are also adopted as sons. We also have a commission from our Savior to preach the gospel to every nation, making disciples wherever we go. We are also set apart for service, no longer to be entangled in this current world, but to be dedicated to the One who has redeemed us, equipped us with spiritual gifts, and placed us into ministry tailored to our abilities and gifts.
