Amen. If you turn your Bibles
tonight to Matthew chapter number 14, Matthew chapter number 14,
I pray that you want the will of God in your life this week.
And I pray that you are searching for the will of God. I pray that
you are searching to do more for Jesus Christ. So I'm going
to ask you the question tonight. Do you want to do more for Jesus?
You know, that's something that it's very easy to say yes. It's
very easy for this voice, this mouth to just proclaim yes. But it's harder for this life
to say yes. So I ask you the question again,
do you want to do more for Jesus? The second question I ask you
tonight is why? Why would you want to do more
for Jesus? You know, I think that there
are so many things in our life that keep us from having revival
that holds us back. Sin is one of the major things
that hold us back from revival. Our lack of desire for drawing
closer to God, that keeps us from revival. The lack of importance
of seeing what revival really is in our life, that keeps us
from having revival. And I believe most of the times
we hold ourselves back because we get stuck in something. We
get stuck. We get stuck with the things
of this life. We get stuck in sin. We get stuck in compromise. We get stuck in doubt. We get
stuck in fear. We even get stuck in bitterness.
And it stops us from having revival in our own lives. So tonight
is a time for us to examine ourselves and ask ourselves, is there something
that we are stuck in that is keeping us from having revival? Because I believe that every
single individual in this auditorium tonight and every single individual
that's listening can actually have revival if they're a Christian.
They can have revival in their hearts. They can have revival
in their lives. I believe that we have access
to that revival, but sometimes we stop it. We get stuck in something. We don't get to the point to
where we are having revival in our lives because we are stuck. And so tonight, I want us to
look at a passage of scripture and I want us to ask ourselves
the question, is there something that is keeping us from revival
tonight? And I pray that you're asking
yourself that question. Don't ask it about your neighbor.
Don't ask it about your mate. Don't ask it about your kids.
Ask it about yourself. Is something in my life keeping
me from revival? Let's pray. Father, I thank you
so much again for the opportunity to be out here on a Monday night.
Lord, I thank you for all these people that have come out. Father,
I pray that you will cleanse me of sin. Lord, I pray that
you will help me as I preach your holy word. Lord, I pray
that every word that comes out of my mouth will be yours. And
Lord, I pray that tonight that we will examine ourselves. Lord,
I know that you want revival in our hearts. I know it. Lord,
your entire word is just relating to that. And Lord, I just pray
tonight that we will search our hearts and ask ourselves, Lord,
speak to my heart, Lord. Show me some things that I can
do to better myself for you. Lord, I want to do more for Jesus
tonight. Lord, I don't want to just talk
about it anymore. I want to do more for you because
you did everything for me. Lord, you held nothing back for
us. You gave your entire life for us. Lord, help us to see
the importance of giving our entire life for you. Lord, we
love you. We praise you in Jesus name.
Amen. I want to make a statement for
us to think about. There's a storm raging in our
hearts that keep us from having revival. There's a battle that
goes on within us that keeps us from having revival. I want
revival now. I don't know about you, but I
want revival now. And in this passage of scripture,
We see someone who was willing to step out, and I believe he
experienced something that was miraculous. I believe he experienced
something that was something that I would have wanted to experience,
and I began to think about this passage as we talk about Peter
walking on the water. I remember as a kid, I began
to think about that, and I remember we went up to Lake Gaston, and
we went up to AmeriCamps, and we always tent camped, and if
you never tent camped, you ain't camped. Some people say, well,
I only camp at a camper. Well, that ain't real camping,
amen. Until you've been in a tent camp with all these bugs that
it gets to the point that you feel like they're talking to
you, they're buzzing in your ear so much. But I remember we're sitting
there, and we're in that tent, and we're camping on the shorelines
of Lake Gaston. And I'll never forget, I'm sitting
there, and I'm looking at the water, and I remember the Sunday
school teacher talking about Peter walking on the water. And
I thank God for Sunday school teachers that teach the Bible,
amen? So if you're a Sunday school teacher, thank you for what you
do. And I thank God that the Sunday school teacher taught
me that because I'm sitting there, and we're just sitting by the
campfire, and I'm looking at Dad and Mom, and we're looking
all around, and I'll never forget just thinking to myself, hey,
you know what? I bet you I could walk on water right now. I mean,
there's the water right there in front of me. It's kind of
smooth. It's not rough or anything. I
bet you if I get a good enough run, I can go really fast and
I can get really far on walking on that. And this mind was going.
I mean, I was thinking to myself, I'm gonna get at least halfway
out in the water at least before I start sinking. I mean, as a
young person, you got a lot of faith, amen? You think that you
could do anything as a young person. Well, I'm looking at
my dad, I'm looking at my family, and I'm thinking to myself, hey,
you know what? I could actually walk on water. Now, none of them
looked at me and said, hey, you can't walk on water. I wish they
had of, because of what's going to happen next. You know, I'm
sitting there thinking to myself that I can do it, and they look
at me and say, hey, listen, if you think you can walk on water,
Michael, go right ahead. And so I'll never forget, I said,
OK, fine. So I got as far back as I could. And it was kind of
an incline. And I'm running as fast as I can. And I get out
to the water thinking to myself, I'm going to at least be on the
water for a short period of time. Guess how far I got. Not very
far. I sunk really, really fast and
I got down in the mud and I got down and there was some grass
that was growing underneath the water and I found out that I
could not walk on the water. So you know what I'm gonna do
when I get to heaven? I'm gonna say, Lord, please let me walk on water.
I just wanna experience that of being able to walk on water.
So I was looking at this passage of scripture And I really love
this because I see that Peter was willing to walk out on faith
all because of Jesus Christ. So look in verse number 22, and
let's begin reading and look at this story in the Bible. Now,
this is a story that actually happens, so look at what it says
there. And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to
get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while
he sent the multitude away. And when he had sent the multitude
away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray. And when the evening
was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst
of the sea, tossed with waves, for the wind was contrary. So
here we see, as you continue to read in verse number 25, and
in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went into them, walking
on the sea. And when the disciples saw him
walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a spirit.
And they cried out for fear. So first of all, we begin seeing
the challenging storm here. This was a challenging storm
for the disciples. They're in this boat. The wind
is contrary. It's going all over the place.
Maybe they were fearful for their life, thinking that maybe the
wind will keep going. It'll keep getting worse and
worse. I don't know. If you've ever been on a boat
in the middle of the storm, it ain't no fun, is it? I've been
in the middle of a boat. There's been a storm going on,
and your boat starts rocking all over the place, and you start
getting worried, don't you? You start getting worried. Hey,
listen, is this going to be the end of my life? I don't know
if it was that bad, but they may have gone to think about
that. But here they are. They are in this boat. The wind
is contrary. The Bible says the wind is going
all over the place. And then all of a sudden they
begin to look out and they see someone walking on the water.
Now, I would be fearful if I saw someone walking on the water.
If I'm out there fishing in the middle of the night, or I'm out
there fishing in the evening time, if I'm trying to catch
a fish and I see somebody walking on the water, guess what? I'm
gonna be fearful. I'm gonna be a little scared.
And so here the disciples are in this boat and they're looking
out, the wind is already contrary, the boat is rocking back and
forth, and all of a sudden they see this. So this was a challenging
time for the disciples. And so here they are, they're
all scared. In fact, if you look at verse number 26, the Bible
says they cried out for what? Fear. They were scared of the
situation. They weren't sure what was going
on. They were worried about the situation. And then we begin
to see, as they're worried about the situation, some calming words
come out. Look in verse number 27, the
Bible says, But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of
good cheer, it is I. Be not afraid. Oh, these are
calming words. These are words that are supposed
to bring peace. These are words that are supposed
to bring joy. And so when Jesus Christ was
speaking here, He was speaking so that He could bring joy and
peace to the heart of those disciples during that time. I'll tell you,
in my life, there's been some challenging storms where I needed
to hear God's voice. There have been some times in
my life when things seemed so overwhelming where I needed God's
voice to help calm me down. I don't know about you, but I
need God's words to be able to help me through this life. And
sometimes we get through this life and we start to worry, worry,
worry, and we forget there are some calming words that God wants
to give us in his holy word to be able to help us. to be able
to encourage us, to be able to help us through that. Well, these
were calming words. And then we see in verse number
28, we see him, Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be
thou bid me come unto thee on the water. I love this because
this is Peter looking out and he hears something. Now I want
you to get this very carefully. He hears a voice that sounds
familiar. He hears a voice that sounds
familiar. He's like, wait a minute. I've
heard the voice of that person before. I've heard the voice
of that man speak in my ear before. That voice sounds so familiar.
Hey, that's gotta be my Lord. That's gotta be the Lord Jesus.
And so finally we see there in verse number 28, he calls out
and even calls him Lord. He says in verse number 28, Peter
answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou bid me come unto
thee on the water. Now, I always thought this was
kind of strange at first, thinking to myself, well, Peter, why don't
you just say, hey, Jesus, come on over here? But he was so impatient. He was like, no, I want to come
to you. I mean, that just shows you his love for his savior. It shows you his love for Jesus. It shows you his love for the
voice of Jesus Christ. He was so excited to think to
himself, well, hey, wait a minute. That's my savior. That's the
one that's been with me for all of this time. So you know what?
I know he's got the power to let me go on that water and walk
around with him. That was the faith that Peter
had. And then we get to verse number 29 and we start to see
there's an invitation that's given out. It's a confident,
and there's a confidence in this invitation because look at what
verse number 29 says. And he said, come. So Jesus told
him and said, okay, come on out here. Come on out in the water.
If you want to come on, if you want to do this, you come on
out. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, what does
the Bible say there? He walked on the water to go
to Jesus. Man, I wish I could have experienced
this. I mean, in Lake Anna, I wish I could have kept walking, but
I'm thinking to myself, man, here he is. He sees Jesus out
there. He hears a voice that's very familiar, and he looks out,
and Jesus says, hey, come on out. And so what does he do?
He gets out on that water, and he starts walking. Man, I would
be excited. And you know me, I get a little
bit excited. But I'm really excited, and I'd be looking all around,
and I'd be running all over the place. I'd look at the guys in
the boat and say, hey, look at me. I'm running on the water.
Look what Jesus did. If you heard Peter, he's walking
to Jesus Christ. And Jesus is in the water. on
top of the water and he's walking on the water. And then the Bible
says in verse number 30, but when he saw the wind boisterous,
he was afraid. You see, there was a storm going
on. The storm hadn't stopped yet. The wind was still boisterous. The boat was still rocking. And
so all of this was still going on when Peter got out of the
boat and he started walking on that water. And so as he's walking
on that water, he starts to look around. And he starts to see
the waves a little bit big, and he starts to think to himself,
well, wait a minute, these feet ain't very big. I'm gonna sink
really fast. And guess what? He starts to
get really nervous. He starts to get scared. And
so he looks around and he says, wait a minute, I'm starting to
feel this being afraid. And the Bible says in verse number
33, in verse 30, and beginning to sink. So here he is. He's walking on the water. He's
on his way to Jesus. He's looking at Jesus. And then
all of a sudden he looks around. He sees the waves. He sees everything
around him. He starts focusing on the storm. And guess what happens? He starts
to sink. But I think it's interesting
that he knew exactly who to call. He didn't call the guys in the
boat. Hey, guys, throw me a rope. No, he knew exactly who to call.
He knew the one that gave him the power to walk on the water
in the first place. So he looked at him and he said,
look, he says, and beginning to sink, he cried, Lord, save
me. Now the Lord could have looked
at him and said, oh my goodness. Don't you have enough faith?
No, he could have let him sink for a while He could have let
him wallow in that but the Bible says in verse number 31 and immediately
Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him and said unto
him O thou of little faith wherefore didst thou doubt? I mean, here
Jesus Christ has this carrying arm of help that he reaches down
and he sees Peter go down. And as Peter's crying out, Lord,
save me, Jesus Christ's hand is immediately, the Bible says,
is right there to pick him right up and to pull him up out of
that mess. And he saves him. He didn't let
him drown. He did say, oh, ye of little
faith, why'd you doubt? He did say that, but he saved
him. He brought him up out of that.
You know, I think that's amazing to see that the God, Jesus Christ,
was right there ready to help even when Peter's faith was weak.
Do you realize that your God is there ready to help even when
your faith is weak? He's ready there to pick you
up when you fall down. He's there ready to help you
when you get involved in that sin and you're sorry for that
sin. Guess what? Jesus isn't gonna just kick you
to the curb. God's not gonna say, I don't
want anything to do with you. When we repent of that sin, when
we try to get ourselves right with God, when we allow that
revival to work in our hearts, guess what? That loving arm is
there to help pick us up and God will walk with us. God will
carry us and he will give us the strength to do what God wants
us to do. Oh man, this is a beautiful picture.
This is a beautiful story. As I begin to look at this and
I begin to think of what God is doing there. And then we get
to verse number 32. Remember the picture here. You've
got Jesus out there in the water at first You got all the disciples
in the boat and Peter gets out and he starts walking to Jesus. He begins to sink Jesus saves
him. So you got the picture now you've
got Jesus and Peter on their way back to the boat Now I want
you to think about this because when they got back to the boat
something happened. I It's very interesting what
you see here in this passage. Look what happened in this passage.
The Bible says in verse number 32, look at the verse there.
And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Hey, the storm stopped. No more
storm, no more rock in the boat. They didn't need dramamine anymore,
amen. They didn't have to worry about getting sick. I'm sure
some of those disciples were probably puking over the side
of that boat because it was going back and forth. I don't know
about you, but I would get sick really quick. But here they are. Jesus
and Peter, they get into the boat, and then all of a sudden,
the wind ceases. Oh, man, that's awesome. That's
great. But then you begin to see these
men in the boat, and you begin to see what happens to them.
The Bible says there, came and worshiped him. Look at it. Look at this saying
of a truth that thou art the son of God. Well, let me ask
you this question. Was he the son of God when he
was out there on the water all by himself? Was he the son of
God when he was walking all the way to the boat with Peter? So
here they are, they're worshiping God when they should have been
worshiping God out of the boat. Oh, I believe that, I believe
with all my heart that Peter was worshiping God when he was
saved from that sinking. I believe he was all excited.
I believe that he was worshiping God because he got to experience
the power of Almighty God. And I believe with all my heart
that they were worshiping God only because he was right there
and the storm was over. You see, it's easy to worship
God when the storm's over. It's easy to worship God when the
wind's not blowing, isn't it? When things are good, that's
when we, oh, I can praise your name. When there's enough money
to pay the bills, oh, praise God. When everything is going
good at church, oh, praise the Lord. But boy, when those storms
start to pound, when those winds start to howl, when that rain
starts to turn sideways and it turns our world upside down,
guess what we do? We start forgetting he's still
the son of God. We start forgetting who he is.
We start forgetting that he still has all the power. We start forgetting
that we don't have to wait till the storm's over. We can worship
him before the storm, we can worship him in the storm, and
we can worship him after the storm. Why? Because he's God. He's our God. He's all powerful
God. He's the amazing God. There is
no other God but ours. And so when I looked at this,
I was like, wow, you know what this is? This is a final convincing,
but it's also a miss blessing. You see, I began to look at this
and I start to look at Peter as he's in the water and he starts
to sink and Jesus saves him. But then I start to think to
myself as Peter and Jesus are walking back to the boat, how
many people got out of the boat that day? Put it up in the air. Just one? So that means you had
all these guys that are in that boat and they're sitting there
and they're watching Peter experience the power of Almighty God. Now
let me ask you this question. Do you think that Jesus has enough
power to allow all those men to get out of the boat and start
walking around? Oh, I believe Jesus could have had the boat
floating all over the place. I believe he could have had it
floating in the air. They could have been spinning on one finger and they
could have all been just going all over the place. He could
have had the water go up in the air. I mean, this is God. He
had the power to do it. So if they knew he was a son
of God because they began to worship him when he got in the
boat, why didn't anybody else get out? I was like, if I saw
Peter get out, I was like, okay, He ain't the only one that's
gonna experience this. I'd be walking on that water because
I wouldn't want somebody else just to experience that. This
is too awesome. This is too amazing. You know,
as a Christian, I'm really tired of being a spectator of the power
of God. Did you hear me? I'm really tired
of being a spectator of the power of God. I wanna experience in
my own life. I want to see it in my church.
I want to see the power of God work in my family. But you know
what it's going to take? It's going to take me getting
out of my comfort zone. It's going to take me getting
out of something that I am stuck in. It's going to take me analyzing
what I'm not doing right in my life. It's going to take me saying,
God, you say you want me to do that, so I'm just going to have
to step out on faith. I'm going to have to do exactly
what you want me to do. so I can experience the power
of Almighty God. You know why we don't have the
power working in our country the way we should? Because there's
too many Christians stuck in a boat. They're too comfortable. They're in their Christian lazy
boy sitting back going, I'm going to heaven. My soul is gonna live
for, I've got a mansion in heaven. Victory in Jesus is mine. And
that's great. And I can claim that. But folks,
there is a millions and millions of people that are dying. I always
think about this. There's 160 some thousand people
who die every day. They go into eternity. So I asked
myself the question, what's being flooded, heaven or hell? Oh,
I'd love to be able to say preacher heaven's being flooded. I wish
I could, but I don't believe that. I believe hell is just
expanding its boundaries. I believe hell is being flooded
with souls that will perish for all eternity because Christians
are too lazy. They're watching people. They're
watching other churches. They're watching other countries.
And they're saying, wow, look at the power of God work over
there. Isn't that beautiful? When all they gotta do is say,
you know what? I wanna do the same thing. You see, I can't
do more for Jesus sitting in a boat. I can't love Jesus the
way I need to sitting in a boat. I've got to get out of that boat
so that I can get closer to Jesus. Who was the closest at that point?
Peter was. He got to feel the hand of God. Reach down and pick him up. And
he walked back, I mean, oh man, I wish I could have been a fly
on the wall just listening to the conversation of Jesus and
Peter as they're walking back, as they're talking. And the Bible
doesn't record it, but I'm sure there was some type of conversation,
because I would have been talking, and I know Peter was a talker.
You look at him, he was a talker, and he talked a lot. I mean,
he was one of those guys, he's like me, he just kept going and
going. I know why he was a preacher, because he couldn't shut up,
amen? But I can't imagine the conversation that he must have
had. But none of those other people got a chance to experience
it. Why? Because they just wanted to be
spectators. So I began to look at this and I began to think,
well, God, am I stuck in something? You know, the reason why people
get stuck, you know, they get stuck in the boat of bitterness.
Oh, well, such and such hurt me, so I can't do anything for
God. I had somebody the other day, they were like, well, the
church hurt me years ago, so I just can't do anything for
God anymore. There's a bitterness that is built up inside. They're
stuck in that boat. So guess what? They don't get
to experience the power of God. They don't experience the blessings
of God. Oh, I don't have enough faith preacher. Well, that's
a boat you're stuck in. Oh, I've just got this anger
inside of me. That's a boat you're stuck in.
There's a boat of lust. There's a boat of addiction.
There's a boat of selfishness. And that's where a lot of us
are today. It's all about me. That's why we have these mega
churches out there and people come in and they listen to the
preacher, preach about prosperity and how they can make a million
dollars. I mean, I heard one preacher talk about how you could
go just claim a Cadillac in the name of Jesus. And you go up
to the dealership and you look at them and say, hey, in the
name of Jesus, I'm claiming that Cadillac. Yeah, you can claim
any name you want as long as you pay for it. That's exactly
what the dealership would tell you. But there's a lot of people
sitting in pews that are believing those lies. Why? Because it tickles
their ears. It tells them what their flesh
wants to hear. It tells them how to build up
their flesh. And so it's all about me. Many
years ago, we were at a church and there was a family that came
in and they said, well, we just want to visit this church and
make sure that this makes us feel good to be here. Well, I'll
tell you what. I don't always feel good when
I'm in church. You know why? Because there's Holy Spirit conviction
sometimes that steps all over these toes. And that's God Himself
trying to help me to get right with Him. And when I leave sometimes,
I'm humbled to know that my Savior was trying to help me. I'm humbled
to know, and it's my responsibility to ask myself, am I gonna get
out of this boat when God says to do it? Or am I gonna stick
myself in it and just refuse to be blessed of Him? Boat of
selfishness. the boat of sin. You know, Christian,
I wish, you know, I got a chance to speak to the young people
this morning, and I love young people. I was a youth pastor
for 13 years. I told them that's why I don't have much hair left.
And then I had two teenage girls. That's where the rest of it's
going. But you know, I see potential in our young people to be able
to do something great for almighty God. I don't see a lot of adults
doing much anymore. I wish I could. I wish as an
evangelist, I got a chance to travel all over. And, you know,
there were some little churches doing some stuff, but most of
them aren't doing much. They're not knocking on doors.
They're not giving people tracts. They're not sharing the gospel.
They're too scared to preach the whole word of God because
they're afraid they're gonna call some news organization to
come in and shut them down. They're scared. They're fearful. They're stuck in this boat. You
know what the devil's doing? He's laughing. He's saying, we
want you to stay in the boat. Me and my things, me and my evil
minions, we want you to stay in this boat. We don't want you
to get out of this boat because we know that if you get out of
that boat, then wow, God's power is gonna just show. And you know
what God's waiting for? He's waiting for a church. And
I believe that because I want revival in America so bad I can
just taste it. And I believe he's waiting for
a church to say, collectively, let's all get out of the boat
and let's do more for Jesus Christ. You see, I can do more. You can
do more. It's just a matter of fact. Are
we willing to do more? Sunday school, bus ministry,
teaching, whatever the case may be, knocking on a door, giving
out a track, just doing a little bit more for Jesus Christ. Is
he worth it? So I ask you the question, like
I asked you earlier, do you want to do more for Jesus tonight?
Because revival is all about doing more for Jesus. It's about
changing your life and giving yourself 100% being sold out
for Jesus Christ. But you know what we have? Well,
we have a lot of Christians that are renting themselves to Jesus.
Oh, Jesus, I'll rent myself to you for a little while, but then
I take myself back. You know what we need we we need
Christians that say I want a hundred a hundred percent just be sold
out for Jesus Christ You see that's what revival will take
Because when we as Christians say we want to be sold out to
God guess what we'll do. We'll get out of the boat and
and we'll be closer to Jesus. Jesus will be closer to us and
we'll get a chance to experience instead of watch other people
and see the power of God work in our own lives. Do you want
that in your life? Wouldn't it be great for this
place to see the power of God work? Do you desire it? Do you
want it? Does it even matter to you? Oh,
I pray with all of my heart because I believe one day we will desire
it. We will wish we had desired it
on this earth and we'll get to heaven and we'll look down and
we'll think of our lives and we'll think of all the things
we didn't do and we'll wish we had done more for Jesus. When
we look into those eyes that gave us everything, that held
nothing back, I mean, he got out of the boat completely. He
gave his entire life for us and he did it all. And when we look
into those eyes, one day we'll say, oh, I wish I had done more
for Jesus. I wish I had given another track
for Jesus. I wish I had given more for Jesus
Christ of myself because everything that I do for him, is just a
chance to say, I love you, Jesus, for what you've done for me.
So maybe you're tonight, you're stuck in a boat. Guess what?
You can get out. Maybe you're stuck in bitterness.
You can get out. Maybe you're stuck in lust or an addiction
or selfishness or apathy or pride or anger. Maybe you've just got
a lack of faith. Get out. Do more for Jesus Christ
and allow the power of God and just oh, taste and see that the
Lord is good. Father, I just thank you tonight
that you want to do something great in our lives. God, I just,
I wanna see something big happen. Not because we wanna put ourselves
on a pedestal, but because you are worth it tonight. And so
Father, I pray that you'll help us. Lord, I pray that every soul
is thinking about it right now in this room. We can do more
for you. Lord, sometimes we don't do enough
because we're fearful. We don't do enough because there's
something else that we love more than you. We're stuck in something. We're stuck in a boat spiritually,
Lord. God, I want to be like Peter. I want to be able to get
out of this boat. I want to be able to feel your
hand help me through this life. And I want to see your power
just work. So Father, tonight, I pray that you'll speak to our
hearts. With every head bowed and every eye closed, I want
to ask you a question tonight. No one looking around. Christian,
let me ask you this question. How many of you be honest before
God? Not the preacher, but before God. And you would honestly say,
I can do more for Jesus Christ. Raise your hand. You know what tonight could be?
A revival of commitment. Revival of saying, Jesus, you're
worth it. Jesus, I'm gonna need your help
on this commitment. and then do it. You see, those
of you that raised your hands, you know what that thing is.
You know exactly what you can do, just like I know exactly
what I can do. So here's what I'm gonna ask
you to do. During this invitation time, when we stand and start
to sing, you come to this old-fashioned altar and you just have a revival
of commitment to say, Jesus, I want to do more for you. Whatever
the case may be, whatever the significant thing is, the specific
thing is, just commit it to God tonight and put it on the altar
and say, God, this is what I'm gonna do for you. And I'm telling
you folks, when you get out of that boat and you start doing
something for God, you're gonna experience the power of God in
your life and it's gonna be amazing, it's gonna be wonderful and God
is going to use you. Father, I thank you tonight for
speaking to our hearts. Lord, I pray that we will respond
to you tonight. Lord, thank you that you want
to use us in the first place. Lord, thank you for giving everything
for us. Lord, we love you in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. If you would stand with me, heads
bowed and eyes closed. Scott spoken to your heart this
evening. Would you come? Would respond to the Holy Spirit. You know what I think is amazing
today is concern has never been greater. Every week I have conversations
with Christians and we are concerned about our nation. We're concerned
about the morality. We're concerned about what we
see in homes and lives. Concern has never been greater
and yet consecration has never been. less. I'm not sure today that we even
really have a true glimpse of how to even live holy. Those two things ought not to
be where we can have such concern and lack such consecration to
God. 2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 14
and 15 says this, For the love of Christ constraineth us, because
we thus judge, that if one died for all, then we're all dead.
And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth
live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them and rose
again. that they which live should not
henceforth live unto themselves. Oh, I think we're guilty of that.
Living our lives for ourselves. We're consecrated to the American
dream. We're consecrated to materialism. We're consecrated to position,
to influence, to pride, but not to Jesus Christ. We are content
to sit in the boat and watch others experience the power of
God. I believe this folks, I believe
that God could use this church to change Chesapeake. I believe we have enough Christians
in this room to make a significant difference for eternity. But we're gonna have to fall
out of love with ourselves and we're gonna have to fall
in love with Jesus more. We sang a song tonight, I was
looking back in the hymnal, I'd Rather Have Jesus. Boy, it talks
about a number of things that you'd rather have, fame and fortune,
houses and lands, and we sing that song so flippantly. But the theme of the American
life is I'd rather have materialism than Jesus. Where are you? Where are we? What boat are we content to sit
in?
