If you would, go ahead and get
your Bibles, turn to Psalm 96. Psalm 96. And I'd just like to
say what an honor it is. I'm truly humbled to be here
tonight in this missions conference. I certainly do appreciate all
your prayers, your prayerful support, and your financial support.
What a faithful church. I mean, what a testimony of supporting
Brother Gomez he is over all these years. Brother Gomez, I
appreciate that testimony. I do. And I get to go to these
things all over the country and meet folks where we see that
God's working not only in their lives, but where they're called
to. And so, I certainly do appreciate that, and I'm going to give you
just a little bit of an update on our ministry as we go along
in each of the services. I'm not going to take time to
do it all at one time. There's so much to tell. But
as far as a family, Brother Gomez was talking about family, we
welcomed three new grandchildren this year. Two was born in May. One in Colorado which was a grandson
and one in North Carolina which was a grandson and both are healthy
and doing well and we were excited and then our youngest or our
latest one was in September out in Montana. So we got to spend
some time with her. And she is the only girl with
two rambunctious boys. And so that's the way our grandchildren
are in Colorado. It's the same. One girl, two
guys. I'm telling you. But the girl
in Colorado is older. So she's going to take care of
business. Now the girl in Montana, she's the youngest. She'll take
care of business when it comes time. And so we're excited. That's our eighth grandchild
that's here on earth. We have three in heaven that
we'll get to meet one day. And I honestly believe we know
exactly who they're gonna be. When we get to heaven, we're
gonna know they're our grandchildren. And so that's 11 altogether.
And so we're excited for that day. But that's family news that
we really, really rejoice in. I love the grandchildren. I never knew. I heard one pastor
say, if I knew then what I know now, I'd have had the grandchildren
first. I say amen to that all day. I
love my kids, but I love my grandkids too. And our boys, our boy grandchildren
are out numbering the ladies. I had four girls. And so now
we have more boy grandchildren than we do girls. And so it's
exciting. We're excited. And so that's
just our news. And in our ministry, we have
been all over the place this year. The Lord has really opened
doors everywhere. And one of the things we were
doing, a VBS in Idaho. and a five-day VBS. You don't
see those very much anymore, but the pastor I preached on
Sunday, and we did the VBS that week, and five young people came
to know the Lord and Savior. And so we're rejoicing, and those
folks, that pastor's following up with those young people, and
he's actually got a way into the parents. He's able to witness
to the parents through those children who came to know the
Lord. And so we're excited about all of that there. And the Lord's
just really blessed. And so that's just a little bit
tonight. Like I said, I'll give you a little bit as we go along.
But Psalm 96 tonight, I wanna think this, the Lord laid on
my heart this theme, a heart for the harvest. And we look
at this, the heart for the harvest is, that's what God's heart is. He wants people to come to know
him. He wants people to come to know
him as savior. And so they can have a home in
eternity in heaven. And so in this, God laid upon
my heart, this theme and this verse. And as we come to this
tonight, I wanna look at Psalm 96, which is Charles Spurgeon
said is a missionary Psalm or a missionary hymn. And I looked
at it, and I began to study it, and I began to look at it, and
I began to agree with Spurgeon more and more as I studied it.
And tonight, we're gonna look at this and break it down, and
I wanna think on this thought tonight of why missions matter. Now, if you were to ask several
people and many people, they would probably tell you the same
thing. It's because it matters to God. Well, and that's so true. Maybe somebody else may tell
you something else, but I look at this and as we look at this
Psalm tonight, I hope it becomes clear why missions ought to matter
to us. Now, and we know that it matters
to God. That's his heart, right? That's his heart. His heart is
missions. His heart is spreading the gospel
for us to spread the gospel all over this world. And so why should
missions matter to us as much as it matters to God? And I think
when we look at this hymn, or we look at this psalm, I think
you'll understand that. And I hope you will anyway. So
when you find your place there in Psalm 96, if you would please
stand with me out of reverence and honor of the reading of God's
Word. We'll pray and we'll get right
into the message tonight. Psalm 96 verse number 1, the
Bible says, O sing unto the Lord a new song, sing unto the Lord
all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his
name, show forth his salvation from day to day. Declare His
glory among the heathen, His wonders among all people. For
the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised. He is to be feared
above all gods. For all the gods of the nations
are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty
are before Him. Strength and beauty are in his
sanctuary. Verse number 7 says, Give unto
the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people. Give unto the Lord glory
and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory
due unto his name. Bring an offering and come into
his courts. O worship the Lord in the beauty
of holiness. Fear before him all the earth. Say among the heathen that the
Lord reigneth, the world shall also be established, that it
shall not be moved. He shall judge the people righteously. Let the heavens rejoice and let
the earth be glad. Let the sea roar in the fullness
thereof. Let the field be joyful and all
that is therein. Then shall all the trees of the
wood rejoice before the Lord for he cometh For he cometh to
judge the earth, he shall judge the world with righteousness
and the people with his truth. Father in heaven, we're thankful
to be able to come to your house tonight. Lord, I'm thankful everyone
that is assembled together here, that Lord, we can worship you
in spirit and in truth. Lord, as we look at this psalm
tonight, Lord, I pray that we set the cares of this world away
for just a little while as we look at your words, Lord, and
I pray that as your people, we'd open our hearts and minds, Lord,
to what you'd have for us, Lord, that we may go forth from this
place to be better witnesses, to be better Christians, to be
better servants for you, and that, Lord, we would have your
eye on the harvest. And so, Lord, tonight I pray
you bless in a mighty way. I pray, Lord, you'd help me as
I preach your precious word. Lord, I can't do it upon my own
strength, Lord, but I'd ask you that you'd fill me with your
Holy Ghost, Lord, that I'd say and I'd think and everything
that would honor and please you. Thank you again for each one.
Thank you for your blessings you give us in each and every
day, Lord, in Christ's name. Amen. Thank you. You may be seated.
Thank you for standing for the reading of the word. As we look
at this Psalm, I know that was a lot of reading there in these
verses, but I felt as we look at this Psalm tonight, I think
we can look at and we can get the eye for the harvest or we
can have that heart for the harvest as what the Lord has laid upon
my heart. for this thing. Now there's a
little over eight billion people on earth at this time. Eight
billion. Now you think about that, I'm
not very good with numbers, but I do know that eight billion
is eight with nine zeros after it. I can't even fathom eight
billion of something. But there is eight billion living,
breathing people. So I want you to give you more
of a manageable number. The number is 7,220. Now according
to an organization or several, 7,220 is the number of the unreached
people groups in the world. An unreached people group is
a unique segment of the global population that is less than
2% evangelical Christian. Now what that means is, is much
of these people groups have no churches, they have no missionaries,
they have no Christian witnesses among them whatsoever. Now why
would these numbers be important to you? Because they're important
to God. Jesus left his home. Jesus came
and traveled to this world that did not know him. He spent his
life seeking those that were lost and gave his life that they
might be saved. The Bible tells us that he came
to seek and to save that which was lost. Our Lord is the master
missionary. And all those who truly follow
in his steps knows that missions really matter. In Psalm 96, we
read what is described as a missionary hymn or psalm. It's a Old Testament
song written with New Testament notes. Reading as we look at
this, we're reminded of God's desires for all the nations and
all the people of the world to hear the gospel and to know His
glory. So I want you to, as we examine
this psalm, I want us to be reminded that we should have a heart for
the harvest like God has a heart for the harvest. You and I need
to have that urge to spread the gospel. You and I need to have
God's heart in our life because that's what it's about. And so
as we look at this psalm, I want you to notice with me, number
one, missions matter when we look around. Missions matter
when we look around. Although Jehovah, our God, was
the unique God of the Jewish people, He was never exclusively
their God. Though they often forgot it many
times, they were supposed to be the lights to the Gentiles. The Jews were supposed to be
the lights to the Gentiles, to the people of this world and
witnesses to the world of the glory of God. But they failed
at that. And so we are reminded in Psalm
96, I want you to notice here, we find the reference in verse
number nine, look at verse number nine, we see all the earth. In verse number three, as we
look at that, we see among all people. In verse number five,
you notice here the nations. And in verse number seven, you'll
notice kindreds of the people. You notice several things in
reference to people all over the world. This psalm calls for
the people of God to look around and realize that there are many
others in these United States and around the world who need
to hear about our God. Right? As Christians living in
this century, the need to look around is greater than it ever
has been before. As the world's population increases,
so do the number of those who are lost and in need of the gospel. So consider as we see it here
in this psalm, for one thing, when we look around, we see number
one, people are lost from their birth. Look in verse 3 with me. The Bible says this, Declare
His glory among the heathen, His wonders among all people. Now you see in verse 3 the word
translated heathen there was actually a title that referred
to anybody that was not a Jew. That's the reference. It was
anybody that wasn't a Jew. And it is applied specifically
to those who were not in a covenant with God. Now the truth is, is
that all men are born this way. All of us were born, as Ephesians
chapter 2 and verse number 12 says, aliens from the commonwealth
of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having
no hope and without God in the world. When we look around, we
see the world and thousands and millions and billions of people
that make them up, we must be mindful that we are not all God's
children. We are not all saved. As you
look around, you see people out there, we can't assume only God
knows who's saved, that's true, right? But we can't assume that
everybody's saved because we know that they are not. God wants
everybody saved. God wants everybody to come to
know him as Savior. But we know that that's not going
to happen. We know people that's already
died and gone to their eternity in hell. And you and I as we
look at this Psalm and we see that people are born into sin. They're born separated from God.
Humanity is born spiritually dead on their way to hell apart
from the grace of God and the hope of the gospel. Romans 5.12
tells us that. Wherefore, by one man sin entered
into the world, and death by sin. And so death passed upon
all men, for all, for they all have sin. When we look around,
we see not only people that are lost from their birth, but we
see also further, secondly, that people are lost in their beliefs. Look down in verse number five,
if you would. The Bible says, For all the gods of the nations
are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Now as we see this,
we see that people that feel this planet are not only born
lost, but they believe lost. The multitude of gods and deities
they worship are nothing but idols, creations of man's hands
and minds. Nevertheless, anyone who honestly
considers the various religions of the world recognizes they
cannot be all right and in fact they are counter to one another. But we know there's only one
way. John 14, 6 says, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No man cometh unto the Father but by me. Now I know I may be
speaking to the choir here, but you can go not too far out of
here and you'll see many different religions. You'll see many different
beliefs. And you'll see many different
idols. Right? People here in today's time,
you read about it in the Old Testament a lot where people
would worship idols. They would worship false gods.
But I submit to you that we do the same thing today. They are
not identical to what the Old Testament when we read about
gods and idols and those kinds of things. But there are gods
and idols today. Right? And it's easily defined
as anything that takes the rightful place of God in our lives. That's
an idol. That may even be so much as a
god to us. Anything that takes the rightful
place. And what is the rightful place of God in our lives? That
is first place or preeminence. That's what the Bible says in
Colossians, that he is to have the preeminence. That's first
place. Above all else, that's first
place. And that's odd to this world
today. That's different to this world
today because everything else should be just as important,
right? Everything else, my family should
be more important, or my wife should be more important, or
my job, or making money and surviving, all of that should be more important.
That's what the world thinks. Right? But the Bible tells us
that God should have preeminence or the first place in our lives.
And so in this world today, you know that many people have replaced
that thing. Now, people are born with a vacancy,
if you will, that only God can fill. People are looking to fill
those things with many different things. That void, if you will,
that only God can fill. That's what we're born. When
God comes in and we ask God to save us, it comes in, that weight
is lifted off, and we have more joy than we ever had before,
no matter the circumstances. Right? That's what God does.
But in our day today, people are looking to fill that with
money, with a job, with drugs, with alcohol, with anything they
possibly can to fill that in their lives. But you and I need to realize
this harvest may not understand that. And you and I are to give
them which will fill that in their lives. See, he's called
us to do that. It's like Brother Gomez in Columbia. You give them the truth. That's
what changes their lives. The truth, the gospel. That's
what you and I are to give these folks today that are lost in
their beliefs. There's so many different ones.
But we know the truth. And there's only one way to heaven.
I've heard this, I heard it the other day, and I don't know,
we don't watch a whole lot of news. And I'm thankful for that. Because I used to watch news,
and my wife says, you gotta do something. Because I'd get so
frustrated. It's like, this is crazy. This
is crazy. And my wife said, no, you gotta
do something else. So I don't watch the news now. I try not
to anyway. But I heard the other day that
there was a prominent, if you will, Christian authority or
whatever, that says there's many ways to heaven. And I thought,
how deceitful can you be? There's only one way. That's
what the word of God says. And we need to understand the
fact that we are to give them that way. We don't save them. God saves them. But you and I
are to give them the way. To show them the way. And so
that's what we're seeing here is people are lost in their beliefs. We see that in verse number five
because it says, for all the gods of the nations are idols. They're false gods that they
worship. But the Lord made the heavens.
I love that reminder there in verse five that the Lord made
the heavens. Hey listen, whatever, all those false gods, they didn't
do anything. But you need to remember the Lord who's made
everything. Who's made everything. And so you and I need to realize
tonight that missions matter when we look around. And we can't
have that heart for the harvest like God does. And so, you and
I need to realize that here, people are lost in their beliefs.
See, we must look around and realize that every single person
who lives without Christ is lost, and if they die without him,
they'll spend forever without him in a place called hell. Missions
matter when you and I, as God's people, look around at the hordes
of humanity that are still lost and still without the hope of
the gospel. Consider a second truth we draw from this song.
Not only should missions matter when we look around, but missions
should matter when we look above. When we look above. Now, while
billions of lost people around us should move us towards the
cause of missions in this psalm and in the rest of scripture,
what truly furthers the work of the missions is the glory
of God. It's the glory of God. In this
psalm, we see its ultimate motivations in nothing less than to see the
name and the glory of God spread throughout the earth and among
the nations because that's what's right and that's what's due.
When we fully, when we know fully who our God is and his worthiness,
then we will understand better the importance of missions. Right? As we consider this, I
want you to notice here, number one, our God desires to be proclaimed. Our God desires to be proclaimed.
Look at verse number two. He says, Sing unto the Lord Bless
his name, show forth his salvation from day to day. You notice the phrase show forth
his salvation. And I found it interesting that
the word translated show literally means to publish or to preach. Right? And this command is very
similar to the one that we find from the lips of our Lord Jesus
in Mark 16, 15. He says, go ye into all the world
and preach the gospel to every creature. Go ye into all the
world. See, when we look above to our
God, we realize that His heart is for men and women and young
people to come to know Him. He desires to make Himself known,
for His people to declare who He is. God's no recluse. He's not up there hiding in heaven.
He's not trying to keep himself hidden from the world. He came
into the world through Jesus. He died for the world on the
cross and now he calls the world through the gospel. See, what
we must realize is that this same God that revealed himself
to us one day now desires to reveal himself through us to
those who have yet to hear of him. See, when he reveals his
self to us, then he can reveal his self through us. That's what he tells us. And
we are to show forth his salvation from day to day. You know what
that in a nutshell means to us? We tell people what God did for
us. That's the greatest witnessing tool that you have. is your own
testimony. Is that just to tell folks, listen,
this is what God did for me and he can do the same thing for
you. That's the gospel. The death,
burial, and resurrection of Christ. And how he changed our life.
You get all these different religions and they can argue with doctrine
if they want to. But they can't argue with a changed
life. They can't argue with a changed life, what God did. And that's
what he wants shown throughout this is how God changed you and
how God can change them. See, he revealed himself to you,
now he wants to reveal himself to others through you. And how do we do that? We go
tell others about the gospel. We go tell others about the great
God who did that for us. Right? It really matters when
we look above at God and who the glory needs to go to. It's
not anything that we've done. It's what God did. It's what
he did in our lives. That's what we are to proclaim.
Because you do that, he gets the glory. Right? He gets the glory. And so that's
what he is due. You think about this, he wants
to reveal himself to this world through us. People often say that a person's
religious beliefs are to themselves or private, if you will. I've
heard that before, but God doesn't think so. He feels that his salvation
is to be a very public matter. God has no concerns about protecting
his privacy. He desires for all men to come
to know him as Savior. And when we know him, we will
want others to know about him as well. When we look above,
we not only see that our God desires to be proclaimed, but
also our God deserves to be praised. Our God deserves to be praised.
Look at verse four. For the Lord is great and greatly
to be praised. He is to be feared above all
gods. Now when you think this psalm,
you see here, for the Lord is great and greatly to be praised. Now look at the central, look
at verse number seven, if you will. He says, give unto the
Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and
strength. Give unto the Lord the glory
due unto his name. Bring an offering and come into
his courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty
of holiness. Fear before him all the earth. See, here is the highest and
the ultimate motivation for missions. Our God is worthy and deserves
all of the praise, all of the honor, all of the worship, all
of the glory that mankind can give Him. We should be concerned
for the souls of men. We should grieve over billions
that are dying and on their way to hell. We should weep over
the fact that God does not receive all the glory that he deserves. Don't miss this. It is when men
are most concerned with the glory of God that we will become more
concerned with the salvation of men. See, I fear that the
majority of people are not really involved, that are not really
involved in missions, not because they don't see the lostness of
men around them, but rather they don't see the full worthiness
of God above them. See, the greatest missionaries
and the greatest mission supporters are not those who love men the
most. They are the ones that love God
the most. If you love God the most, then
you will love man. You love God the most. If we
would only realize how worthy and wonderful Jesus is, our single
and solitary and sole ambition would be to make him known to
everyone who lives under the sun. In Isaiah chapter six, we
find the prophet saying this, here am I, send me. You hear
that many times at missions conferences and missions days all around.
He says that when you read it all, not after he has seen the
wickedness of Israel or the sinfulness of his fellow man. No, he said
that immediately after he had seen the Lord high and lifted
up. That's when he said, send me.
When he recognized God and he was high and lifted up, if we
see the worthiness of God for worship, we'll not hesitate to
enlist ourselves for the cause of telling others about him.
Now as we look further at this psalm, not only do we notice
that missions matter when we look around, Missions matter
when we look above, but also, thirdly, missions matter when
we look ahead. When we look ahead. Now, this
psalm is not only a missionary psalm, it's a millennial psalm. Now, what I mean is that the
psalm speaks of the coming day when Christ will set up his kingdom
on this earth and reign for a thousand years, the millennial reign.
And the closing verses of this psalm pick up this theme. Look
down in verse 10, if you will. The Bible says, say among the
heathen that the Lord reigneth. The word also shall be established
that it shall not be moved. He shall judge the people righteously. When we as God's people remember
that Jesus is coming back, and when we recognize that he's coming,
what it will mean for this world, we are further motivated for
the cause of missions. When we consider with me here
what is ahead and what it means for the work of missions, number
one, what does it mean ahead? Number one, it means the ruler
that is coming to this world. We see that in verse 10. Look
in verse 10, it says, say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth. He reigneth. Okay, so you notice
that our message to the world is not that the Lord will reign. It is that he already reigns. He's already reigning. The truth
is, Jesus is not waiting to become king. He's already king. His
kingdom has already begun in the hearts and lives of his people. And there is a day coming when
the king who reigns in heaven is coming to rule on earth. The first time Jesus came to
this earth, he came through the womb of a virgin. He was wrapped
in swaddling clothes and rested in a humble manger. The next
time he comes, he'll be riding a white horse, wearing a bloodstained
robe, and will sit upon his throne in Jerusalem. See, with that
in mind, when we look ahead, we realize that the second coming
of Christ will mean very different things for this world to which
he returns. He came the first time as man's
redeemer. He comes the next time as man's
ruler. He came the first time to call
them with the blood of his cross. He comes the next time to conquer
them with the word of his mouth. When we, with that in mind, we
plead with men to come to Christ today, offering them the Lamb
of God now before they must face the line of Judah then. See,
there's a lot of motivations that you and I have for this
task of world evangelism. And there's one that Paul mentions
in 2 Corinthians chapter 5. It says here that Paul was motivated,
or Paul was motivated by the terror of the Lord. In verse
number 11 of 2 Corinthians chapter 5, it says, knowing therefore
the terror of the Lord, we persuade men. See, the apostle Paul knew
the coming judgment of God in this world. He knew that God
was coming back, Christ was coming back. You and I have not been
called to clean up this world because it's on a collision course
with the judgment of God. What we have been told to do
is to tell others about Christ, right? To tell them that Christ
is their only hope. and of the God that loves them. There's a saying that people don't realize how much
you care until you show them how much you care. And the greatest
thing that you and I could ever do for somebody to care for them,
to love them, is tell them about Christ. Because we are on a direct line. And you read about the scriptures,
and you look at what's going on in the world today, and we're
closer to Jesus coming back than we've ever been before. And I
think it's close, sir. It's not going to be long. Pastor,
I really don't believe it's going to be long before the Lord comes
back. I know the things and the chaos
happening in the world and in this country today, the only
fix for that is the Lord Jesus Christ. It's gone so far. And I had somebody say this is,
when I was growing up, that I never thought the world would be in
the shape that it is now back then. It has gotten way worse
than I could ever imagined. And that tells us, the Bible
tells us, we don't know when Jesus is coming back, but we
can know the times and the seasons that he's coming back. And boy,
we're there. We're there. There's nothing
else left to be fulfilled. All we're doing is waiting for
that trumpet when he calls us out of here, the church out of
here, then the seven year tribulation, and then he's gonna come back
and reign for a thousand years. See, you and I, if we're saved,
we're not gonna be here for that tribulation. We're gonna be in
heaven. And so you think about that in
the heart for the harvest. There's people that you and I
know. There's people that you can reach that I can't reach.
There's people that you can reach that your neighbor can't reach.
But the whole point of the fact of this Psalm is telling us is
that Jesus is coming back to reign and he's gonna come back
and it's gonna be a little different than the first time he come.
Because the first time he come, he has given opportunity. He
has given his gospel. He wants people to know him.
But when he comes back the second time, he's gonna reign with righteousness. Gonna be a little bit different
then than it is now. But you and I need to have that
heart as Lord Jesus Christ did when he was on earth. He had
that heart for the harvest. And so when we think about that,
this leads us as we look at this motivation, as we look at this
realization that Jesus is coming back. But secondly, in this as
we look ahead, We need to notice the reckoning that is coming
for this world. The reckoning, look in verse
13 of Psalm 96. The Bible says, before the Lord,
for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth. He shall
judge the world with righteousness and the people with his truth. Right? This Psalm, and through
this Psalm, the coming of the Lord is surrounded by calls for
rejoicing from the heavens and the earth. There's a truth that
reminds us that his coming will not be a joyful experience for everyone. For
he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth. He shall judge the
world with righteousness and the people with his truth. When
he returns, he's coming to execute judgment and to bring people
of this world to account. Revelation chapter 19 and verse
11 says, and I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse and
he that sat upon him was called faithful and true and in righteousness. He doth judge and make war. See,
when you and I are saved, we are, it's this theological term
of the doctrine of imputation. See, when we're saved, our sins
are imputed into Jesus and his righteousness is imputed to us. When you're saved, His righteousness
is imputed into you. And that's the only way that
you and I can stand before the Lord. That's the only way. It's not through anything that
we have done. It's not by works. It's not by
anything that you and I can do. It's only by the Lord Jesus Christ. And He's coming to judge in His
righteousness. He's coming to this world to
judge in his righteousness. See, you and I today, we really
act as a district attorney, if you will. During my years in
law enforcement, I don't know how many hours I spent in the
courtroom. And I worked with the DA all
the time, all the time, because he was prosecuting all the cases
that I would bring before him. But you and I act as a DA in
the world today. How do we do that? See, all the
people, it's already been proven that all of us are born sinful
men and women. We're all born into sin, every
single one of us. But when you and I, we say to
people, listen, you're guilty. You're guilty. The evidence is
against you. It's overwhelming. If you stand
trial before the judge, you're gonna be convicted and you'll
be condemned. But we also tell them that the
judge that sits on the throne is merciful. He's gracious, he's
loving, and he's willing to give you or grant a full pardon. to all that confess their sins
and trust in his son, who paid for their crimes on the cross.
See, we urge all people to set of their case out of court, to
be justified before they are judged, because when judgment
comes, there will be no more time for pleas and pardons. When we look ahead, our hearts
are stirred to call men to repentance. and faith in Jesus, knowing that
when they see him face to face, it will be too late to negotiate
for their souls. Jesus offers a full pardon for
anybody that will come to him. And he says he won't cast anybody
out. How do we do that? He does that
through us, by having a heart for the heartless. And that starts
here at home. Missions start here at home.
Why? Because this is where people
are. Missions are wherever you go because lost people are there. One of the greatest missionaries
that ever lived and served was J. Hudson Taylor. in September
of 1853 as a 21-year-old man, Taylor, boarded a little ship
in Liverpool, England. And he set sail for China with
the hopes of winning people to Christ. At that time, only a
handful of missionaries had ever entered that country. By the
time Taylor died some 50 years later, thousands had volunteered
to go, motivated by his preaching and writing. Taylor once said
this, would that God would make hell so real to us that we cannot
rest. Would that God make heaven so
real that we must have men there. Would to God that he would make
Christ so real that our supreme motive and aim shall be to make
the man of sorrows the man of joy by the conversion to him
of many. Would Christ be so real that
our supreme motive and aim shall be to make the man of sorrows
the man of joy by the conversion to him of the many lost. What a statement. What a statement. See, remissions really matter. Only God can truly open our eyes
to see the reasons why it matters so much to him as it should to
us. Our prayer is that our eyes will
be truly open to the harvest. That you will look around and
see the many that are dying without Christ. that you will look above
and see the worthiness of Jesus to have his name praised by all
men, and that you will look ahead and see that the time for sharing
the gospel is now before the end of the age. May what matters
most to him matter most to us. With our heads bowed and our
eyes closed tonight, thank you for listening so well. As we think about the message
that God's laid upon the heart tonight, on my heart tonight,
I think in our human thinking that in the back of our minds,
we know that missions are important. But how important is it to us? Does missions really matter to
the fact that it causes us to do what the Lord
told us to do, to go? No, we're not all called into
missions, we're not all called to be in the ministry to go, but we're all called to tell
others, right where you're at. The heart for the harvest begins
in you. Do you see the lost people as
you look around? Do you see the worthiness of
God as you look above? And do you see the need to hurry to spread the gospel? as much as we can because Jesus
is coming back. It's a great day for us who are
saved when Jesus calls us out of this world, but it won't be
for those who are still here. Do you have that heart for the
harvest? If you don't, you can ask God
to give you that burden. because that's his heart. Father,
I pray you'd have your will and way during this invitation time. Lord, have your will and way
in our hearts and our minds, Lord, that we would get your
heart for the harvest. In Christ's name, as we stand
to our feet with our heads bowed and our eyes closed, Pastor,
you come. As the music begins to play,
I pray if God's spoken to you tonight, I pray that you do business
with him. As the pianist plays a song tonight
of God spoken to your heart, you need to come tonight. We
invite you to come. The altar is open. You come and
kneel here and talk to God. I love the statement, I don't
know if it was his statement or a missionary, but the greatest
missionaries that this world has ever produced have been great,
not because they love man more than anybody else, but because
they love God more than anybody else. Do you love God? Really simple, do you love God? We are moving towards our mission
Sunday, Faith Promise Sunday. This was a great, a great night,
a great step in the right direction. Please pray, be praying. I know you have been. I know you have been. Please
pray for tomorrow night. Pray for Sunday. We're gonna sing a song, just
a really brief chorus. 857, if you turn there. I love you, Lord. Can you sing
that song and mean it? I love you, Lord. 857. When Isaiah saw the Lord, then
he said, send me. Got it, Sharon? I don't care if you play it on
both the same time, that's fine. 857, I love you, Lord. Let's sing
it twice. I love you, Lord, and I lift
my voice to worship you, O my soul. One more time, go home, I pray,
go home. One more time, I love you all. Sing it from your heart. I love you, Lord, and I lift
my voice to worship you. Thank you so much for the good message
tonight. Thank you for the challenge.
in our hearts for missions tonight. Lord, we want to praise you. We want to make you known to
those around us. We want to have a heart for missions
because that's your heart, Father. So would you bless us even on
tomorrow as we go about our different, varying things and different
things that we have to deal with tomorrow. Give us opportunity,
yea, give us eyes to see the needs of those that we encounter
tomorrow. And may we be blessed to be able
to even lead them to a saving knowledge of the Son of God,
I pray. And this I ask in Jesus' name,
amen.
