Ephesians 6.13 says, Wherefore
take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. I
know I'm going to upset a handful of people who are listening to
this, expecting that I'm going to say that October 31st is an
evil day. But it's not. Halloween is observed on October
31st, and what many people do on Halloween is evil. The glorification
of death, the celebration of witchcraft, necromancy and the
occult, all of that is evil. And Halloween has an evil history
going back to its very origins. But Halloween is just an observance
that only some people take part in. October 31st isn't Halloween. Halloween is on October 31st. It's the day Halloween is observed.
Halloween could have been observed on November 1st, or October 30th,
or October 29th, or some other day. But the day October 31st is the
day Halloween is observed, and that doesn't make October 31st
an evil day. I have a sister in Christ, and
I'm sure I probably have known other people who were born on
October 31st. It's their birthday. It doesn't
mean they are evil, or that even that they were born on an evil
day. As a matter of fact, Halloween is only observed in 37 of the
195 countries recognized on planet Earth. That means that in 158
countries, it's just October 31st. No Halloween, no decorations,
no trick-or-treat or beggars night, nothing. Nothing but October
31st. So when the Bible speaks of the
evil day, it's not talking about a day on your calendar like October
31st. And that may be obvious to most,
but it's not to some. As a matter of fact, we've mentioned
how that some people believe that there are certain days on
the calendar every year in which we should take special precautions
and maybe even stay home and spend the day fasting and praying
because those days are an evil day. Days like Friday the 13th.
This year, in 2024, we had one in September, but we're going
to have another in December. And next year, 2025, there's
only one. But in the following year, 2026,
there's going to be three Friday the 13th. And on those five Fridays
that land on the 13th day of the month in the next two and
a half years, I will not be hiding or doing anything to ward off
the evil. That may sound crazy to some
of you, but there are people who will spend October 31st of
each year in seclusion. Some will be fasting, others
praying and listening to Christian music and teaching, all with
the idea of being able to withstand in the evil day. I've seen folks
like that, and it's really sad. And most wouldn't listen to logic,
reason, or the clear teaching of scripture. But for those who
are willing to submit to God's word while practicing sound biblical
interpretation, there is freedom from such fear. To begin with,
the evil day isn't an unholy day that's marked on your calendar,
but is any day in which you face evil. And it's just as important
to understand that we're not told to run and hide in fear,
but to withstand. That means to oppose something
and to actively resist. As James 4.7 says, submit yourselves
therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from
you. Don't retreat into your house,
but resist. Paul said this in 2 Timothy 1,
7 through 10, for God hath not given us the spirit of fear,
but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Be not thou
therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner,
but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the
power of God who hath saved us. and called us with a holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to His own purpose
and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world
began, but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior
Jesus Christ who hath abolished death and hath brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel. Don't fear the evil
day. Put on the armor of God and be
prepared to do battle in the evil day and to withstand the
enemy with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
