I wanted to share just a few verses, actually you probably know them well, from Jeremiah chapter 29 and verses 11 through 13. As I say, these are not unusual words. Most of us probably know them, at least in substance, if not verbatim.
Jeremiah 29, 11 says, for I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord. Thoughts of peace, not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me and I will listen to you. And you will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.
Now, I expect that you, like I, have looked at these words many times and have been encouraged by them. And they are glorious promises, there's no question. For the Lord to tell us, I, the sovereign God of the universe, I know the thoughts that I think towards you. And they're thoughts of good, they're thoughts of peace, I'm gonna give you a future and a hope, I'm gonna bless you, and in particular, I'm going to make your prayers fruitful. Because you're going to call upon me, you're going to pray to me, and I'm going to listen to you. And you're going to seek me, and you're going to find me. I mean, brother, does that not speak to our hearts? Is that not what we all desire?
But one of the things that has really come out of all of this, including the conference, and things didn't go the way we planned for them to go. But what I've learned is this, as Isaiah puts it, God's ways are not our ways. And his thoughts are not our thoughts. And what I wanted to share with you, particularly today, is that his timetable is not our timetable.
In my own life and ministry, As you mentioned your work, we live in a society that is geared towards immediate results. We want instant everything. I was thinking this morning when I was a teenager, I didn't like to take time for breakfast, but Carnation came out with instant breakfast. Pour stuff in a glass, stir it up, and there you are, you got everything you need. We've got instant credit, we've got instant everything. You pop it in the microwave, it's done in 15 seconds. That's not the way God works.
Now we've read these words and these promises many, many times. Have you ever thought about the time taken? I know that this fits into the video, but who were these words given to? They were given to a generation that would most likely never see them come to pass. 70 years were left to go in captivity in Babylon before these words would be fulfilled.
And what I would like to encourage you to do, as I believe the Lord has helped me with this, is to learn to think generationally, not just here and now. And the fruit of your ministry, brother, it's not just now. It's gonna be children and grandchildren and children's children's children that may reap the fruit. God works in unusual ways. And I think when we realize that these glorious promises that he gave were given to a people that, by and large, would not see them come to pass, but their children would. Those of you with children need to be thinking about that. The fruit that you may actually have in this world may not be in your lifetime.
And I've been trying to come to grips with that and realize that my time at Calgary did not end the way that I thought it should or would. But who knows what children's children may bring forth as a result. So be encouraged. Your ministry is, I don't think it's an exaggeration to say profound. Just in the way that it has helped me and helped the emails that I get from all around the world of people that have responded to messages. It's just amazing.
And I pray for y'all, and I pray that the Lord will bless Sermon Audio and continue to use it, not just in your lifetime, in my lifetime, but for generations to come. That fruit will be born for the glory of Christ in the extension
