I'd like to read just a few verses to you. It's so wonderful, this Christmas season. And the wonderful part about Christmas is that Jesus came. And I want to remind you, and it's something that we emphasize, but it's something that God's commissioned us as a church to do, is to preach the Word and emphasize the truth. You see, if there's negligence in our pulpits and in our pulpit specifically, singularly, the Children of the Baptist Church, to preach the truth and teach the Word of God, then we fail the generation to come.
Christmas is not just about a time to give gifts, a time to put up trees, and as you can tell, we like Christmas trees. It's not just a time to have big meals and we like that too. It's time to remember that God in love sent his son, Jesus. Not just as a baby in a manger, that's the beginning. But that's not the full purpose and intent. Jesus was sent as a baby to the manger with a purpose. There's an old song, I love it. It's titled this, Born to Die upon Calvary. Now, that's kind of a sad side of the Christmas story, but it's the part of the Christmas story that must be remembered and must be emphasized because God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. That whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.
There are a few verses in the book of Galatians that are really exciting that talk about Christmas. The Bible says it like this, Galatians 4 verse 3, We, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." What a beautiful passage of scripture. I'll take just a moment.
We, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. Folks, I want you to understand and know that sin is a captor. Sin holds us captive and all men are sinners. We're in bondage to our sin. Men, by our nature, are not basically good. We are born with a sin nature. I don't know about you, but I didn't have lessons in our home on how to lie, but my children learned how. I didn't have lessons in my home to teach selfishness, but my children learned how. And lest we pick just on the preacher's kids. I remember the preacher as a boy. Nobody taught me how to lie, but I did. No one taught me to be selfish, but I was. Why? I'll tell you. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Through Adam, sin entered the human race and we're born sinners. Our sin condemns us. Our sin separates us from God.
When we were children, we were under bondage to the elements of the world. And because we needed a Savior, God chose the perfect time. I don't know all the why's to God's choice to send Jesus when He did, but the Bible calls it like this, when the fullness of time.
Let me tell you something about Christmas morning. The day that Jesus was born, it was not some random day. The byproduct of some cosmic lottery, God chose the perfect time to bring Jesus. When the fullness of time was come, the Bible says, God sent forth his son. I love that phrase. God sent forth his son. Let me tell you something, Jesus is God. God sent His Son. When the fullness of time was gone, God sent His Son, and Paul says it perfect, of course. God sent forth His Son, made of a woman. What is Jesus? Jesus is the God-man. That's something that is repeated. It's something that needs to be said. It's something that needs to be understood and known that Jesus became flesh, eternal God, and dwelt among us. The Bible says that God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law.
I'm going to tell you, the law had condemned every person that ever lived until Jesus came and lived and completed every detail of the law and lived it perfectly. But Jesus was made under the law. You see, the only thing that could redeem Sinful man was spotless lamb. And it had to be the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. It had to be the Christ. It had to be Jesus. The Bible says that he was born, made under the law. And then the scripture concludes this way. Why did he come? Why Christmas? Why the Christ? To make a beautiful story about babies and shepherds and wise men. It's a beautiful story, I do not take away from it. But Jesus came, as the Bible says in Galatians chapter 4 verse 5, to redeem them that were under the law.
You see, under the law, I'm just going to tell you, I've broken the law. Thou shalt not steal. Oops. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Thou shalt not kill. Hallelujah, finally one I've not broke. But Jesus said, if you have anger in your heart towards your brother, in spirit, you've broken the law. Under the law, I want you to know something. Condemned. I'm condemned, I'm wrong, I'm a sinner. But because of Christmas, the Bible says that Jesus came to redeem them that were under the law. And it concludes like this, that we might receive the adoption of sons. You know something wonderful? When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, as Savior. Not only do we get forgiveness of sin and eternal life through faith in Christ Jesus, you know what we get? We get declared the children of the Most High God. Hey, I'm so thankful that I've been adopted into the family. I'm a child of the King. I'm cared for and loved. by the very Jesus that was born in Bethlehem's manger more than 2,000 years ago.
And I'm so thankful that in the fullness of time, God sent forth his son, made of a woman, under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. You know what the greatest gift ever given was? Jesus. Do you know that it's possible that this Christmas, Christmas 2024, that you could receive the gift of eternal life by putting your trust in Jesus this Christmas.
How, preacher? Do you know that you're a sinner? Do you know that Jesus died on the cross for your sins? And the Bible says, whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. I wonder if today you're here and you need Jesus, if you might pray and ask Jesus to be your savior.
We'll be here, this evening's not concluded completely. You can stay as long as you'd like, eat, visit, but I want you to know something. If you're here and you'd like to talk to me about being saved, oh, I would love the opportunity to point you to Jesus. the reason we celebrate Christmas.
