Welcome to Our Weekly Standards,
a podcast of Heritage Presbyterian Church in New Braunfels, Texas.
This podcast is designed to aid your study and memorization of
the Reformed catechisms and confessions, and deepen your knowledge, build
your faith, and increase your zeal in your walk with God. Our
catechism question of the week is from Westminster Shorter Catechism,
question and answer 28. Wherein consisteth Christ's exaltation? Answer, Christ's exaltation consisteth
in his rising again from the dead on the third day, in ascending
up into heaven, in sitting at the right hand of God the Father,
and in coming again to judge the world at the last day. Our
Bible memorization verse of the week comes from 1 Corinthians
15, verses 3 and 4. For I delivered to you, first
of all, that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that
he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. We find the
truth of this catechism answer elsewhere in Scripture in the
following verses. Psalm 68, verse 18. You have ascended on high. You
have led captivity captive. You have received gifts among
men, even from the rebellious, that the Lord God might dwell
there. Acts 1 verse 11, who also said,
Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same
Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will so come in like
manner as you saw him go into heaven. Ephesians 4 verse 8,
Therefore he says, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive,
and gave gifts to men. Psalm 110 verse 1, The LORD said
to my LORD, Sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies your
footstool. Acts 2 verses 33-35, Therefore, being exalted to the
right hand of God, and having received from the Father the
promise of the Holy Spirit, he poured out this which you now
see and hear. For David did not ascend into
the heavens, but he says himself, the Lord said to my Lord, sit
at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool.
Hebrews 1 verse 3. who being the brightness of his
glory and the express image of his person, and upholding all
things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged
our sins, sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high. Matthew 16, verse 27. For the
son of man will come in the glory of his father with his angels,
and then he will reward each according to his works. Acts
17 verse 31, because he has appointed a day on which he will judge
the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained.
He has given assurance of this to all by raising him from the
dead. Well, amen. Praise God for these
wonderful truths from his word. Join me again next time as we
continue our weekly standards. Have a great day.
