Sacred Space in Promise: The Decline and Demise of David's Kingdom, Part 2

This sermon completes the examination of the decline and destruction of the Israelite theocracy - in particular, the southern sub-kingdom of Judah. After David's kingdom was split under Rehoboam, David's house and throne continued in the southern kingdom only in relation to the two tribes of Judah and Benjamin. Unlike Israel in the north, the southern kingdom saw periods of reform and revival; nevertheless, the sword that the Lord had brought upon David's house extended to Judah as well as Israel, and Judah followed the same general pattern as its sister kingdom in the north: advancing idolatry and apostasy culminating with destruction, desolation and captivity. With the fall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C., Yahweh's sword of judgment had finally completed its work upon David's house and kingdom.
