This is the Generations radio broadcast. My name is Kevin Swanson. I'm a homeschool father of five raising our kids out here in the eastern plains of Colorado and intending to pass on the faith to the next generation, which is the byline for the Generations radio ministry. Bill Jack in studio with me today.
We certainly are living in the age of apostasy in which people are increasingly abandoning a biblical perspective and the biblical faith. And, therefore, it's important for us to come back to the foundation of God's Word again and again as our basis for truth. And, friends, without it, we are in trouble, especially in this postmodern relativistic age in which, well, pretty much anything goes. And it seems to me that the Christian church is anxiously, in many cases, running after the world, attempting to conform to the world as often and as best as they possibly can. Not just anxiously, eagerly.
Yes, and here's another instance of that, Bill. Now what we do on this program is bring back a biblical perspective on epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics. That is, we want to see that the Word of God establishes what is right and wrong. That is, the Law of God must establish what is right and wrong.
The Law of God has had a bad rap. in evangelicalism in America for the last two to three hundred years. Wait, wait, wait. I think the law of God has had a bad rap since the fall. Yes, since Satan said, yea, hath God said. Yeah, did God really say? But ye shall be as God's, determining good and evil for yourself, which is really the definition of God. God is the ultimate. God is the one. who establishes for us truth and ethics and of course he's established our reality that is we are made by God we have not made ourselves God has made us and we are ethically accountable to God and this is the thing of course that the humanist rejects and therefore the law of God has had a bad rap in this country, especially amongst those churches that are anti-gnomian and those that embrace a New Testament law that will not define good and evil by all 66 books.
Paul says that the Old Testament was given to us as the scriptures to equip the man of God for every good work, and if we are not applying the law of God, if we're not bringing the law of God to bear, then Jesus said we will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven. And there's a guy that we're going to be talking about who's substituted his 19 books for the 66 books of the Bible, evidently.
Yes, and he's not the only one. Those that are rejecting God's laws increasingly affirming incest. homosexuality, and now polyamory. And this is not unusual. The Gnostics and the Marcionites of the first century abandoned the Old Testament and of course much of the New Testament as well, especially the book of Matthew. That was not a book that was particularly liked by the Marcionites and the Gnostics of the first century. Why? Because they were antinomian. They wanted to do whatever they wanted. They wanted to party down. and they incorporated licentiousness that involved, well, you can imagine the sexual decadence that came out of those that would abandon God's laws as the standard.
Well, Jesus said, do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota Not a dot will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven."
Now, Steve Lehrer comes to mind. Steve Lehrer is a Westminster Theological Seminary graduate. He went to Westminster West. Steve Lair wrote a book recently in which he said, we need to get our initial shivers and our yuck, ick, disgusting first reactions out of the way. In the new covenant scriptures, no mention is made of the impropriety of marrying one's own sister. Incest. You got to get over the yuck factor here. Come on. It's it's about incest. We're living in the new covenant now. It's all about love. It's all about loving your brother and loving your sister. And nobody asked, what do you mean by love? And how do you know it's love? Exactly. Unless you define it by the commandments of God.
Although the practice is illegal in many countries. Again, this is Steve Lehrer. Although the practice of incest is illegal in many countries, which makes it sinful for Christians living in those countries to do because of Romans 13. It seems that if you and your sister are both believers and you live in a country that deems marriage between siblings to be a lawful practice, then your marriage would be holy in God's sight.
Okay, again, friends, these are the Gnostics. These are the Marcionites of the present day. And again, they're taking what they've learned in their evangelical churches to the umpteenth degree. That is the laws of God to be ignored. We're not to bring out the laws of God. That's legalism. That's legalism. We wouldn't want to bring in the laws of God. We wouldn't want to love Him and keep His commandments. That would be legalism.
Again, my friends, legalism is salvation by the merit of works, which is something we reject, of course. But as God saves us by His grace, He saves us unto good works, for we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, and then we become those that love Jesus, that believe in Jesus and keep His commandments. And that is what defines the believer in Revelation 14 verse 12, especially during these end times in which there is much pressure. to weaken on the commandments of God from the world around us, from the beasts and the antichrists and all of the worldly influences pressing on the Steve Lerers of the world to join the side of the beast. Well, there's still those that are keeping the faith of Christ and the commandments of God. Yes, even to the end of the age,
Well, there's another representative, this time not of the Westminster crowd, but... He's a Baptist pastor, received his MDiv from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. We're not saying that these guys are still aligned with Westminster Theological Seminary or with the Southern Baptist Convention or the Southern Baptist Seminary, but here another seminary grad from the Southern Baptists, Dr. Jeff Hood, is affirming polyamory.
Now, he's the author of 19 books, and his book in 2016, The Courage to be Queer, was named the third best religion book of the year at the Independent Publishers Book Awards. But he's affirming, now polyamory. Yes, and I don't even want to describe what this is. This is just the orgies. This is all-out sexual orgy. This is the sort of thing that the Reverend Dr. Jeff Hood is affirming, and there's an interview online I encourage you not to read. Yeah, he was asking, you know, what brought you this? He said, I'm saying that the polyamorous God saved my soul. I once was blind, but now I see. This is absurdity. Wrong God. Yeah. Gnostic God. Yeah. Marcion's God. Okay, friends, this is the kind of thing that's happening in the radical departure from the Christian faith in the Western world.
Again, friends, instances in which these theologians that graduate, this guy from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2009, These seminary grads are going haywire. Friends, this is way off the tracks. And that's what an antinomian theology is going to do. That's where it's going to take you. And that's what we've seen in just the last 10 years.
We are out of control unless we come back to the laws of God as the standard for ethics and those who are embarrassed to discuss the laws of God from Leviticus. Those that do not want the persecution from the world because they have stood on God's laws will eventually join the other side. That's why it's so important to receive persecution. We receive persecution for standing on the commandments of God as conveyed to us in Old and New Testament. Yeah, we've received a fair amount of persecution for it.
But friends, this is not the time to join hands with the world and establish friendship with the world. Those who are the friends of the world are the enemies of God. And that, my friends, is not a place you want to be. Be back with more in just a moment on The Generation's Broadcast.
It's hard to imagine Christian pastors going to jail for their faith, and it's just as hard to imagine Christian businessmen fined $135,000 for not baking a cake in celebration of a homosexual wedding. It's hard to imagine America turning into a communist state that persecutes Christians and rewards the most aberrant. Will Christians just let it happen? Should Christians just let it happen? These are important questions, my friends.
This is Kevin Swanson, and I wrote the book on freedom because I wanted to build a case for freedom. A biblical case. A historical case. And let me tell you, the history of freedom is the most inspiring story you'll ever read. Have you heard the story of the Magna Carta? Bannockburn, Leiden, and William the Silent? The American Pilgrims at the Battle for Kings Mountain? How will we fight for freedom in this generation and the next? Well, tell the story first. The story of freedom. Let's leave a legacy for freedom for our children and our grandchildren.
Get a copy of the new book, Freedom for Each of Your Children and Grandchildren, at generations.org. That's generations.org. And we are back on the Generations Radio broadcast. Kevin Swanson, your host, with you. Bill Jack in studio with me from Worldview Academy. And we have had listeners who have written into the program and asking us what we think about the Nashville Statement concerning homosexuality and homosexual marriage. And I have put off a response to this for about four weeks, but now I'd like to dedicate the rest of this program to analyzing the Nashville Statement.
Now, war horn media, Tim Bailey and the crew, have developed a fortified statement in relation to the Nashville Statement. And as we develop these statements, especially as evangelicals, we need to be careful that we're not giving way to the whimpification of the gospel, the breakdown of the gospel, the squishification of the Word of God, the squishification of the issue in order to comport with the zeitgeist, that is the spirit of the age. Let's be ever so careful, friends. Let's be careful with these statements. Right now is not the time. This is not the time for the wimpification of the gospel, especially as these worldviews that have destroyed sexuality and destroyed the family have raked its claws across our entire social system. As the church come out from among them, be separate, saith the Lord. Come back to the word of God.
Two things right off the bat. As I looked at the statement, there are some verses they relate to the statement on the website, but they do not include biblical reference in the statement itself. And Bill, that's a problem. From my perspective, that's a problem. They needed to include both the statement of the Word of God and I think also the historical statements of those who have written on these issues over the last 2,000 years as representatives of the Christian church. And that's one reason why we've produced the Keep the Faith on Sexuality volume, to be sure that people understand a biblical perspective on issues like homosexuality, masturbation, and other things.
let's be sure oh let's be sure that we have a biblical perspective on these sins and also something of a historical christian position on these things so i think that's my first comment there's there are some good solid statements contained in the nashville statement on homosexuality bill Article 1, we affirm that God has designed marriage to be a covenantal, sexual, procreative, lifelong union of one man, one woman, a husband and wife, and is meant to signify the covenant love between Christ and His Bride, the Church. That's really good. So that's really good. Yeah, I mean, you don't want to argue with that. I'm not going to make any adjustment to that. I don't think the guys from Warhorn Media did any adjustment to that either. We deny that God has designed marriage to be a homosexual, polygamous, or polyamorous relationship. We also deny that marriage is a mere human contract rather than a covenant made before God. All right, so that's Article 1. That's an example.
Also, Article 6 refers to hermaphrodites. We affirm that those born with a physical disorder of sex development are created in the image of God and have dignity and worth equal to all other image bearers. They are acknowledged by our Lord Jesus in His words about eunuchs who are born that way from their mother's womb. So I'm thankful that they included a verse there within the article itself. And so there's some really good elements. I think that the article on hermaphrodites is helpful, is good. Article 7 is pretty strong. We affirm that self-conception as male or female should be defined by God's holy purpose in creation and redemption as revealed in scripture. We deny that adopting a homosexual or transgender self-conception is consistent with God's holy purpose in creation and redemption. So far, so good.
But then we hit Article 8, and Bill, this is weak. This is weak. This is where it gets weak. We affirm that people who experience sexual attraction for the same sex may live a rich and fruitful life pleasing to God through faith in Jesus Christ as they, like all Christians, walk in purity of life. And we deny that sexual attraction for the same sex is part of the natural goodness of God's original creation or that it puts a person outside the hope of the gospel. Now, here what they do is they distinguish between a sin and an evil. And they place homosexual sexual attraction under the category of an evil, much like debt or death or divorce. See, that's where they're putting it. It was not part of God's original goodness in His creation. But they're distinguishing between sin and evil when it comes to the issue of same-sex sinful attractions, same-sex sexual attractions.
Now again, they're not calling a person oriented towards it. They're not using the words sexual orientation. They're using the word sexual attraction. So they're not going as far as sexual orientation in that they are placing a person in a sexual orientation and saying there's no hope for redemption for that person. However, they are allowing for sexual attraction.
We affirm that people who experience sexual attraction for the same sex may live a rich and fruitful life pleasing to God through faith in Jesus Christ. Now there's a squishiness about this. Sexual attraction to the same sex. It's a sexual desire for the same sex. The attraction is a desire, a sexual form of attraction to that person.
Now, Bill, if I was to say that I have a sexual attraction to my neighbor's wife, Mary Jones, okay? I'm married to Brenda, but I was just to tell you, you know, I've got this sexual attraction to my neighbor's wives. You'd be concerned. I'd be a little more than concerned. I think I'd call you to repent. Yeah. Yeah. I'd say flee from lust. You'd refer to that as a sin. Yeah. If I was not just an evil, but a sin. If I was sexually attracted to my sister, or a sister in Christ, say, that's wrong. That's just wrong, isn't it? That is correct. That should be obvious.
Now, you know, there are some who say every red-blooded American male is going to have sexual attraction to a beautiful woman walking down the street. Well, that's just saying every sinful American male is going to sexually lust after women. That's all that's saying. That's not adding anything to the conversation. That's not justifying the sin. It shouldn't be justifying the sin. Now, they do attempt to justify the sin, but they shouldn't try to justify the sin. That's what we call a BFO, a blinding flash of the obvious. Yeah. We live in a sinful world and that's... But it's still wrong. The fact that it's normative doesn't mean that it's right. Correct. And I think that's what's happening here is people are trying to say it's normative that heterosexual males are sexually attracted to other women running around. It's not. It's wrong. It's wrong. The only person you should be sexually attracted to is your own wife.
No. So your objection to the Article 8 is that it seems to say that this is normal. That this is normal. That's right. That one can be attracted sexually to someone of the same sex and still live this rich and fruitful life, pleasing to God through faith in Christ Jesus. and walk in purity of life.
Let me read the article one more time. We affirm that people who experience sexual attraction for the same sex may live a rich and fruitful life pleasing to God through faith in Jesus Christ.
Now, the Warhorn Media guys, they came up with a revised article 8 in which they wrote, we deny that people who experience sexual attractions for the same sex can't, without repenting of those attractions, live a rich and fruitful life pleasing to God and walk in purity of life. We also deny that sexual attraction for the same sex is part of the natural goodness of God's original creation. We affirm that repentance from these sinful attractions is a grace of the Holy Spirit offered to all sinners, and that faith and repentance place a person inside the hope of the gospel. Now, do you see how that's different than the statement created in Nashville? It's a huge difference, my friends. Why? Because it's addressing the sin, the lust, and the desire that lurks in the human heart, whether it be homosexual or heterosexual. It comes face-to-face with a problem, with a root problem. and presents faith and repentance as the means whereby God's grace is brought to bear in the salvation of that soul.
And friends, again, the fact that they leave repentance out of the mix in Article 8 is a problem. It's a huge problem. Bill, I think it's an indication that the gospel is no longer quite the power of God unto salvation, that is, to save these people from the uttermost. such that we could say that they used to have sexual desires for the same sex. They used to be effeminate. They used to be fornicators. Such were some of you, but you are cleansed, you are sanctified, you are justified by the grace of God.
1 Corinthians 6, the true church in Corinth, the true Christian church, We'll use the words used to be. They used to be those who were sexually attracted, but now less and less by the power of the Spirit of God working the attraction itself, the lust itself, the desire itself. The drawing in to a sexual relationship with a group of people to which God has said, no way, no way, no way, is less and less a part of the life of those who have repented and come to Christ in faith.
Our sexualized society takes a lot of things for granted. The assumption is there are a lot of people who are habitually lustful, whether it be heterosexuals or homosexuals. Therefore, it must be something of a normative life, even amongst those who attend the Christian church. And friends, that's a lie. It's just a lie. The Word of God tells us to come out from among them and be separate, saith the Lord. Also, the immodesty of a society with a sensual display of one's body by certain clothing designs is incredibly common today. And so, the assumption is if sexual attraction, if sexual desire, sexual lust is ubiquitous in society, it must be okay.
Bill, I think as we assess what's going on in terms of the Christian church and its perspectives of homosexuality, I think there are four categories of views. that are approved of by those Christian writers or Christian theologians or Christian pastors who are compromising on this issue. Now, there are those who are maintaining a strong perspective against the sin of same-sex sexual lust. There are those who are maintaining a strong position against those who identify themselves as great gay Christians. There are those who are still calling But men and women who are stuck in their heterosexual lust and their homosexual lust to repentance, but there are also four categories of views that are approved of by Christian writers. And here they are.
The first category of those that we've been speaking of who admit that sexual attraction to those with whom we are not married is okay. Same-sex attraction, incestuous attraction, not necessarily a sin or a sin that needs to be repented of. So that's that category. Then there are those who speak of homosexual orientation. They call themselves gay Christians, but celibate. And they don't believe that's anything to be repentant of. They don't see that that's something that needs to be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. If we confess our sins of homosexual attraction or homosexual orientation, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. As 1 Corinthians 6, 9 and following says, you know, such were some of you, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. So stop doing these things, basically, is what he's saying.
Right. There are those who admit that sexual attraction to those whom we're not married is okay. That's just a sexual attraction, so it's no more than that. Then there are those who speak of homosexual orientation, and then there are those who speak of homosexual sex is okay as long as it's done within the confines of marriage as approved of by the Supreme Court of the United States, because they have rewritten the laws of God. Well, they've declared themselves to be God. Yes. And then finally, there's a fourth category, which we just mentioned on the earlier segment of this program, and that is those who say, it's all good, baby. Polyamory, you name it, it's all good. In marriage, out of marriage, it's all good. So again, my friends... Just as long as it's done in the name of love. Yeah.
Now what that means, nobody knows. Well, it reminds me of the Kipling line from the Gods of the Copybook headings in which the man began by loving his neighbor. and ended by loving his wife. It began by loving his neighbors and ended by loving his neighbor's wife.
All right, my friends. Well, that wraps up this edition of the Generations radio broadcast. I encourage you to come to the Word of God as a standard. for what is right and wrong. God introduces the standard. God brings in the standard. And God brings in the standard for our salvation, which can only come by His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We come to Him by faith and receive His salvation because He died on that cross for for our sins, for all of these sinful attractions, for all of these autonomous urges in the human mind that yes has even come to the point at which is realigned our physiological condition.
But friends, it is the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses us, that makes us new, that gives us life and life more abundantly, that sends our perspectives in a different direction, that realigns everything about us, even our sexual condition, our sexual desires. It's the word of God that needs to be preached and brought to bear. Sinners need to come to repentance and faith in Christ and serve the living Christ. And at that point, we love the Lord. We keep his commandments. And this is what constitutes the Christian. This is what describes the Christian.
Well, you've been listening to the Generations Radio broadcast. I'd encourage you to our little book, Keep the Faith on Sexuality. It's a little hardback book in which we summarize, very briefly, very concisely, a biblical perspective on sexuality and homosexuality, abortion, and the other salient sins of the day. This little book is available at our website kevinswanson.com or generations.org. This is Kevin Swanson inviting you back again next time as we continue to lay down a vision for the next generation. It's Tuesday, October 10th, A.D. 2017. This is The World View in 5 Minutes. I'm Adam McManus.
Our God is a consuming fire, and his wildfires are burning around Santa Rosa, California. So far, they've destroyed at least 1,500 structures, including a Kmart and a pizza restaurant. Thus far, 44,000 acres have been consumed in this fire, 20,000 people have been evacuated, and Governor Jerry Brown has issued an emergency proclamation affecting three counties.
Meanwhile, Governor Brown also signed a bill that would levy a $1,000 fine and a year in jail against anyone who knowingly uses the wrong pronoun to address a man who wants to play the part of a woman, or vice versa. San Francisco's Democratic State Senator Scott Weiner, who proposed Senate Bill 219, told news reporters, quote, everyone is entitled to their religious view, but when you enter the public space, when you are running an institution, you are in a workplace, you are in a civil setting, and you have to follow the law, unquote.
Will persecution come to thousands of Christians across America who refuse to celebrate homosexual faux weddings and submit to using transgendered newspeak? The Supreme Court of the United States has announced it will hear Jack Phillips, the Denver Bakers case, on December 5. Phillips has refused to bake cakes for homosexual faux weddings.
As I reported yesterday, Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein was fired by his own company for breaking the Seventh Commandment with a number of women who have recently raised accusations against him. Hollywood has a record of advocating for various forms of sexual sin. In a 2012 awards acceptance speech, actress Meryl Streep referred to Weinstein as, quote, God, unquote, to the delight and laughter of her audience. I just want to thank my agent, Kevin Uvain, and God, Harvey Weinstein. Now, other actresses are referring to Weinstein as a, quote, monster, unquote.
About 2,000 years ago, on a certain day, a wicked man named Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, the voice of a God and not of a man. Then, immediately, an angel of the Lord struck him. because he did not give glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died." Acts 12, 21-23.
Senator Bob Corker, the retiring Republican U.S. Senator from Tennessee, took aim at President Donald Trump in a recorded interview with the New York Times, which made news yesterday. Sometimes I feel like he's on a reality show of some kind. He's talking about these big foreign policy issues and he doesn't realize that we could be heading towards World War III with the kind of comments that he's making.
Former White House strategist Steve Bannon had this to say in reaction on Sean Hannity's Fox News show. Senator Corker is an absolute disgrace. If Bob Corker has any honor, any decency, he should resign immediately. He should not let those words stand.
Thousands of Christian women gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. yesterday to seek God's mercy for our sins of abortion and racism. Representatives from Concerned Women for America and other pro-life activists spoke. The cries went up to, quote, protect human life, unquote. The women also challenged the crowd to take Jesus into every area of life, including politics and media. They declared Jesus as Lord over Washington, D.C. and all 50 states and called for a revival in the universities like that which Timothy Dwight brought to Yale in the 1820s. As we approach the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, a new Reformation society called Fellowship for International Reformation and Evangelism has issued another 95 theses for 2017.
The first thesis copied Luther's, the whole life of a believer must be one of repentance. The new theses called for, quote, Christians to tremble before God's laws, unquote. They condemned theological seminaries that teach theistic evolution and called for church leaders to speak loudly against homosexual marriage, secular humanist education, abortion, and ungodly forms of entertainment.
Thesis 78 reads, quote, Many mainline denominations have been infiltrated by secular humanists, who have gutted the churches of the biblical gospel and produced generations of spineless evangelifish. Many churches are filled with pseudo-saved, semi-saved, half-saved, unsaved pew warmers who have never been truly converted, nor have they come into a real relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ."
A 31-year-old Colorado man died of a rattlesnake bite while hiking in Jefferson County on Saturday. According to the Steamboat Today report, it took 22 minutes for first responders to reach him, but in God's providence, Daniel Hose did not survive.
Ecclesiastes 9.12 says, For man does not know his time, like fish that are taken in an evil net, and like birds that are caught in a snare. So the children of man are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them. What kind of worldview do your children get? The vast majority of teens from Christian families are abandoning a biblical worldview, according to the Barna Group. Sadly, many parents do not realize that the curriculum they have chosen for their children actually conveys the wrong worldview of history, science, life's purpose, and truth.

Are Homosexual and Incestuous Attractions Sin? - The Nashville Statement Too Weak
Those rejecting God’s law are now providing defenses for polyamory and incest. Evangelicals have come together to make a statement on homosexual marriage and attraction. We take a close look at the Nashville Statement that stops short of calling homosexual attraction a sin. We break down the compromising views on homosexuality, which for some reason gets more of a break than other sins in our society today.
