When it comes to church government, the one concern over all else is that Jesus is Lord over His church (Col 1:18). He grants a variety of gifts for the edification of the church (Rm 12; 1 Cor 12), specifically apostles, prophets, evangelists, and shepherds and teachers (Eph 4:11). As such, it‚Äôs important to follow what His apostles and prophets have said in regard to the operation of church. Specifically, in 1 Timothy 3:1‚Äď12, we see two offices for the church: elders and deacons. The term elder is synonymous with pastor or overseer, and we believe we should have multiple elders of equal standing who are biblically qualified to direct the matters of the church. The term deacon is that of service, and elders appoint biblically qualified deacons for the practical care of the church. All we do must be carefully and prayerfully executed for the glory of God.
