If Infant Baptism, Why Not Infant Communion?
Series Fellowship Meeting
Statement of the question.
Larger Catechism Q.177. Paedocommunionist assumptions.OT fellowship meals in general do not establish paedocommunion.
Variation in participation.The passover argument.
Assumption of infant/child passover not proven. Arguments against this
assumption.
Even if children took passover, reasons why this does not necessitate
paedocommunion.Reasons why denial of the Lord's Supper to children is consistent with
their covenant status.
OT feasts; women in OT church; some delay before passover must be
acknowledged; not required at
Jerusalem passover; passive/active comparison with baptism. Denial not
based on presumptive unregeneration but distinction between adult/child membership. 1 Cor 11 requirement universal.
(Ommitted to acknowledge help from 'Children at the Lord's Table' by
C.P.Venema esp. on point 2 - DS).
