The Kingdom of Darkness Must Surely Fall, Part 3

52

As we come to the final verses of the prophesy of Nahum, there are certain matters which come into clearer focus: 1) The LORD is slow to anger, but He is also great in power. That power is shown not only in the majesty in creation, but also in the LORD's zeal to defend His name and covenant people. 2) The LORD's zeal includes and even requires that He judge and punish those who seek to defy Him and especially if they strive to destroy His kingdom and His people redeemed by the blood of Christ. 3) The LORD executes His judgment in His own time (not ours) and if He chooses to judge now, the temporal judgment is a type, precursor, and preview to the ultimate and eternal punishment upon those who will not heed the summons to repent. 4) The ancient enemy known as the Assyrian Empire was judged and that judgment is one such type. They sought the subjection of the people of God or their destruction. Our great enemy continues to seek our subjection and destruction. 5) The deliverance of Judah from the Assyrians is like our deliverance. The LORD used an unexpected means to bring down this Kingdom of Darkness and has delivered us by the incarnation, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By His mighty hand He has delivered us and destroyed the schemes of the enemy. – Pastor Schlegel
