Jesus did many, many miracles; however, this is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels. We need a Shepherd, without one we will end up eaten by the wolves. The disciples had been so busy that they did not have time to eat. When they went to a remote place to rest, they found even more people. Often, when God is about to do something miraculous, He asks people what they have. God takes what we have and turns it into something miraculous when we obey Him. That applies to money, talents, gifts, etc. God's miracles happen over and over in the context of obedience. The disciples and people started with scarcity and ended with a surplus. That is what happens when we obey God. God will meet our needs and beyond. Many people refuse to do what God says because they believe it is impossible. It is impossible apart from God, not impossible with God. We are to be holy because God is holy, that can only be done with God. When our need is greater than what we have, do we give complaints or do we give thanks? God puts us in situations where the need exceeds the supply so that we realize we are not supposed to live apart from Him. When we see impossibilities, God sees opportunities to show His glory.
