One of the greatest blessings of the Christian life, in this life, is assurance. What I mean by assurance is that you know for sure that your sins are forgiven and you are God's child and you are going to heaven when you die. And you know it now. Can you really be sure? Hebrews 6:9-12 says yes! This text is a part of a larger context (5:11-6:12) that provides one the New Testament's sternest warnings to church goers threatening to turn away from the gospel. The warnings are so dire that they can easily rattle the confidence of even the faithful. So the writer stops to assure God's beloved with a word of comfort (and a final note of exhortation): i.) comfort and encouragement for God's beloved (vv. 9-10) and ii.) final exhortation (and hope) for everyone else (vv. 11-12).
