Joseph is often compared to the Lord Jesus, and yet there are plenty of differences between them, especially as it relates to their respective relationships to their fathers.
Joseph was alienated from his father Jacob by his wicked brethren, and so Jacob was completely unaware of Joseph's life and great work of rescue until near the end.
But our Lord Jesus and His Father were in continual communion in prayer and by the scriptures. Christ obeyed His Father perfectly, and His Father was well pleased in His dear Son.
When Joseph finally revealed himself to his brothers, he urged them to bring Jacob down to Egypt with all their family and possessions, so Joseph could deliver them from the famine.
Jacob would shortly learn that his favorite son Joseph was not dead, but was reigning over Egypt and the architect of the great famine relief project.
No doubt Joseph knew that Jacob could scarcely believe it when he was told, and so we come to this poignant request by Joseph to his brothers:
"Ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and all that ye have seen."
How this plea by Joseph ought to rend our hearts with joy for our Redeemer!
This short statement summarizes the stark differences between Joseph and Jesus: Jesus' Father always knew of the Glory of His Son! Unlike Jacob, God the Father never had to be told of the glory of Christ!
He knew of it from eternity past. God knew of Christ's glory in His humanity, because the Father was careful to give that very glory to Him all along the way.
Christ and His Father were always complacent in Their mutual and eternal love for each other.
The Father always knew of the Glory of His Son!
