Matthew 17:20 “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
This verse is one of the most misunderstood, misapplied, and abused passages in scripture. It is often used to justify a “name it and claim it” theology. If you have enough faith you can do anything. You can cast out demons. You can heal any sickness. Accomplish any goal. Have health and wealth. Nothing is impossible, if you have enough faith. And if by chance you don't get what you want, it is your own fault - because you didn't have enough faith. To get what you want you have to show great faith - a faith which is usually evidenced by sending a “seed” gift to the preacher peddling this theology.
This “name it and claim it theology” is the exact opposite of what is taught in this passage. So what is mountain moving faith?
