Man before the face of a holy God is a sinner, condemned and under His holy wrath. What grounds does God have to accept sinners into his presence? Forgiveness requires the work of a divine human mediator. Jesus the Christ meets our need as the perfect Savior. He took on human flesh in order to die as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of all whom the Father has given him. Jesus sacrifice is perfect, complete and of infinite worth. The question is what is God's design, his purpose in the death of his unique Son. Here scripture is very clear- he made an intentional atonement that is definite in its design and particular in its application. He redeemed all whom the Father had chosen and given to him. Through his suffering their punishment God can be both just and the justifer.
